Welcome to the only privately owned historical Castle in Georgia. Once a fortress before the Mongol invasions, it was from the 16th century the house of the Persian Shah Administrator for Eastern Georgia. It also hosted a small nunnery for some time. During the Communist period, it was transformed into communal apartments for up to 110 individuals. It has returned to its former glory, and a limited number of its rooms are made available for some happy few.

My wife and I visited the Castle in November 2021 and stayed in the Armory room. The Castle is beautiful and well maintained. The Castle arranged for Airport pick up where we were greeted by Victor who had out name on his sign. Upon arrival at the Castle the Staff was waiting for our arrival to take us to our room. If anything made our trip the best, it was the hospitality that the staff of the Castle showed us. The two people at the Castle made us feel welcomed were Andro and Nika. Both Andro and Nika helped us with reservations, recommendations and even PCR testing. The staff hospitality absolutely added to our Amazing trip at the Castle. We will stay again at the Castle next time we are in Tbilisi and look forward to the Georgian hospitality showed us by the Staff.

The castle lies 20 km from Telavi. You can get to it by public transportation from Telavi or Kvareli. There is a secret entrance from the freeway that brings about the tower. Another intriguing information regarding Gremi castle is that the temple has its very own Gremkalakoba holiday, which is commemorated on April 28.

Very disappointed in this hotel. We were excited to stay here in the armory room, thinking it would be a highlight of the vacation. At 750 GEL a night, it was a huge disappointment. The armory room is very loud, as there is a side door that seems to go in to the kitchen or something. At all times, day and night, we could hear dishes clanking, banging around, voices, etc. Sometimes enough that at 2AM we would be awoken by the clanging. Our room had a private terrace but we didn't even go out there as there is actually a door on one end and a storage room on the other, and men were coming and going every day along the "private terrace". The shower was very powerful but wouldn't get hot, just luke warm. Also, using the term "castle" is dubious. It is a nice building, but in Georgia, there are so many nice buildings. Although the hotel is nicely renovated, with nice staff and in a good location, in a country like Georgia you could get a much nicer room for this price. I would recommend you give this hotel a pass and save yourself the disappointment. I literally preferred out Airbnb that we paid only 50 GEL a night for.

ry disappointing Dear Steven, Thank for your review. We are sorry that we did not match you high expectations. As you rightly mention we spend 15 years to renovate this historic 10-16 Century historic Castle, clarified as a historical monument, by using only original materials. Unfortunately your stay coincided with the renovation work in the castle and it was a reason of the noise in the building and workers using the terrace. Regarding water, we installed a new systems and now hot water is available in 3 seconds compare to 5 second before. We did not get any information from you during your stay to improve/fix issues you mentioned. Regarding the building and the room, the Armory Room is our bestseller, with 68m2, marble shower, wooden floor, 10-16 century brick walls, Art Deco furniture, full brekfast and we ask in the low season 750 GEL during the pick season price is up to 1000GEL. Castle in Old Town is a special place mainly for history and art lovers. We do not provide services as big chain hotels. We hope next time during your stay in Georgia you will select standard chain hotels to avoid any misunderstanding. With best regards, Giorgi

The castle is incredible and I can’t recommend it enough. Rooms are so stylish, all with a story behind them... great breakfast, great hosting and you have to go up to the top to see the view from the infinity pool - unbelievable! The same type of stay anywhere else would be very “exclusive” I feel - but the staff and the vibe here are so welcoming and I loved staying here and would again.

Room Tip: Saffron loft is cool - out with the main castle building so it feels like a private apartment
