It has been some years since I last stayed at this hotel but I want to urge potential travelers with an interest in history to choose it. Most of the reviews here have focused on its advantages, but I want to emphasize its historic significance. This was the home of Madame Lynch, the Irish mistress of the dictator Solano Lopez in the late nineteenth century. Because she was a fallen woman, she could not go out in public. Thus Solano Lopez had a private theater built in her house so that when a touring company went to Asuncion, it had to do two functions, one in the national theater, one in the private theater of the house. Today the dining room of the hotel is that private theater. Paraguay has a romantic history and staying in this hotel will allow visitors to partake of it.

This is an amazing old colonial hotel in a lovely location. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast and lunch/dinner are excellent. On Sundays there is a harpist in the dining room! The gardens are simply wonderful, and the pool is fantastic. I was sorry to leave the hotel and cannot recommend it highly enough.

This is a historical property in Asuncion city. It tells a lot about the classy and political society of the country and the many relationships with foreingners. The restauration and maintenance of the whole hotel is a key point to the value of the property. Rooms have been renovated and are more than adecuate and comfortable (bathroom can be on the small side though). Breakfast service is spotless with a great array of options and local specialities too. Staff is another wonderful asset of the hotel, which is really warm and welcoming with the paraguayan charm. This is a place to recommend and where to come back!

I loved staying at this old colonial style hotel with lush gardens and palms surrounding the swimming pool and tennis court. Comfortable beds and excellent service. I will definitely stay here again on my next visit to Asunción.

There are now lots of modern hotels available in Asunción but this remains my favourite. A short taxi ride from the city is a haven of peace and quiet. Good sized rooms with very high ceilings and very comfortable beds. The bathrooms are good with excellent showers. Nice grounds with lots of trees surround the hotel. The staff are excellent here and it feels like they want to take care of you. The rooms can get cold when the weather is cold so just ask for an extra blanket.

First stayed here in 1941! The building is the same but everything is up today without any loss of it's original charm. It is still owned and operated by the family of the gentleman who founded it in 1921. A true highlight is the Sunday brunch which attracts knowledgable Paraguayans and experienced travelers who prefer the exception to the all-the-same modern hotel chains. An exceptional hotel experience. Congratulations

Based on my last year experience, when I was informed that this hotel has been selected for this occasion, I decided to contact beforehand both, the hotel manager and the officer responsible for the reservations in our local office. regarding my expectations. Apparently it helped. This time there was an improvement regarding the room as I got one spacious room in the ground floor facing the lovely courtyards with tropical foliage and fountains. This particular room is totally isolated from other rooms, so it is perfectly quiet.. The room had all the necessary amenities.(fridge, free Wi-Fi. TV screen and improved bathroom). No improvement noticed on other fields, They still need to improve breakfast. Lunch or dinner eat someplace else.

Romantic hotel, not a business hotel. Excellent food in a romantic historical set-up. For a business traveller it lacks a working space, it has too many events ongoing and lacks commodities as a silent AC or a discrete refrigerator.

This was a strange one. We had the most awful check in we have ever experienced. The man on reception at the hotel tried to put us in a room that was not what we had booked, repeatedly lied, saying we'd have to pay a higher price. It was far too complicated to detail here, but it was deeply unpleasant. He repeatedly tried to effectively scam us by getting us to cancel at our cost and re-book. We were thinking of leaving but we'd apparently have to pay booking.com loads of money. Eventually as I got onto booking.com, he gave us a room that suddenly became available. It appeared to be exactly what we'd booked. We have no idea why this happened. It was very weird. We stayed and found the rest of the staff to be lovely. One manager in particular went out of her way to help us. The hotel itself is very quaint and from another eta. We liked this. Had it not been for the horrible experience on check in I would have given the hotel a 5.

I was initially given a very small musty, poky room, with a view of the car park. When I went to ask if there was an alternative I was told that this was all I had paid for. However, the receptionist then decided that there other available single rooms on a courtyard. These were much nicer. The hotel certainly has character, but seemed very empty. There is a huge dining room. It was quite a long way out of the city centre and I got lost trying to find my way back. Ability to speak Spanish here is almost mandatory.
