My trip to Yangon couldn't have started worse. The airline lost my bag, the ATMS wouldn't take my card, the airport money exchanges wouldn't take cash Australian dollars, the last city bus had gone.Things looked up when I got here. The Hood trains young aspiring hospitality workers so you get hotel service for hostel prices. Not the accommodation ofcourse but the rooms have curtained bunks, bunk lights and power points , lockers and total privacy in partitions. The management could not have been more helpful. They kept ringing the airline until my bag was found and delivered, and directed me to a nearby place where I could get emergency needs. A good breakfast is included and they have a restaurant serving reasonably priced good meals. The hostel is close to main tourist sites…
What a great idea !!! The young staff are all so super keen and helpful!!! The rooms are clean and well kept , the reception staff full of local knowledge. They helped me book bus ticket in advance of arrival and are really keen to learn new languages- fantastic place to stay and relax . Thanks again and see you soon ! Keep Up the great work
The most important and useful is staff at there. Very helpful. They helped me to find my luggage lost by airline and exchanged currency by good rate. Room is spacious, bed is soft and big. I was very satisfied
Aesthetically designed hostel located at a walking distance from Sule Square. The hostel is clean and comfortable. Extra points to the friendly, courteous, ever-smiling, and always ready-to-help staff. I had trouble finding Grab to the bus station. One of the staff even went out to look for a cab. I stayed at the Hood Hostel at the beginning of my trip and went back on the last day, as well (in December 2019)!
Nice, Nice and Nice Clean and impeccable Nice beds: I slept like a baby Nice service: young people are lovely and give very helpful recommendations The Hostel is a peaceful gem in the middle of a busy neighborhood. I trully recomend it.
We arrived at 7.15am. Was not able to check-in before 2pm. The students working here were so helpful, friendly & attentive! Hostel is simple with modern design. We booked a family room which is spacious & clean. We had great 1 night sleep. Wifi is awesomely fast. They even provided a hairdryer in the room. Our tv did not functioned & they fixed it until it works. They use Skynet so we were able to enjoy movies & cartoon channels. Breakfast was simple & the pancake is tasteful. They allowed us for late check-out until 4pm for 10,000ks. So lucky to find this gem in Yangon. Definitely worth it!
We loved staying here at hood hostel. The staff were all so, so kind and couldn’t be more helpful. The beds are super comfy and the rooms and bathrooms spotlessly clean. A delicious free breakfast, also cooked by the very attentive staff. A great place, great location to stay and supporting a great cause. Thank you to all the students of hood hostel, we really enjoyed our stay with you. :)
Sparkling clean hostel in a great area of Yangon, close to downtown (walk away). As able to walk to all the areas I wanted to visit and taxis are very affordable. Breakfast is great, with Burmese pancake, bread, eggs. There is also a quiet work space on the first floor, with WiFi across the whole hostel. The best part are the amazing staff that work at hood. Students of hospitality, they were always so ready to help and very professional. Stay at Hood for a home in Yangon !
Stay for a good cause and help pave the pathway for the next generation of Burmese youths. This hostel does exactly that, and more. By offering youths a chance to work and gain real-world experiences, the staff here are all Burmese youths aged between 16-22, who will complete a year of study here, including a 5-month internship here, and then graduate with a Diploma in Hospitality Management. This innovative arrangement is like a social ecosystem, so that every penny you spend here, whether to stay or dine, keeps the operations at this hostel running, and free education for the youths. Good cause aside, the hostel is conveniently located, in the heart of the city centre and walking distance to Sule Pagoda and cheap eats like 999 Shan Noodle Place. Of course, with barely half a year since the opening of this hostel, teething problems are to be expected. There's ambitions to turn the space next to the reception into a restaurant, and the common areas can definitely be improved to give it a more cosy vibe to encourage the guests to mingle. During my stay here, I also felt that the breakfast, very spartan and routine at the moment, can definitely be improved. However, with budget consideration, this is definitely an encouraging start, and I'm sure the owners/partners will look for ways to improve the guest experience. The youths really bring about a different energy to this place, and the reception you will receive is nothing short of exemplary! …
The location is fantastic. It's situated in an area with lots of eateries, the Sule Pagoda and a huge park within walking distance, but the street it's on is very quiet, giving some respite from bustling Yangon. The 10-person dorm was a sanctuary for me as it was very comfortable and cool with big beds and offered some privacy and peace. The Wifi worked well, there's free water refill and the staff are very kind. They allowed me to shower when I arrived at 6am and went the extra mile to ensure I had whatever I needed. The breakfast is simple but I understand they're trying to improve it. Also, it's not a great hostel for socializing. However, given time, I'm sure they could make use of the space to create some common areas. Lastly, there are some rather steep stairs to the rooms so it's not suitable for people with mobility issues. HOOD provides an opportunity for youths to gain real-world hospitality experience but that's definitely not the only reason I'd stay here again.…
