Beautifully restored, you expect the floorboards to squeak (which they do not !). Beautiful courtyard that has now a roof against tropical rain showers but still gives a good atmosphere. Very centrally located, you can walk to all attractions in town (there are a few, really). I was upgrade to a gorgeous suite, which I could not fully enjoy because...

We stayed 3 nights in Cara lodge, and found it comfortable with good quality rooms. I loved the colonial style architecture and old world charm. Rooms had good air conditioning, safe, tv etc, so everything you need. Staff were very helpful and can help book tours, taxis and offer advice on your stay. The free wifi was generally good, but...

If you have lunch here, the chicken wantons are a MUST for an appetizer. The food is generally tasty so I wouldn't be too worried about anything I order. The wait staff are friendly and make you feel like you're family. A wonderful place to dine for lunch that's quiet and cozy.

I booked through TripAdvisor a hotel I had previously stayed at but right before boarding my flight for Georgetown, I received notice via email from the hotel that the room I booked was not available. TripAdvisor recommended Cara Lodge. BEST recommendation! I loved the feel of the hotel, the staff and the food. My room was big, the bathroom was...

A lovely, well maintained colonial building with well appointed and comfortable rooms. The restaurant is very good; the courtyard bar is very nice and the staff are friendly and helpful. Given that Georgetown is a pretty chaotic city, Cara Lodge is an oasis of calm, style and comfort that helps you forget the heat, humidity and traffic. I stayed twice...

We had a total of four nights here and found it a quiet comfortable hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice of food available. The lunch and evening menus were good too but with a limited vegetarian choice. However, it was possible to order an omelette as an alternative. The rooms were...

I spent four days at the Cara Lodge on business, as it had been selected by local colleagues as the location for an event we were co-organizing. They definitely made the right choice. The management and staff were very attentive and were always available to help with anything we needed. The food served for breaks and lunch each day was...

After trying to chose which place to stay around Georgetown, I'm so fortunate I ended with Cara Lodge. The whole establishment is very clean and professional from the lobby to the restaurant/bar to the rooms and hallways. The beautiful dark wood hallways were clean and shiny and the rooms were spotless that at times I just wanted to sit in...

The Cara Lodge is as always an Oasis of calm and tranquility, stayed on two separate occasions recently both rooms offered were adequate but I did have to ask for a change when I found toilet not flushed and bins not emptied. Food beer and staff all great. No hotel offers such a relaxing stay in my opinion . Can't...

We arrived in Guyana mid-afternoon in August. After an hour's drive from the International airport to Georgetown, the capital, we were driven through busy streets crowded with people-packed vans with horns blaring and people milling everywhere. We were hot and sticky and tired, albeit excited to be in Guyana, after a very early morning start. Then we turned into the...

Thank you for your lovely review. I can see you were totally enchanted with our beautiful hotel, which we have tried to keep in its historical finest but with all the modern amenities one would need. Unfortunately the wi-fi in Guyana as a whole is not the best, but I am glad our managers tried to get you the best...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The history aficionado will appreciate a stay at Cara Lodge, Guyana. It is one of the oldest and grandest structures in Georgetown, and is the best known and most popular hotel in Guyana. Cara Lodge was built in the 1840s and originally consisted of two houses. It has a long and romantic history and was the home of the first Lord Mayor of Georgetown. Over the years, the property has been visited by many dignitaries including King Edward VII who stayed at the house in 1923. He was of course later to abdicate and marry the American Wallis Simpson. Other dignitaries have included President Jimmy Carter in 1996, HRH Prince Charles in April 2000, HRH Prince Andrew in 2004 and Mick Jagger in 2005. This magnificent home turned hotel offers the tradition and nostalgia of a bygone era, complete with service and comfort of the most luxurious of hotels, all in a most congenial family atmosphere. Our signature dining establishment, the Bottle Restaurant, has been hailed as the best restaurant in the capital. It is open for lunch and dinner everyday, except Sundays. At Cara Lodge, we have worked hard to create a setting that is the perfect marriage of old world charm and contemporary comfort – ideal for the traveller wishing to experience a taste of Guyana’s past, and the business person wishing modern-day amenities. ... more   less
