We booked the hotel because we really liked the look of the pool area, but once we got there we were told the pool was going to be under maintenance for our whole stay of 7 nights. Absolutely no communications about any of this and we got no official apology or any sort of a discount (we requested free breakfast since that meant they didn't have to give any money back to us). The only response was to tell us the website has a notification about an annual pool maintenance, but turns out it was in the bottom of the fine print (on booking.com) when we went searching for it and even this was only added recently (way after we had already booked). Their own website had no mention of it at all... Sound proofing is a real issue as well, the carpets are razor thin and you can hear every step from upstairs. Add in the fact that everything is just old and poorly maintained, and you can see how we were somewhat... disappointed.

We stayed in a premium room. Balcony overlooked the bay for lovely sunset views. The room was spacious however the bed contained a heavy doona and no top sheet so it was too warm for the weather. They provided no hand soap for the basins in the bathroom. The shower/bath was very dangerous having a very high wall, sloping floor and nothing to hang onto getting in and out. The free Wi-Fi was a joke. 250mb was half used up just doing online check-in for our flight. We only wanted to check our emails and catch up with family in Australia, but the allocation ran out. We stayed in 4 other hotels throughout New Caledonia and all provided free unlimited Wi-Fi even way up north at Poum. The buffet breakfast was extremely expensive at $105 for 2 including the 10% discount. Better to go down the street to Le Fare for half that amount.

I’ve never experienced such a hotel. Looking in the Expedia app, everything seems reasonable. But in fact I was stored in the budget hotel, at the boulevard! Very noisy, door couldn’t be closed without a noise, room and bathroom in a bad shape. And the man at the reception couldn’t hardly speak English. At night beach parties are going on until 03:30. And of course the afterparty. So if Nouvata was the only hotel which has a free room, I would surely sleep in the car, on the beach or in the forest! Never again. A potty I can’t give a negative star!

I’ll start with the good about this place as this’ll be quick. The room we were given was huge. We paid for the premium ocean view deluxe room. That’s about the best I can say for the positives. On the down side, the room stinks of musky / mould smells. The carpet (orange) and decor is very dated and something out of the 80’s. There was a mismatch of furniture - less shabby chic, more shabby. The ocean view description is generous! There is clearly water damage everywhere on the exterior of the building with the paint work in desperate need of a refresh and I suspect some of this water has crept into the carpet. The free wifi is 250MG per room per day so for 2 of us this lasted about 30 mins and that’s it. The English language channels on TV didn’t work. The telephone in the room didn’t work. There is no soap or hand towels in the 2 toilets. We were told to use the shower gel from the shower and our bath towels 😳. The shower is one you have to climb into and given the sloped sides inside is a recipe for disaster. if you don’t slip after someone has used it you’re the lucky one. The final insult for us was a very noisy family with children above us. They bashed and dropped everything and destroyed the quiet. We asked to be moved but we were denied. I had to go and speak to the family but it made no difference and they still woke us up at 6am. In isolation you would put up with a few of these issues on a short visit and given the price was very reasonable we accepted you get what you pay for. Noisy kids isn’t the hotels fault but I asked them to have a word but they didn’t and to move us but they didn’t .That said I would expect the basics but even this was absent. We were supposed to stay here for 4 nights but we had to check out a day early given all these issues and moved next door to the Hilton. It was double the nightly price but so so much better. I know New Caledonia would’ve been hit hard by Covid and lack of tourists but all the hotels are now competing for your business and there are many better options than the Nouvata. Ask anyone that knows me and they’ll say I usually just make do but on this beautiful Island the hotel really let the side down

Do not stay in the Budget rooms! Unless you enjoy the full nightclub experience in your room. The view is stunning, alas the budget rooms are very run down. However, they are adjacent to a nightclub and most nights the music is incredibly loud, even with the door shut. And the room vibrates... There is no discussion or mention of this on the website or at check in by staff. We have asked for our money back, as it was impossible to sleep Friday and Saturday nights. Management have not responded

I was here in January 2020 and had a lovely little break. We had one of the bigger rooms on the 7th floor. Two big beds and a sofa bed in there, which accommodated myself, my daughter and my best friend perfectly. I loved the hard mattress and slept really well. The air-conditioning was working really well thankfully, as it was very hot when we were there. It was not too noisy either. The bathroom was big and had a HUGE bathtub that my daughter loved, went for her evening bath without discussion. The shower also had different shower head settings which we appreciated. There is a sizeable walk-in closet which was great as I got up at 05.00 in the morning to go for a run. I got changed in there and did not wake anyone up. Great promenade for running just across the road. I went one day left, one day right. It was so beautiful and peaceful. It was a bit outside of the season when we went, and it was nice and quiet by the pool. They have a kid pool too, but we did not spend any time in there as it was always in the shade. My daughter liked to float around the big pool and climb up on the little island. In the early mornings, the pool was used for Aqua gym. I did not participate. but it looked like fun. We saw the traditional dance show one evening, it was very good, my daughter fell in love with the Princesses that were dancing and has watched Moana a hundred million times since. The hotel was nice and clean, maybe a bit dated but all around nice. It is on the beach, just have to cross the road. We went to the beach once or twice but my little one prefers to swim in the pool as there is no current there (got spooked in Australia once) Plenty of nice little restaurants around there too with good Wi-Fi connections. The Wi-Fi situation is the only thing that brought the hotel down in my eyes. You get a certain amount of free time and then you have to pay for the rest. In these days I think that is a shame. There are also a lot of nice shops in the vicinity, I also liked the second had shop at the nail salon at the hotel. The supermarket is about 10-15 minutes’ walk away. The staff at the reception and maintenance staff were all very nice and efficient.

This place has aircon units that barely cool the room. An uncomfortable bed you would not wish your worst enemy to sleep on. A couch that so hard to even sit on comfortably. And don’t even get me started on the cockroaches which the receptionist told me was because we were in the tropics. I saw zero out and about yet in my room around 5 in one night in my bathroom. I would definitely give this a miss or would not pay anything over $50 a night for it. Extremely dated and poorly maintained. Sockets in my room where lamps are not plugged in. Then the actual light in the room other than daylight dismal. How can you call yourself a hotel when you barely meet motel standards. It’s any wonder the rise of Air B&B when places like this are so below standard.

I was going to put an okay review on until this morning. I'll start with The good. The rooms are clean apart from the continuous micro ants everywhere that don't seem to be a problem. Now the not so good, the air conditioning pours water onto the floor everytime it's turned on. The electricity for the room is standard put your key card in the slot but that means when you leave the fridge turns off and warms any food up while you're out. Great for food poisoning. The safe was locked and unuseable from day 1. The maid broke off our toilet seat and just smiled and left it for me to fix. The on site restaurant serves overpriced school dinners - you may wish to eat elsewhere. Now the scary. Early this morning the fire alarm went off. We are on the 7th floor so grabbed a pair of shorts and headed down the fire exit into the lobby. Most other guests chose to use the lift which is dumb but some followed us down the fire exit. In the lobby a sole receptionist casually handed out pool towels oblivious to the alarm. As everyone stood around confused I approached the desk and asked what we were supposed to do. I was told to get in line behind the towel queue and wait my turn. Absolutely not, I pointed out there was a fire alarm going off and she looked at me blankly. The next towel guy got annoyed and told me to get in line. Absolutely not. I asked the receptionist what her procedure is in the event of a fire and she did not have a clue. Security came, but rather than direct anyone he just stood there and didn't have a clue. Most guests had decided it was not a fire by this time and headed back for the lifts as a maintenance guy ran around with some urgency but no one gave an all clear. I was told to wait for the manager that would be in at 9am. I wonder if the fire will wait too!

Easy to find across the road from the beach - Ansa Vata Bay. Huge car park at the back of the hotel for cars. Quick check-in, although we got lost trying to find our room overlooking the bay. One of the workers noticed us and directed us to the hotel. The room was clean and tidy with a little balcony. Most evenings were spent on the balcony. The room was above the restaurant and could get quite loud. However, if you closed the sliding door, you would not hear a thing. Housekeeping was quick and we were able to get extra fresh towels and toiletries if required. We overlooked the Rimba Juice cafe and had a few meals there. It is a 10-15 minute walk to supermarkets for groceries. Lots of restaurants within walking distance.
