Mount Zion Hotel derives its name from Mount Zion, which is a historic area near the Old City that features in the Bible. The hotel is a tourist class hotel, where prices are moderate. Hotels in Jerusalem are no longer cheap.

I am a repeat visitor to the Mt. Zion Hotel, first because of the warm hospitality and great staff and service (starting from reservations to front desk, cleaning, restaurant and bar staff); and second because of the great location and breathtaking views of the Old City and Mt. Zion. You know you are in Jerusalem! The location is excellent as you can walk into Jerusalem Center, the Old City or closer by the First Station with restaurants, crafts and entertainment as well as the residential neighborhoods of "Ba'aka" and the "German Colony". However, on my recent stay, I finally had a wonderful opportunity to get a better understanding of the history of the Mt. Zion Hotel from the lovely night manager, Tarek Awedah. He took the time to show me what is probably the best kept secret, the Cable Car Museum, located in the Mt. Zion Hotel (and open to the public). You can actually see one of the original cable cars which was from the War of Independence and was a link between Mt. Zion and the Western Section of Jerusalem. The little Museum also tells the history of the hotel building which was first built in 1882 as a hospitable for rare eye diseases. Seeing the old photos of the original building one can really appreciate what makes the Mt. Zion Hotel so special.

Hotel with a great location but quite a bit run down. Rooms leave much to be desired... Sparse, worn furniture, old carpets. Sheets aren't the best. Bathrooms are nice. Housekeeping cleaned up pretty well. Breakfast is plentiful but not as tasty as one might hope. Staff are indifferent, pretty much par for the course for Israel. Fitness center has a few machines and is good enough but it is only open 8 to 6, not conducive to getting a workout before or after the work day. Hotel seems to cater to large tourists groups. There are much better places to stay in Jerusalem for the money.

This is an unusual hotel outside the old city. Unique in that the lobby and entrance are on the 6thfloor which is at street level. It is an older building that fits architecturally in its location. The hotel is clean, the staff personable and the location is good. The rooms are clean although sparsly furnished. Breakfast buffet has a large variety that would satisfy most ethnic requirements (egg station cook needs a bit more experience). My only poor observation here is that the place looks shopworn. Additionally it does not seem as though maintenance takes any pride in its work. Bath fixtures are loose, caulking around sinks and tub is sloppy and the toilet seat either crashes down or hits you in the back. I would sincerely recommend a thorough inspection and general spiff up.

The rooms were okay but could use a better cleaning. The furniture was dated and looked like it should replaced. My wife thought it was cute and in an old Jerusalem style. The sheets were clean but we did notice small holes in the sheets. We both severely disappointed with the quality of the food. The Friday night dinner was 260 NIS per person and looked below the level of cafeteria food. My wife pointed out that the fish looked like someone forgot to wash it before they cooked it. We walked out without tasting anything. We asked for and received a refund for the dinner. Breakfast was included in our reservation on the first day some of the items did not appear fresh on the buffet so we chose the items that looked okay. On Sunday there were birds flying in the dining room. Note this is not an outdoor patio this is indoors. It appeared as if this was the same buffet as Saturday when I say the same buffet I mean the exact same food. the cucumber started looking translucent, the red pepper was dry they cheeses had a hard crust (you know when you slice cheese and forget to put it back in the fridge overnight) I think it may be because it was Sunday and there were very few guests. Most people leave on Saturday night. I don't know for a fact that the food was old I can only give you my impression. without the food I would say it is a 3 star hotel with a wonderful view and a great location

The property was a hospital which has been completely renovated into a beautiful historic hotel with incredible views day and night. Wonderful buffet breakfast and very comfortable rooms.Unusual entry at the top floor of the hotel and all rooms are down as the hotel is built into a hillside. Small but top notch gift shop.

Interesting view down the valley. An historic hotel with somewhat older rooms but we enjoyed the atmosphere of the hotel. Our room had an outside courtyard which was rather pleasant in the evening. The meals were very good. A good two nights spent here.

This hotel is quite an old building and has loads of history associated with it. My room had great views of Jaffa Gate in the old city walls. The bar was rarely attended but he eventually turned up if you asked reception. The food was average and buffet style. The room was OK and everything worked. I would rate it a 3 star establishment. I stayed 6 nights. A nice touch was a gift plate of fruit and cakes for Jewish New Year. The operation of the lift for the Sabbath when Jews cannot operate machinery was interesting. It goes up and down stopping at each floor so you do not have to press a button - curious, but somewhat time consuming if you step into it by accident :).

This hotel was just ok. Clean and simple but I definitely would consider this a 3 star otel for sure. The food was good and staff was nice. The pool looked nice but was closed. The gym was very dated and needs new equiptment.

Stayed five nights. Arranged for a higher level room and didn't get good value. No comfortable seating places in the room. Sparsely furnished. Room was not really clean. Tried four times to get bathroom light changed and never got results. Breakfast buffet was only average quality or less.
