The location of this mid-price hotel couldn't be better -- a couple of hundred meters from Hagia Sophia. But we were dismayed to find the room uncomfortably dark, with only two low-wattage bedside lights providing illumination. The tapwater is clearly labeled as unsafe. Under such circumstances, one would expect a drinking water dispenser or at least a couple of one-liter...

You can't find a better located hotel in all of Istanbul -- right across the street from the Basilica Cistern, several hundred feet from Hagia Sophia, and within a block or two of at least 100 restaurants. The views of Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, and the Golden Horn from the hotel's rooftop restaurant, where we had breakfast every morning,...

Hagia Sofia and Blue Mosque give a magical view from the balcony. We found the staff very helpful and welcoming. I also loved the Victorian styled interior although the rooms were small. They...

Lovely location; our room looked toward the Blue Mosque, and although it was a rainy week, we got some terrific photos out the windows. Helpful, friendly staff; clean, comfortable room; only steps from an ATM; close to Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque, the bazaars, and the bus stop for the off-on bus was just down the block. Very nice.

Staying in Sultanahmet

Neighbourhood Profile
Sultanahmet
With so many unmissable attractions within a mere stroll of each other – and all set around the site of an ancient Byzantine hippodrome – Sultanahmet is an overwhelmingly popular tourist destination, and a prime location for visitors to be wowed on a truly epic scale. Beyond the wonders of the Blue Mosque, the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and more, this relatively small area of Istanbul somehow manages to retain an air of peace and calm. It offers visitors a significantly less celebrated but nonetheless pleasant network of quaint lanes and side streets, majestic panoramas of the Bosphorus, and an impressive assortment of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes.
