Hotel location is a prime reason to select Kingsgate. 50 m walk to the metro station, a 10 min walk to Souq Waqif and 15 min walk to the Museum of Islamic Art. Several eateries at the Souq to walk to, and Indian food (Saravanaa Bhavan) a 5 min walk away too. The hotel only has a breakfast buffet and doesn't operate a restaurant for lunch or dinner, so you'll have to step out for other meals (you can only get room service pizzas or some snacks from the lobby counter). Rooms are spacious, have all the amenities, and have a kitchenette/microwave (you'll have to request for cutlery though).

We enjoyed the stay of two nights as easy check in and out with baggage storage before and after. Friendly staff, comfortable bed, clean and spacious room with kitchenette and strong wifi made it more appealing. Close to the Gold and Clothes (market) Souqs with plenty of good, reasonable eateries made it very handy. Would stay again.

The rooms were very spacious and I lived the kitchenette.
The staff were attentive to our needs. It was a busy season so we had to wait a while to get checked in as we arrived a little early, however they kept our luggage for us while we went out and to check the neighbourho
The airport transfer the hotel provided was also seamless and for a good price.
The location was right next the the souks, easy walking distance to the promenade and marina as well as the museum.

This place gets the lowest possible rating because of the undue stress caused its incompetent staff. We arrived tired and hungry after 9 hours of flying, and were told that our booking was cancelled. She explained that the booking is not guaranteed until we message the hotel reconfirming our arrival.

I argued that I DID send a message on booking.com announcing my arrival time, and that the hotel responded to that message. I was having trouble locating the message because I had no internet and asked to use their WiFi, in which she replied that it is not possible since we have no room. Without WiFi I was at least able to show a message where they explain that they will hold a room until 6pm if the customer's arrival is not confirmed (we arrived at 3pm).

By this time it was obvious that she wasn't trying much to help us, so my partner asked to please put some more effort in doing her job, and that we don't want to have to escalate this to management. I added that we were exhausted after a long flight and need a room. She then asked his colleague for help and I overheard his colleague just telling her to explain the policy again and basically that it is not their problem.

Thankfully she didn't listen to him and found a room for us, which for me was surprising that we even had this drama as the hotel did not seem booked out at all. After 20 minutes of waiting we ended up with a room and were charged the same price but we paid the hotel directly.

After getting some rest and being able to look at my emails via WiFi, it turns out that our booking was cancelled by the hotel because my credit card on booking.com had expired. They tried to process the booking while I was flying, and then cancelled the booking a few hours later, before I had a chance to land and update my credit card details as soon as I had WiFi again (at the airport).

This is the worst possible experience anyone can have after a long tiring flight. I did everything as correctly as possible. I announced by arrival time the day before, and as soon as I landed and was notified, I updated my credit card details so that the hotel didn't cancel the room. I can't believe this place would cancel my booking literally a few hours before my announced arrival time, instead of waiting a little longer for me to arrive to sort things out. It baffles me how anyone working there would not have the common sense to do this, and could put customers through such unnecessary stress with this 'computer says no' mentality.

In addition although the location is great, the room itself wasn't in the best condition, with broken tiles in the bathroom and a tiny dirty window to let some light in.

Dear Mr. / Mrs. Alvarez, It was a pleasure to have you staying at Kingsgate Hotel Doha. We thank you for taking the time to share your comments and feedback with us, we sincerely apologies for the inconvenience caused at time of check in, however, please allow us to explain the situation how it works when you book thru a 3rd party, since you have provided an invalid / expired credit card, the system does the transaction and in that case Booking.com report to the guest directly that the card is invalid and they provide a grace period where guest has to provide a valid card, after which the reservation will be ready to be released in case of non receipt of valid credit card by Booking.com/Hotel. Neither the Hotel nor Booking.com would be able to know if the guest has access to the email to check or not. Our hotel runs fully booked during weekends (Being Thursdays - Fridays in Qatar) and on the 24th of January our Hotel was fully booked. If the card is updated (again it is on a 3rd party and not directly with the Hotel) and if the booking was already cancelled it doesn't appear in the hotel system. The receptionist was able to provide you a room that was assigned to another guest arriving at later time, and they managed their overbooking, definitely, if the Hotel has a room available we will not deny the business. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience caused, again this is honestly falling beyond our control, rest assured this issue will be discussed with the concerned team and staff in order to make sure we handle it in a better way in the future. Once again, we thank you for choosing Kingsgate Hotel Doha a place to stay, we all look forward to welcoming you back very soon. Best regards, Josiane Jabre Operations Manager

I booked 7 days quarantine in Kingsgate Hotel from 19/09/20 onward, we were 6 person, 3 adults and 3 children, we booked 3 rooms, when we reached the reception, they took more than one hour, no respect in their words, just like we are refugees ! They ask us to sign three papers as they are going to assign 3 rooms for us, but they dump us in one rooms. Reason they told us 3 rooms in three floors, we cannot visit each other! I don't know what is the reason ! If it is due to Covid-19 protocol, how come they can dump 6 person in one room ! I will be cooperate if they behave well and provide us facility for 6 persons, every time I have to beg for, even for drinking water. One time I ask the reception guy, his name shows Madhu, how you got three star ! This is surprised me that when checkout there is no formality, no signature. Because I paid for three rooms, they gave me one room, cheating business, that is in this country! I strongly believes that Qatar never allows this !

Dear Mr. Arakkal, We thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and comments with us. Kindly note that due to COVID-19 and strict regulations from the country Ministry of Health and Medical team, and due to that the Hotel is fully occupied by guests on quarantine, it is strictly not acceptable for guests to travel in floors and corridors, because in case of one affected guest it can affect many others, so these rules are not the hotel rule during this period of time, it is the government rules that we all have to obey to. The reason we gave you one Suite to share is to make it easier for you to share the time as family together, but we could have given you 3 rooms and don't allow you to see each other, the Hotel is under surveillance by authorities during this time and visiting each other will cause you a problems. At check in for early arrivals before 3pm it might cause a small delay as we wait for Ministry of Interior along with Hamad Medical Team to release the departures in order to get rooms ready for new arrivals, no guest can leave without the authority approval. For check in we need to get all adult guests occupying rooms signatures as well as either Qatari ID or passport, again these information are shared with MOI and we have to respect the authorities rules. As for water, we have placed a large box of water in each room prior to arrival, and guest can request more anytime they need, there is no problem for that. You have paid for 3 rooms and got a Suite to accommodate your family, you have been served food and other amenities for the entire family, to include beds, linen, water, For departures, formality is under Medical team for guests to sign some documents that are not related to hotel but only to guest himself, medical team and MOI. We encourage you to visit our page on some on-line booking engines and look at our guest satisfaction and high praise to hotel and staff, unfortunately during quarantine and due to restrictions some guests might find it difficult. Once again, thank you for choosing Kingsgate Hotel a place to stay during your quarantine. Regards, Josiane Jabre Operations Manager

The reason i decided to stay in this hotel is because i liked the Kitchen. I dont eat hotel food so i prefer my own food from outside. All the staff was very friendly and very helpful. Anytime i needed something they were there to assist within 5mins and Housekeeping also cleaned my room in the evening in which i appreciate because i love to sleep in. The only thing i would give my opinion on is that i didnt really like how small the pool was and its indoors, also the only food the hotel does give is Breakfast just a aheads up but under the same breath you are central to Souq Waqif so you have so any options of food, movies and even to walk around. I really loved the view in my room and thats why i never really left it. Thank you to all the KIngsgate staff for making my stay an amazing one.

I felt I’d really chosen right when I saw how well located the Kingsgate hotel was. Easy walking to the Corniche, the Museum of Islamic Art and the Souq. There is also a small but well equipped little grocery store around the corner- so that solved the breakfast and bottled water problem. I liked the little mini-food area at the hotel and used it several times. The staff were very nice and friendly, the room large and clean. There is a fridge and a microwave and a kettle w basic instant coffee and tea. I was very happy there for 3 nights. Quick to the airport from there. My room had a great view of New Doha and a small sitting area-I want to say room 606. Overall I rate it very highly. Would have been perfect if they had a restaurant but there are some low end places around the corner.

It’s conveniently located Uber was less than £5 to airport, I came in via metro since I fancied an adventure got off at Souq Waqif but there was so much construction I was filthy and couldn’t find it that I walked back & took Uber but it’s only 5-10min walk and Uber was only £1.70

I was only there due to a 20hr layover. The room with kitchenette was clean, the staff were friendly and the bed was comfy. I didn’t sleep over as my flight was at 2am so cannot comment on breakfast. They let me check in early too.

It’s ok for short stopover but anyone on holiday will be annoyed with the construction if you’re someone who hangs at hotels all day instead of exploring the city.

I had a stay of 7 days as part of my travel quarantine and to be honest i wasn't expecting the hotel to be so good nothing disappointed me at all from staff to the food everything n everyone went well. Reception staff were friendly and whenever i called them for tea bags or milk it was at the door withing some time no delays in anything. Food was delicious at first i was concerned about it that how it gonna taste like and i have to order from outside but when i gave it a try i went with it day by day untill my last day. Thank You Kingsgate it was a wonderful stay !

The only drawback or my suggestion would be you guys should bring a Smart TV because it's really difficult in these times to stay for 7 days.
Thanks & Regards,
Nadeem.

We arrived one day late and were offered a free upgrade also a very affordable late checkout. Staff were very nice and accommodating. Rooms were clean and had everything we needed. The hotel is located perfectly, walking distance to souq waqif, corniche, al fanar center, and metro station. Breakfast was great! Would stay here again next time we are in Doha, can’t beat the price and location.

Breakfast was included in the price when I booked. I'm not sure what would constitute an Indian breakfast but there were certainly spicy type offerings available. The immediate neighbourhood wouldnt have been my choice in which to eat out. As mentioned in my review it's not a salubrious location... ( perhaps try Google street to see what I mean)

Are you entering Doha, or leaving? To can arrange a visa at the arrivals desk in Dona airport, easily and more cheaply than through the airlines, who take longer, charge more and make you reserve at an expensive hotel, and I doubt that Kingsgate qualifies. Good luck

How much , is a taxi from the airport to this hotel or do they have an airport transfer? Thanks
Answer from uclatraveler9

We paid 40 rials for a taxi from the airport to the hotel (around 11USD, which included the airport surcharge). Be warned- if you use the hotel's transportation, it is much more expensive. We asked them to call a taxi to take us back to the airport, but they made us use their car service instead. They charged us 60 rials. I left a review on the main page if you need more detail.
