Stayed at Benhur for one night - a Saturday. Chose it because we wanted to stay in a "love motel" whilst in Korea just for fun and it was close to other locations we wanted to visit during the weekend. Got the impression the staff didn't speak much English but were still very polite and helpful - we were given...

I couldn't find the place at first as their is no sign outside in English, I eventually found it simply by using the address. Once inside, the staff spoke English well enough to check me in without any issues. The room was clean and nice with perfectly working wifi and a huge tv to watch. I enjoyed my stay here...

Travelled in Sept 2012. Convenient location, 5 to 10 mins walk from the subway, plenty of food in the area, from restaurants to street food. 30mins walk from Dongdaemun shopping area. On the stay: There isn't a separate shower, so you have to shower standing in the bathtub. No closet space or drawers to stow your clothes and items. Room...

Stayed for 5 nights, very cheap for Seoul, overall the experience was OK, we got the impression the place was more used to renting rooms by the hour rather than the night. After 3 days of awkward encounters with patrons I started to see the funny side to it all, the room wasn't what I would class as clean, there...

I stayed 2 nights for vacation and reasons of my choice are nice outlook and cheap price. A little disappointed as the interior is old and room needs repairing particularly the bathroom with a damaged jacuzzi. No English for hotel staff and they even asked us to leave the dining room (which is a bar at night) at 9:30 a.m....

I booked this 'hotel' via laterooms.com for my friends and I during our 2 weeks holiday in Seoul. As we found out, photos can be very deceiving indeed. The place was nothing like it showed on the web, the room was small, very cramped and our room in particular had an 'attic'. How they expect anyone to sleep there is...

I would like to give some information about my recent stay at Benhur Hotel in Seoul, Korea. I made the booking online through asiarooms.com and thought I was staying at a Hotel, but it was actually a Motel. There was internet facility but it was very slow that it could hardly even be used. The bed in the room had...

Convenient location, it's near the subway, plenty of food in the area and it's near some of the attractions. And it goes downhill from here. This is more motel than hotel. The bathroom stunk. There isn't a separate shower, so you have to shower standing in the bathtub which doesn't drain very well. No closet space or drawers to stow...

Staying in Gwanghwamun / Jongno

Neighbourhood Profile
Gwanghwamun / Jongno
If Gwanghwamun is the unofficial living room of Seoul, Jongno is the main hallway connecting some of Seoul’s most important historic sites and neighbourhoods. Being one of Seoul’s oldest neighbourhoods, the area is rich with history and culture in its palaces, shrines, and temples. Stand in the centre of Gwanghwamun Square with Gyeongbokgung Palace and Mt. Bugak in front of you, King Sejong the Great statue behind you, and modern office buildings encircling you—it’s one of the best ways to experience both past and present Seoul in one spot. The main street of Jongno is mostly dotted with restaurants and cafes, but explore deeper within its intricate alleys to pass decades-old restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and pojangmachas (tents that open at night for quick bites and drinks) and life seems to run just as it did a decade or two ago. Don’t forget to stop at Gwangjang Market, Korea’s oldest traditional market, where it’s just as fun to explore as it is to eat the affordable market dishes that locals have been enjoying since the market first opened in 1905. For a break from urban life, walk along the restored Cheonggyecheon Stream that runs parallel to Jongno for a moment of natural refuge in metropolitan Seoul.
