Cara Lodge was an unexpected treat. It is tucked away on a quiet street, and could easily be missed as was evidenced by the taxi driver who came to pick me up there. I stayed at Cara Lodge for two non consecutive nights a few weeks ago. Upon arriving at the airport, I was concerned that my delayed flight would...

The beds are comfortable. The hotel offers great rates. There is no pool. The hotel is small but homey with modern amenities. Staff are attentive and friendly. It is centrally located in the capital city. This hotel is equipped with a restaurant and bar.

I stayed here with my wife for 6 nights while in G'town on business. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a late flight out of Guyana on a Saturday and they let us stay in the room until 6:00 pm which was great as we were able to rest before heading to the airport. The food was...

Our family came down for the Golden Jubilee. The staff was friendly and accommodating to our needs. The food was great - they serve all of the great traditional Guyanese dishes. The rooms all have air conditioning and fans and small refrigerators. The WiFi is solid, although you have to ask for multiple WiFi passwords if multiple devices need access...

Second time staying at Cara Lodge and once again very happy I chose it. A very comfortable room, and the staff are all very helpful and friendly. I arrived late in the evening, very tired and not having eaten - when I got there the hotel not only checked me in exceptionally quickly but they had also set out a...

Good enough. Colonial Charm. Friendly Staff. The food is quite good, despite a bit of a wait. Bed was comfortable, as was the room, despite the little tiny ants, which I guess, 'comes with the territory'. Place has a nice feel to it though.

Thank you we are glad you liked the food and the breezy restauarnt - there is nothing nicer than enjoying the open air and good food. I like your "go green concept" and indeed we do love the fact that although in the centre of town we are still in the middle of the rain forest and are lucky to...

We were very happy with the service. When I didn't feel well they went to the pharmacy for me. Air conditioned rooms were comfortable, with very nice pillows! The bar was below our room, you could hear the blender at night and ice arrival in the morning, but if it wasn't that it was the neighbors dog. We were up...

Thank you and I am glad you found the rooms comfortable and that our staff went to the pharmacy for you - we do like to try and go the extra mile! Unfortunately in an old hotel you may hear a little more noise than usual but we do try to be as quiet as possible. We have spoken to...

We had a very comfortable stay in this lovely hotel. The restaurant was excellent with very friendly staff, the mango tree bar was the heart of the hotel with great cocktails and superb rum. I can highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Georgetown

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The history aficionado will appreciate a stay at Cara Lodge, Guyana. It is one of the oldest and grandest structures in Georgetown, and is the best known and most popular hotel in Guyana. Cara Lodge was built in the 1840s and originally consisted of two houses. It has a long and romantic history and was the home of the first Lord Mayor of Georgetown. Over the years, the property has been visited by many dignitaries including King Edward VII who stayed at the house in 1923. He was of course later to abdicate and marry the American Wallis Simpson. Other dignitaries have included President Jimmy Carter in 1996, HRH Prince Charles in April 2000, HRH Prince Andrew in 2004 and Mick Jagger in 2005. This magnificent home turned hotel offers the tradition and nostalgia of a bygone era, complete with service and comfort of the most luxurious of hotels, all in a most congenial family atmosphere. Our signature dining establishment, the Bottle Restaurant, has been hailed as the best restaurant in the capital. It is open for lunch and dinner everyday, except Sundays. At Cara Lodge, we have worked hard to create a setting that is the perfect marriage of old world charm and contemporary comfort – ideal for the traveller wishing to experience a taste of Guyana’s past, and the business person wishing modern-day amenities. ... more   less
