Date: 19 - 21 May 2012 Room: Double bed with private bathroom If you're accustomed to the shoddy hotels of Europe, the Saerim Hotels will give you no bad surprises. Yes, space in the rooms is rather limited. Yes, the bathroom is a wet room. Yes, the wallpaper is peeling off in places (which, considering their dated garish prints, MAY...

it may not look inviting, and inside may look even scary, but it is definitely a gem. its location to all that is convenient like shops, places to eat, metro stations and airport limousine is one major advantage. sure the rooms are small and old, but that is part of its character. for the affordable price you get a huge...

The neighborhood is surrounded by art galleries, antique stores and tea shops. A lot of overpriced tourist traps. A great crash pad for night owls who only have a night or two in Seoul. No amenities and the front desk clerk speaks no English.

I had a great stay at the Saerim Hotel. It is in the perfect location in the middle of Insa-dong, a very lively area of Seoul. There are quite a lot of tourists around but that it because of it's perfect close location to all the sights in Seoul. Anguk station is just around the corner from the hotel and...

The hotel is located right in the middle of the Insadong pedestrian area with lots of nice shopping. Several major palaces, museums and sights are within walking distance, as are two subway stops and the very cheap and convenient airport limo bus to/from Incheon airport. The rooms are very cramped and worn. They did not have non-smoking rooms, so both...

The main advantage of this hotel is the location, it's right in a small alley off Insadong, which is the pedestrian street of Seoul full of small shop, cafe and restaurant. The rooms are very small, not particularly new, but clean and good enough for the price. And the staff is efficient and friendly.

First of all - the location. The hotel is located in probably one of the best areas. About 15min walk to two palaces and 35 min walk to town square and city centre hotel (don't ask me to check the names...it's been 2 months since I got back) The rooms are simple but crazy at the same time. There is...

Staying in Insadong

Neighbourhood Profile
Insadong
Nestled between Jongno and Samcheongdong, this small neighborhood offers a crash course in various aspects of Korean culture. Rows of shops display traditional Korean goods such as pottery and earthenware, crafts, fans, and more, making it a popular spot for souvenir shopping. The Ssamziegil shopping complex in particular has become a local institution for its unique spiral layout and the many boutique shops inside that sell handmade crafts and goods. This is the perfect neighborhood to sample a range of Korean dishes, with vegetarian Korean temple cuisine restaurants being a popular draw, but street food carts are just as famous. As a top tourist destination, crowds can swell, particularly on weekends, but you can find some rest and respite in one of the private art galleries or grab a cup of Korean tea in a tea house – many of which are located in beautifully renovated traditional Korean homes.

“I'm not sure if all rooms are equipped with a computer, so it might be worth confirming beforehand as it really comes in handy. There is wifi there, but it's very weak/slow to the point that it's basically useless (at least in my room on the 2nd floor), but the hotel room computer's internet was fast. Also before you unpack all of your things, check that the other stuff is working. If it isn't, they'll let you change rooms.”
