We travelled to several countries in Europe for 40 days and stayed in several hotels ( jan. 5 to Feb. 11, 2016) starting from Hamburg in Germany, to Istanbul in Turkey, to Athens in Greece, to Malta and then to London, to France which included hotels in Paris, and Monaco. The best hotel experience we had had was from Sumahan...

We stayed here for three nights in January 2016 on our second visit to Istanbul. This is a remarkable hotel, with views over the Bosporus, excellent service, and great amenities that is an excellent choice for someone seeking an alternative to staying in the middle of the city. The hotel is a short walk from a nice neighborhood with shops...

This hotel offers a different atmosphere than the rest of Istanbul. It is beatifully designed and has a strong a character. But away from the hectic dynamisim of Istanbul. Customers are mostly wealthy Turks or old white Anglos. View is stunning, rooms are as what you pay. But if you are coming to Istanbul first time and if you are...

Sumahan on the Water is one of those hotels that feels like a oasis of calm - you can't relaxing once the staff escort you through the door and into a surprisingly comfortable reception area with a wonderful view of the Bosphorus. We arrived just as a snowstorm was blasting the city but the dramatic change in the weather only...

We stayed at Sumahan on the Water in 2015 and LOVED everything about it. What a magical place! As people who travel a lot we can say without hesitation that this is one of our favorite hotels anywhere. Sumahan is beautiful, the location amazing, and the service outstanding. The hotel is very tastefully designed – perhaps not surprising considering that...

I stayed in this hotel only for 1 night. It was a bit expensive for my budget. But it was wonderful. The room was double floor, you have your own hammam and the chimney it was wonderful. when you go out, you fall in love.

Pros: great location, nice village around, beautiful view, silent. Cons: Service is regular, they do their job but no extras, no explanations at arrival; the booking of the shuttle boat was by email, but to inform that it was cancelled for bad weather, instead they tried to call and despite the phone was off, no email was sent. There was...

Great room facing the Bosphorus. Very nice boutique property, stylish furnishings, good location. Can walk to downtown (on the Asian side). Hotel has a small boat that can be used. Nice outdoor lounge on the water.

This hotel is in a stunning location on the Asian side of the Bosphorus. My wife and I stayed two nights here and loved every minute of it, we only wish we had stayed longer. As neither of us had stayed on the Asian side before it was a great contrast to other areas of Istanbul. The only downside to...

Staying in Uskudar

Neighbourhood Profile
Uskudar
Home to more than half a million residents, Uskudar on the Asian side of the Bosphorus is one of Istanbul’s most densely populated neighbourhoods. Once a Greek colony, later a haven for people from across the Mediterranean and the Middle East, this gateway to Asia has been an active and diverse hub for eons. Still, visitors to Uskudar are often more overcome by its myriad treasures than by its many thousand residents. And with fairytale settings such as the “Maiden’s Tower” as well as grand examples of Ottoman Era architecture, plenty of parks, a gorgeous and lengthy coastline, and some of Turkey’s holiest sites, there’s no end to the sightseeing possibilities. Easily reached from the city’s European shores via a steady network of ferries, time spent in Uskudar reveals a “real life” Istanbul that many who experience find extremely fascinating.
