Our group stayed at the Olive Tree Hotel last summer on our trip to Jerusalem and the Holy Land. Since we were getting on and off the bus each day with little or no free time to explore on our own, it was hard to assess how conveniently located the hotel was. For us it was fine because the bus was waiting out in front every morning; but the bus driver might have had other feelings about the location. Certainly the parking lot across the street was completely full of busses and other vehicles.

We had Room #855, which was the 3rd from the last room down a long corridor.
The room had a nice view over the pool on the roof at the hotel next door and an angled view down onto George Street and the parking lot across the street.

The room itself had two twin beds pushed together in European style. Each bed had a white duvet and two pillows and two night stands with goose neck reading lamps. The room also had two easy chairs and a round table, one low chest. There was a large TV on the wall, a mirror, and one (only) luggage rack.

The bed(s) were too soft resulting in two sore backs each morning. My Wife was particularly affected by this, while it was less obvious for me.

The room a refrigerator and safe in the wardrobe closet; and there was a coffee urn and fixings in the room (but we didn't care for the taste of the decaf coffee which we normally drink).

There were several extra electrical outlets in the room for chargers but one was inoperative. The AC thermostat dial seemed to be miscalibrated and it needed to be turned all the way to maximum down to be comfortable.

The bathroom was a bit on the smallish size, but was fine and acceptable. There was a tub/shower combo with a broken bracket for the flexible wand shower head. The bathroom sink counter was large enough for two person's worth of toiletries. The hotel provided a good supply of toiletries but no bar soap. They did have face cloths. The toilet paper holder was very inconveniently located for normal people (contortionists might not mind the placement!).

The hotel had three elevators, but they were slow, and crowded at times.

Dinner in the restaurant was very good, but we felt that the breakfast buffet was only so-so.

I have often shared that this is my favorite hotel in the world. The Olive Tree combines great location in one of the most fascinating cities of the world with the old world charm of Jerusalem. My wife and I have led a number of groups that stayed at the Olive Tree. It is the perfect place to feel safe and also be within walking or taxi distance of the Old City, the Jerusalem Market, the Light Rail, and many other great attractions. There are good shops in the hotel or adjacent. The food is excellent, really wonderful. The staff is attentive and friendly. The rooms vary in size but are nicely appointed and ideal for a trip focused on study and exploration. There are great amenities available such as exercise room and meeting rooms. I highly recommend this hotel for those traveling to Jerusalem with a group or as a family.

We had a comfortable 3-night stay at the Olive Tree Hotel as part of an ETS tour. Modern atmosphere with all the expected amenities of a large hotel, including efficient meal service in the dining room. Lively bar area too! Another plus – a free daily 10-minute international call. Helpful front desk - they arranged a shared shuttle pickup for us to the TLV airport (more cost effective than a $100 taxi). The Damascus Gate is within walking distance (about 15 minutes).

My parish recently went on pilgrimage to the Holy Land and spent at least 5 nights in this hotel on a 206 Tour. The hotel is not new. However, our group of 43 was stranded in Jerusalem when Lufthansa went on strike this past week. This hotel could not have been nicer to us. They made it seamless for all of us who needed to to extend our stay as long as necessary, did laundry, and continued to welcome our dwindling group in their buffet-style dining room. For this reason alone I chose to give them a 5 star rating.

The lobby & bar area are pleasant, well decorated areas that are good for meeting friends. A walk down the hallways to the rooms , however, reveal walls that are in need of paint and carpet that needs replaced. The rooms are small. Two people and four suitcases crowd the room. The bathroom is tiny with a hair dryer the likes of which my mother used in 1979. The food is good in the always busy dining room, but it is difficult to find a waiter who is not surly. The location of the hotel is great and within walking distance of many attractions.
Overall - A mixed bag.

We stayed several nights as part of a package tour group. The Olive Tree is well equipped for handling group reservations, bus loading, meals, etc. Our room was comfortable with European style beds (two singles pushed together instead of a double or queen.). The room amenities were nice, including a clothes line for hand washed laundry over the tub, fridge, safe, kettle, fairly quick elevators, variety of buffet items in the half board meal package. There is a small but adequate gym in the sub basement.

Downside: the mattresses and pillows were well past their prime. There was a shortage of coffee every day at breakfast, which seemed odd for a hotel primarily serving North American tourists. (Should invest in some big percolators or airpots to fill in the kitchen.). There is a gift shop selling souvenirs but no convenience store with snacks or small items like sun lotion often purchased by travelers.

I liked staying here with a group but would not recommend for independent travelers as there is little by way of individual service or amenities for those not with a tour.

The olive tree hotel is a well known and centrally located tourist hotel favoured by pilgrims and tourists from all over the world. It is sited 10 minutes walk from the Damascus gate of the old city. The rooms were small but clean and comfortable with a separate shower area. We stayed here for 4 nights being part of a Holland trip and we had 4 breakfasts and 4 buffet dinners. The quality and variety of the food was good but the service was not up to the mark again due to the hordes of pilgrims. Overall good value for money.

Recently spent 5 nights at the Olive Tree as a part of an Educational Opportunities tour of Israel. Our room was large and spacious, the food was plentiful and delicious, and the public areas are very welcoming. I have stayed at this hotel before, and love the location. It is a short walk into the Old City or to some wonderful parts of Jerusalem. I would stay here again.

This hotel is in a great location to get to Old Jerusalem, the mount of Olives and many other historical religious sites. The dining room is huge and the buffets always have generous helpings of a wide variety of food. The room was comfortable and adequate in every way.

We stayed here for four nights, along with the others from our tour group. Staff were pleasant and helpful. There were lifts to our room 515 on Level 5. On entry to our room, the bathroom was to our left which was smallish was workable. Our hairdryer didnt work well, with the hose falling off continually and barely any air, but making plenty of noise. There was ample water flow in the shower and plenty of hot water. The toilet seat was marked and could do with a replacement just to look cleaner. Not that cleanliness was an issue...we found it all to be clean and comfortable. Toiletries are supplied and the shower is over the bath. Our bed was made up of two singles pushed together to make the double, but was made up singly. We would have preferred a double bed but we were plenty comfortable. The air conditioner worked well as did the TV. Wi-fi was good for most of our stay but had times it was unbearably slow. We ate breakfast and dinner each day and this was excellent with plenty of choice. However, one of our group is strictly gluten free and this caused some issues for her. There are a couple of souvenir shops at the hotel and these were good to have a look at.
