The ambiance of the hotel was perfect. Spectacular view. It feels like the Bosphorus is in your room, in your bed! You can see the sun, the sea, the bridge also when taking a shower. We thought the Fireplace in the room is also very romantic. Bed is very comfortable, all staff very very kind. The dinner is good, ok.

I stayed two nights at this lovely hotel on a business visit to Istanbul. The hotel is situated on the Asian side of the city with great views of the Bosporus. My room was comfortable with all the necessary amenities. The staff were most helpful and polite, and the breakfast was fine. I will be staying there again on my...

We have stayed at Sumahan last weekend . It was a birthday treat for me and I have enjoyed every minute of it. It is a small, cosy and very romantic hotel. The rooms are perfectly equiped with the amazing view of Bosphorus. All the rooms have a built in fireplace. It is lovely to just sit and daydream. The...

Here is a little boutique hotel just by the Bosphorus straits tucked in a small district of Istanbul called Çengelköy. In my opinion, ıncluding the most luxurious hotels in Istanbul, this is the best in the city. You will see what I mean as soon as you enter the minimalist reception area and greeted by the friendly crew. You will...

The rooms are wonderful, location a bit remote. Great place to relax. Had fun just watching the boats go by. Perfect for 2 nights. Would not stay much longer if you are one to be on the go. Breakfast was delicious.

I am so glad we chose to stay at the Sumahan on the Water, as it is the most fabulous hotel. Unbelievably amazing setting that is right on the Bosphorus so you get an incredible view of the sea with all the boats passing by, and the Martyrs' Bridge which is really close. Being on the Asian side, you also...

This is my first visit for over a year and I am pleased to see that things have only gotten better. The rooms have a view that few on Earth can boast. I love the the intimate cafe that gives a nearly personal view of the European side of the strait. The food is great, particularly the steak salad! I...

Staying in Uskudar

Neighbourhood Profile
Uskudar
Home to more than half a million residents, Uskudar on the Asian side of the Bosphorus is one of Istanbul’s most densely populated neighbourhoods. Once a Greek colony, later a haven for people from across the Mediterranean and the Middle East, this gateway to Asia has been an active and diverse hub for eons. Still, visitors to Uskudar are often more overcome by its myriad treasures than by its many thousand residents. And with fairytale settings such as the “Maiden’s Tower” as well as grand examples of Ottoman Era architecture, plenty of parks, a gorgeous and lengthy coastline, and some of Turkey’s holiest sites, there’s no end to the sightseeing possibilities. Easily reached from the city’s European shores via a steady network of ferries, time spent in Uskudar reveals a “real life” Istanbul that many who experience find extremely fascinating.
