Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Staying in Rio house Hongdae is the best choice for both single and family travellers. The location is right next to the Hongdae metro station, which allows me to travel around easily. Yonsei and Sinchon are only in 10 minutes walk. The room is big and tidy and the price is cheap! Though Hongdae might get crazy at night, the room level is high enough to give a quiet environement.
More importantly, the house owners are extremely nice and helpful. They are eager to offer helps and organise many interesting events for guests to immerse themselves in the life in Hongdae and Korean Culture, like cycling next to Hangang river and hanging around in Hongdae area. I was travelling alone and when I dont get a partner to eat with, they brought me to try bulgogi and samgyupsal :D . The owner Mr.Yeom speaks good English and Mr. Cho is a very friendly and polite korean man.

+ve: We stayed at the Rio327 for 4 nights. It is convenient nearby Hongdae and closed to restaurants, shopping and Hanjeungmak. The apartment is clean and with sufficient space. For the convenience of transporting the luggage to the upper floor, there is a mechanical arm installed. What impressed us most is the super host, Nana. She is caring, helpful and making additional steps to fulfill our needs.
-ve: 1) Located at inside streets. Need to figure route to return. Nana took us there when checking in and guided us the route from main road. 2) One of the toilets got stuck. Nana fixed it the other day.

No doubt for Rio House's excellent location, easy to go by either airport railway or airport limousine!!! Both so close to Rio! And it's so close to subway station!so easy to get around tourist attractions! And after doing lots of traveling, walking and shopping, only takes me no more than 2 minutes to get back from exit 2!! What's more, there's lots of cafes, convenient stores, restaurants ( western or Korean ), all value for money! And taste good too ! Very convenience for shopping, especially for ladies,, cosmetics, clothing, household items....etc There's a currency exchange shop nearby too. One can actually do their last minute shopping after dinner or during the last day of the trip!! I actually did, cause we were leaving by the evening. Another very important fact about Rio is the very nice owner, Insung!! We contacted him for our booking and inquiries, he really gives quick responses no matter when! Helping us to sort out our private tour arrangements, giving us valuable ideas! During our visit, whenever we need his help, we can always whatsapp him and he replies really fast! Insung is such a friendly and cheerful person, we feel like talking with a friend more than a landlord!! And Rio House's price is really reasonable!! The apartment is well maintained and clean!! Would definitely come back again for our next visit!!!!

Check in: We were instructed to go to certain floor but not specific room so we wander around the floor quite a bit then suddenly a lady opened a door and asked if we were there for rio house. Other than that check in was easy.
Room: Room was a bit cramp since there were 4 of us with big luggage. I have to mention the bed, they were hard and uncomfortable. I wish I could say differently since the staff were friendly. Other than that, huge TV with a lot of channel. This building has a centralized aircond/heater system, it was a bit chilly with the aircond on 24hours during our stay.
Location: You want to explore hongdae and other part of seoul, this is a perfect location since subway is a few steps away.
Check out: Super easy and no hassle, you leave the room and move on to the next destination.

Though my trip to Seoul was in Jun, Rio House deserves me to write a good review. Rio House is located almost next to the metro station, so traveling to/from the airport and around Seoul is very convenient as Seoul train network is good and covering a lot of area. As it was in Hongdae a shopping area, you can non-stop shopping and eating until the middle of the night. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes nearby. BTW, if you are coffee lover, walk behind the building and find a cafe named Jass next to the supermarket. Small cafe with lovely decoration. The coffee is just great!
The room is clean and spacious. Rio House is interesting located inside a commercial building, or at least I think it was. All the staff are extremely helpful, particularly Insung (I hope I get the name correctly). He gave us his Line contact so that we can contact him for anything like the recommendation of a good restaurant.
The only downside of Rio House for me is the noise of air conditioner. I had trouble to sleep sometimes. Anyway, this won't stop me from using Rio House again and recommending it to you.
Actually in my trip I stayed with 2 guesthouse, Boa and Rio House. Both were good and value for money, but if you're not in very tight budget, use Rio House.

This is really late. My friend and I stayed at Rio House Hongdae in April this year but I was too busy to write a review. Anyway, we really enjoyed our stay here. The guesthouse is really convenient: you can just take the airport express train (AREX) directly from Incheon airport to Hongik University Subway Station which takes about 45mins, it is located only about 1-2 min walk away from Subway Station Exit 2 and it is just opposite of Hongdae - a hip and happening place with many cafes, good food, shopping and clubs. If you are towing your luggages, take exit 5 I think. It is shorter walk and comes with an elevator! We never knew it until our last day!
The guesthouse is located within a tall building with security guards and hence, we find it very safe. The rooms are neat, clean and big and it is equipped with its own bathroom so you don't have to share it with others like in other guesthouses! It also comes with a small kitchen. I also like it that the rooms make me feel like home. For families who are traveling with children, I think it's a good choice for you. :) But don't expect guesthouse to do daily housekeeping for you.
I like it that we can rent the wifi egg from the hosts. It's only about SG$6 a day and it can lasts from morning to around evening time. You just have to bring it back to your room to charge it every night and you can use wifi the next day again. Life is so much better with wifi usage when you are out! And we were allowed to bring it to Busan too! :)
Lastly, I really need to mention about the hosts, Insung ssi and his wife. They are a very nice and warm couple. On the 1st day we were there, when Insung ssi found out that my friend and I could speak a bit of Korean, he was pretty much conversing with us in Korean. But he was talking to us slowly so that we could totally understand him. We felt that he was like our Korean teacher at that moment, haha! And he also kindly upgraded us to a bigger room with 3 beds! Yeah! We could also leave our luggage in the room for 1 night when we went to Busan. We didn't even have to check out. So nice of him! :) We also created a LINE chat group with him and he would answer our questions efficiently when we faced problems. On the last day, Insung ssi and his wife chatted with us and accompanied us to the airport. Of course, their usual style was to take pictures with all their guests and posted on their Facebook! :p
The only issue I have is from Hongdae to Myeongdong and Samcheongdong, you have to change subway lines which is a bit troublesome. However, if you are only going to Myeongdong for 1 day, then it's fine!
My friend and I would want to stay there again when we go back to Seoul next time so that we could chat in Korean with Insung ssi and his wife again and stay in their cosy rooms. And if that time comes, we would like to order jajjangmyeon or fried chicken and eat with them together, haha!

This was our first experience staying at a guesthouse. Our 11 day stay at Rio House Hongdae was very delightful. Starting with the easy reservation process via email with Insung, he answered many of our questions. Arriving at ICN, we took the ALL Stops train directly to Hongik University Station, Exit 2. Upon exiting, we walked straight out and cross a small street. Walking straight, will lead you right to the Megellan 21 Building. Taking the Left elevator that stops on even number floors will get you to Rio House located on the 14th floor. We stayed in a large Triple Room overlooking the main road. Peering down the window, we can see the hustle and bustle below. The room had plenty of storage including a small couch, coffee table and TV. The beds were firm with a nice quilted cover. A full size refrigerator and a sink were cleverly hidden behind a folding door. The bathroom has a separate shower and sink. It was easy to do our laundry downstairs in B1. Instead of using the dryer, we borrow a clothes drying rack from the office. After washing our clothes in the early morning, it was dried when we came back in the evening. The air condition worked great. It was nice to arrive to a cool room after a hot day of sightseeing. Using our Wifi egg, we can communicate with Insung or Rachel via LINE. They offered discounted tickets to the Trickeye Museum. Insung made reservations for our English Secret Garden Tour at Changdeokgung Palace. He also reserved our DMZ tour. There are many eateries near Rio House. We felt safe coming back in the evening because there are many people around. We will definitely stay again and recommend Rio House to other travelers to Korea. .

Rio House is at the best location, just 1 mins from subway and have escalator. Nearby Rio House there are many restaurants and shops . Eating and shopping also very convenient. Insung also is very nice and helpful. Next time when I go to Korea I will also choose to stay at Rio House. Also I will recommended to my friends.

Me and my wife really enjoyed staying in Rio the staff are really helpfull, the location is in the center very near to the metro station and bus stations. Many restaurants are arround the guest house you just need to cross the street. It really helped a lot, I m ready to go ther again!!

The main purpose of this Seoul trip was joining a ski tour and we chose to stay with Rio House again. Pick up point for ski tour was just 2/3 mins walk away from Rio House. We received a festive treat from Insung and the cake he arranged was some yummy. We could keep our room till 4:30pm in our departure day. Very nice.
There is no point not stay with Rio House.
