It was a wonderful experience staying in a Hanok. The owner Jooseok was hospitable and helpful. The rooms and ensuite toilet was very cosy and clean. The Midam house was located conveniently near the shops and subway.

Came to Seoul to visit some Korean friends. They looked around to recommend a hotel location and ended up booking me at Midam Hanok Guesthouse without me knowing. I was told that it is "very Korean" by their 18 year old son. That is all I knew before I departed.

When they met me at the airport they wanted to prepare me that the room was smaller than I may be expecting. Luckily, my imagination can make things rather small. So when I arrived, it was a bit bigger than anticipated.

The rooms are in a traditional Korean home - 4 in total I think. With private bathrooms. The shower is shared with the sink but doesn't really create any problems - the pressure and temperature are very good. I was alone, but two people would most likely be comfortable in the rooms. (The bed is a floor based mat; I slept really well, but some with mobility issues may not fare so well.)

There is also a kitchen in which the amazing owner cooks guests' breakfast throughout their stay. Simple but delicious way to start your day. (He's quite friendly and helpful). He seems to stay on site throughout the day, so I'm guessing he could also provide assistance in other matters, too.

I will definitely see if he had rooms on my return to Seoul.

Great host, traditional style accommodation. You'll be sleeping on a soft mattress on the floor, very basic room and tiny all-encompassing bathroom, but at least it's your own!
Take your shoes off! You can wear shoes in the tiny courtyard but not along the wooden walkways nor in the rooms.
You will have your own access code so can come and go as you please. Very simple western breakfast of single fried egg, toast, fruit.
Location is HARD to find, even taxi drivers will struggle, and the streets get narrower and narrower so you may have to walk in, at the very least the last 50 meters or so. But easy walk from there to the Gyengbokgung Palace and to nearby interesting dining. Short cab ride to train station but about an hour to the airport.
Would recommend a stay for a night, but probably not longer if you're used to modern comforts.
