I stayed here twice in March 2023. Both times for 1 week. The staff looked after my luggage for me while I traveled around Korea. The housekeeping was fantastic. Very attentive. Reception staff very helpful, wrote me a note in korean so I could communicate with post office. The breakfast and staff in dining room are also great. Love the location and room size plus amenities. Had everything I needed and with the local convenience stores so close, nothing was a problem. There are many great areas in Seoul but I can't imagine staying anywhere else when I revisit - hopefully next year. Thank you again for being so welcoming and looking after me so well. The only thing I'd want extra would be an early check in.

I expected this place to be good, but it exceeded my expectations so I am writing a review. I plan to stay here again in the future. I traveled in April 2023 and was with my 15 year old daughter. Our first time in Korea. Bottom line, this is a clean, spacious (for the 2 bed executive apartment), convenient place that I would happily stay at in again . Location: wonderful. Right near Insadong and walking distance from Gyeongbokgong palace. It's a quiet location. It's worthwhile to note that Insadong does shut down earlier (around 8) so if you want to be a stone's throw from nightlife and restaurants that open later, this may be a little more inconvenient. Walking distance areas with plenty of restaurants open later (maybe a 15 min walk?) From the airport, you can take a bus straight to Anguk bus station (Metro there too). Bus fares are about 17000 won. It's less than a 5 min walk to hotel. For the less adventurous eater (like my daughter) there is a subway sandwich right around the corner. Also a good local sandwich shop (called El Sandwich) nearby. Amenities/Service/Room. Check in was easy, staff speak English perfectly well and were very kind. Breakfast was included in our rate and served from around 6:30-10 each day (times vary on weekdays and weekends) and offered plenty of options, including an espresso machine that did solid americanos. We were there during US spring break period, and the hotel seemed to have a lot of guests, but we only waited for a few minutes one day to get into the breakfast room (we arrived after 8am). The rest of the days, we breezed in, but likely because we got there after 7am. If you are a breakfast eater, I HIGHLY recommend you get a rate that includes breakfast. Korea isn't big on the breakfast thing, and many places don't get going until 10 or 11am. You might be able to get a coffee and a pastry somewhere, but I like a savory breakfast, so the hotel breakfast was wonderful. Both Korean and American offerings. We did the 2 bedroom executive suite and were pleasantly surprised with the wonderful view of jogyesa temple and Namsan tower in the distance. As we were on the top (18th) floor, my guess is not every room has views as this hotel is adjacent to another tall building. Also the 18th floor meant more time waiting/being in the elevator. The room was serviced every day, and they gave 2 bottles of water. A pack of detergent was included in the kitchenette for the washing machine (no dryer), which was WONDERFUL to use because we were there for a week. Drying line over the bathtub was nice too. We did not use the kitchen except for the fridge but there is a stove, microwave, and kettle. The apartment was far bigger than I expected. It's worth noting that one of the rooms was way bigger than the smaller one, which had no windows and could be a little stuffy. AC/mini splits were in the master bedroom and living space. I had to ask for a remote as it wasn't in the room, but they came up right away, and then we had climate control for our entire stay. Other notes: Full size towels. I read after the fact that many Korean accommodations have tiny towels. Not the case here. Also no toothpaste or toothbrush offered, which I wouldn't have even noticed or cared, except there was a sign in the bathroom that pointed this out. There is a safe in the room that we did not use. Comforter and pillows were comfy, but they only give you one pillow per spot on the bed, which is fine unless you are my daughter and me who like to sleep with 2 each (we had 3, but no big deal). Bed was on the firm side but I slept very comfortably. The room itself isn't luxurious. It's pretty spartan actually but is clean. I didn't take any pictures of the room, but as long as you don't want plush couches and fluffy duvets, you'll be fine. No issue with wifi, but note that it was unsecured. We did not try the onsite restaurants as one was an italian place and the other dimsum. We were in Korea to have Korean food! My guess is your mileage may vary depending on the room you get, but we loved ours. It was such a good experience that I will stay here again for my next Korea trip. It just had everything that was important to me (comfortable bed, roomy, good wifi, breakfast, laundry so we could pack light, location, and AC.) Thank you Somerset for a lovely stay!!

It’s a little different every time I visit, Overall satisfied residence. There may be a noise problem. Ask for service at check-in. Then do it. There is a box voucher for the chef of Shanghai Palace. This is absolutely not recommended. The restaurant, not the residence, can make you feel bad.

I stayed here for 6 weeks, August 20-October 1, 2020, after completing a 2-week quarantine elsewhere. I stayed in Seoul for 3 weeks in 2014, 3 weeks in 2016, and 6 weeks in 2018, in Gangnam, and all over the city. This time I quickly decided if I ever invited friends to visit, I would insist they stay here at the Somerset Palace first, and really nowhere else ever. The main plus is the location - across from the palace, 3 blocks from the US embassy, in a very upscale area, that is quiet, safe, and near beautiful Insadong and Samcheong-ro. This is a residence hotel, and wealthy people have booked the 18th floor rooms for months and years, it is that desirable. It is a 1-block walk to attractive and fun Insadong, A friend with me in 2018 told me "One thing I have learned about Korea is there is a heck of a lot of money here," and that is the feeling one gets staying here, and walking in the neighborhood around here. The view from my room, 1617, is I think the best in all South Korea! Great upscale pizza restaurant on the first floor, beautiful outside courtyard, and a 24-hour GS-25 store.

This hotel is located right in front of Kyeonbok Palace, a famous spot in Seoul and the presidential residence is about 15 minutes walk. You can also find many places to eat and drink in the vicinity, too. The room is spacious and the breakfast is good. If you can put up with somewhat unkind staff, it is quite a good choice for a short stay.
