This is a real gem. Once a bath house for Egyptian royalty and a British officers' mess, this amazing hotel, converted by a Swiss hotelier into a style icon, with its rarity and fading grandeur from somewhat more halcyon times, is filled with character. It also has the friendliest and most helpful staff. Even the lobby is outstanding, which acts...

I will offer you a small amount of reality when traveling to any foreign place. Appreciate the culture, but understand you are just visiting. They do not follow your rules, or customs. Do not force them. A slight appreciation of their own values is indicated, but do not go overboard. Use a little common sense; if it looks dangerous don't...

I recently was fortunate to stay in a wonderful old hotel in Cairo. The Windsor Hotel is of the oldest hotels in Cairo. It was the British Officers Club during the protectorate era. It is like stepping back in time. The staff and ownership are kind and helpful. This is not for everyone. There is no glitz. This is an...

I cannot recommend the Windsor Hotel more highly. We were a large group of international travelers, many coming to Egypt for the first time, and this hotel was the highlight of our trip. The history of the building is fascinating, the atmosphere is one-of-a-kind, the location is central and the staff (many English-speaking) are incredibly kind and accommodating. If you...

This is a great budget hotel in the heart of Cairo's Downtown Area. The hotel's antique decor has been maintained in classic 1900's style, right out of those old Colonial black and white films. It's just like staying in a hotel from 100 years ago, when the great archaeological finds were being made in the Pyramids Giza area. This hotel...

What a fantastic experience for our first time in Cairo. Hotel staff picked us up at the airport, helped us arrange two days of tours with an expert guide (Rinya) and driver. We saw everything we wanted to see and a few things we didn't even know to ask for! The hotel staff was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. The hotel...

Staying at the Windsor Hotel is an experience you could not find anywhere else in Cairo. Previously owned by the royal family as a bath house and then as housing for officers during the World Wars, the hotel has completely maintained the original atmosphere. Everything from the elevator lift to the furniture is late 19th century British original. It's location...

Totally diggin' this place. The faded grandeur of a former, colonial British officers' club now hotel. It's old and beautiful. Dig the elevator and ol'-timey switchboard and the furnishings and the bar. I fell in love with this place. Go! Book the room, damn it! If it's not your thing go somewhere else - but mebbe, jus' mebbe, you'll fall...
