The rooms whilst large were dark and felt and smelt damp. The free breakfast advertised everywhere only consists of coffee and occasionally tea despite the breakfast menu itself stating 'free fruit juice and bread'. Other choices are available for a small price. During the stay there was a power cut for 24+hrs (nowhere else was effected) whilst not their fault... More

The hostel had a very nice atmosphere and all the people were very friendly. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook dinner and breakfast was good value for money. The rooms, however, were a bit dink and dark, and they felt a bit damp. The staff were quite knowledgeable about the tourist activities but I was disappointed that they... More

You really get what you pay for, and Musicology was cheap.. Everywhere it says that breakfast is included (on their website, on their busniess card, on the door etc) but it was only coffea and tea, the rest you had to pay for. You were lucky if you find a bathroom with a door you could lock. The wifi was... More

Stayed in the 8-bed dorm for 5 nights. It was basic but had plenty of space and a huge locker under the bed and was a really nice for the price. The hostel is in a beautiful colonial building, is very atmospheric and everything was super clean. There's a breakfast menu in the morning with lots of choices (pancakes with... More

My friend and I are from Canada and started our trip off in Bogota, staying at musicology and absolutely fell in love. We booked a week at the hostel and could have never left. I have travelled a lot in my lifetime and I have never made so many instant friendships with the staff and guests in my life. The... More

It was nice but it could be better. They say that the kitchen is closed in the morning so you have to buy breakfast but I cooked anyway. The fridge was broken but they didnt do anything about it, we couldn't even use the staff fridge.. Not so well equipped. My dorm was really small, they have bigger one also... More

I made a reservation through their website and I received a confirmation email. Everything seems alright but when I came to check in nobody could find my booking. To extend my stay I made my reservation through a well known hostel reservation website and again they totally lost it. They could not find my email in the system and then... More

This Hostel was a huge disappointment. the staff seemed uninterested to do their job, security within the hostel was minimal (they had lockers under the bed, but as we found out, they can be moved with a little muscle). we heard of a few people getting robbed and the staff was not helpful with this. We were promised a large... More

Thank you for your review. I checked with my staff regarding the robberies you mentioned and not one was reported, so the idea that they were "not helpful with this" is entirely false. Furthermore, not only are the lockers brand new with new latches we have a sophisticated system of security cameras in place to protect our guests. We take... More

Positive: confortable beds, spacious dormitories, very clean with enough bathrooms, nice vibe Negative: it was written in hostels sites that there was free breakfast, but when I got there I was informed that they had recently changed it and the cheapest option (2 croissants with butter) costed now 1500 COP. But we still got free breakfast on january 1st. Very... More

Really great social vibe to the hostel with lots of interesting and helpful volunteers. Ilan was really helpful with advice as well as sorting out my flights and visa problems with a friend. Intended to stay 1/2 nights but ended up being about a week and had a great Christmas dinner with the whole gang.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Musicology Hostel has been one of the few hostels in Bogota that has a long-term tradition. Now, a renewed and refurbished Musicology has opened its doors again to offer new experiences for travelers. Our beautifully-restored colonial house has two patios and hammocks to chill out in. We offer a fully-equipped bar and lounge with reasonably-priced food and drinks, in addition to a daily happy hour. We also offer a common room to watch movies, hang out and free use of DSL internet on our public computers. WiFi is also available at no charge throughout the entire hostel. We recently installed soundproofing in the bar, so you can enjoy our excellent speaker system, while simultaneously enjoying a peaceful rest. All of our breakfast options include unlimited colombian coffee, tea, fresh fruit juice. On our menu, you may choose between such options as fresh croissants, eggs, pancakes, waffles, fruit plates, oatmeal and traditional arepas, toasted with farmers cheese for very reasonable prices. We offer free towels, local calls, use of our guest kitchen, a book exchange, free and secure luggage storage for as long as you need, complimentary use of hostel facilities after check-out time and early check-in at no charge if your room or bed is available. Also, we have laundry service at the hostel. Our reception is 24/7 and there is no curfew or lockout. In addition to the high-quality services we provide, we also pride ourselves in our ecological principles. We are among a handful of hostels in Bogota that recycles; wood used in the hostel from our furniture, to our bunk beds to the bar, and the reception comes from demolition sources. Our amazing staff will be more than happy to assist you with your onward travels, advice on what to do in Bogota and just about anything else you need, so come stay at Musicology and let the music rock your soul!!! ... more   less
