This is a throw back in time. Each floor has a butler, who does take care of you and anything you may want. The reception area is beautiful and welcoming. The restaurant has delicious, and sophisticated dishes that satisfy vegetarians and meat eaters alike. We loved our suite and looked forward to coming back to it while exploring the rest...

The restored reception area with ceiling fans is reminiscent of Rudyard Kipling times. The business lunch is excellent value at $20 for 2 course or $25 for 3 course. Cuisine excellent and service attentive. Cocktails excellent and local wine surprisingly good. Great ambiance of colonial times. The gift shop has a good selection of souvenirs at reasonable prices. No need...

In a hot and dusty city, the Strand is an oasis of serenity. Recalling Colonial times, the hotel rooms are large, with high ceilings and extremely comfortable beds. Each floor has its own butler. The food in the cafe was excellent although service was a bit slow. The shops in the annex have items ranging from souvenir trinkets to beautiful...

We stopped off for tea and cake at the Strand. The epitomy of colonialism. Prices are quite expensive but not unexpected for this standard of hotel. It really took you back in time to what it must have been like when the British were in Burma in the 1950s

just take the opportunity to relax in the Strand-Café for real 'English Hight Tea'. We did it everyday while we were in Yangon - the cakes were just too excellent...and the atmosphere is just amazing.

Yes, that's usually a cliche, but at the Stand it rings true. The moment you step into the hush of the lobby, with it's high, high ceilings and giant bouquets you will begin to relax. Registration is simple, and yes they will take credit cards,,,but at 6% commission. Room categories seem a bit confusing, but we had booked an Executive...

One of my pet travel peeves is a hotel that trades on its legacy without much concern for current guests. It is of no consequence to me that HRH King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV of Tonga visited in 1936, although I would guess that the good king had a better stay. We traveled around Burma in March, 2013 and decided to...

Definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Burma. The place oozes effortless style and class and is one of the last remaining great colonial hotels of the East. Everything about it from the bar, to the floor butler, to the à la carte breakfast menu makes you feel like you've stepped straight into an Orwell novel. Yes, it...

I am rating the service at the bar. My sister and I went there after some sightseeing and shopping as we wanted to treat ourselves and as this is supposedly a great hotel. We expected good service and friendly staff as we have been travelling in Myanmar for over a week and loved it as the people were very gentle...
