The Strand is a remarkable hotel for it's history, location, renovation, and service. It is in the middle of the historical downtown and has many interesting (history and architecture) buildings nearby, and is a good place to begin exploring the city. Taxis to anywhere are cheap and, despite traffic being a bit of an issue (allow extra time to get...

Having thoroughly enjoyed a previous stay last year, we returned with pleasure just after the re-opening after renovations which have maintained all the charm of this colonial hotel whilst at the same time making it feel that much more comfortable with a warm and intimate atmosphere (finished tour groups walking in and out of entrance and bar, has made a...

We didn't stay in the hotel but had lunch there one day and the local afternoon tea another. The service is impeccable and has the right balance between staff attention and being left to enjoy your meal, The architecture of this colonial building is stunning and it is worth spending some time looking at the photos around the walls. We...

The hotel is newly renovated - it has this beautiful touch of Victorian style and it carries it greatly! Sarkies brothers have excelled here - once more! The staff, the service, the food, the comfort and hospitality were all perfect - we loved it! Great place to stay in Yangon before and/or after touring the amazing country!

Great place with a nice bar. Often crowded. Many old expats & travellers visit to this exclusive hotel. So even if you stay in...you may not get a seat at the bar. Rooms on the second floor. The Dulux ones are facing the river. Which are nice

This was our first stay in Myanmar and it certainly didn't disappoint. The newly refurbished hotel is very tasteful. We really appreciated the size of the room, all the amenities provided and the overall ambiance of the hotel.

Beautiful building in the style of Raffles following recent renovation. Rooms spacious and comfortable with seating area as standard. Unusual butler service on each floor which works very well. Outstanding staff from bellboy to general manager who cannot do enough for you and with a personal touch due to the intimate size of the hotel with only 32 rooms. Chef...

Having read the previous excellent reviews, I would simply echo their sentiments.j The less-than-excellent reviews all have other (inappropriate) bones to pick - like having breadsticks at the bar, etc. This hotel is a gem. Beside the sophisticated and tasteful decor throughout, the staff are exceptionally numerous, accommodating and helpful. This is a reflection of the outstanding management. I was...

Twenty two years after my first visit to the Strand, my husband and I decided to spend a couple of nights in the newly renovated Strand hotel prior to embarking on a boutique cruise down the Myanmar Coast. We were not disappointed. The service is of high standard, very friendly, personalised, courteous and solicitous. The food in the fine dining...

This magnificent relic of the British Raj first opened in 1901, and shortly thereafter was acquired by the Sarkies brothers who also owned a number of luxury hotels in the Empire, including Raffles in Singapore. Over the years, it fell onto bad times, including quartering invading Japanese troops in WW II. It was restored in 1993, and another glorious restoration...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Strand Yangon closed on 1 May until November 2016 to undergo a complete facelift that will return the award-winning heritage hotel to its former glory. Constructed in 1901 in a classic colonial style, the hotel will retain its heritage architectural details, such as marble and teak wood flooring, ceiling fans, chandeliers, lacquer wood furniture, Burmese antiques, and signature service elements, while being given a complete upgrade and contemporary twist through a refreshed colour palette and subtle decorative details. The interiors of all the hotel's 31 suites will be redecorated in keeping with the Strand's legendary style and elegance, while at the same time updated with the latest technology, including new air conditioning, sound and communications systems. The Strand is famous around the world for its flawless, personalised service and suites will continue to be attended by the hotel's team of highly trained butlers.
