This place doesn't look like it has been renovated since the 80's. Must room smell, old best up furniture, tiles and fixtures. I can't believe that Hilton let's it tarnish their good name. Needs a total to to bottom renovation. Stay elsewhere until then.More

The Nairobi Hilton is fairly typical of large business-oriented hotels in Africa. The hotel is showing its age. The decor features a lot of wood paneling, making it feel a bit dark and cramped. The rooms are a good size, but I always returned to...More

Hi, the hotel is indeed a great base and is in the centre of town. The hotel has it's own travel agency but I would suggest shopping around. I am not sure from your question if you are on a budget or looking for a luxury safari experience. For both, get a few quotes. I personally prefer the flight transfer options from Wilson airport (a smaller airport just outside the city) direct to the game reserves, than the long drives to the game parks... that said, I have been doing this for many years now and am getting a bit grumpy in my old age!
Unlike some others who have commented I would say, "please *do not* miss some of what Nairobi has to offer"! Like any big urban city, care must be taken and I would suggest not wearing jewellery or carrying expensive cameras etc. when walking the streets. I consider it being respectful. A watch you may have picked up from a petrol (gas) station for a few £$ may be worth the money it takes to feed a family for a week - so best not to flaunt. That said, Nairobi is a financial and business capital city and most of the guys walking around have better phones and watches than mine!
A few things to do in Nairobi:
City Market - a bustling market place not 10 mins walk from the Hilton. Yes you will be swamped with offers of the 'best price' from everyone you meet - but a polite, "I am just looking" or, "sitaki leo, ahsante" (not today, thank you) is ususally enough to help you have a nice wander round... and word travels fast if you just want to look and not be bothered. Remember to see the curios on the first floor. If you do want to buy - BARGAIN! In general, start at 10% of the original price and have in mind your maximum price.
If you fancy some different food, there is a lovely Italian place not far from the hotel (less than 5 mins walk), Trattoria Ristorante & Pizzeria. I do not suggest you walk in the dark, but the hotel staff may walk you there and the restaurant staff may walk you back - or simply grab an Uber for the (very) short drive. The restaurant only takes cash but has great food and good steaks.
You can also visit Carnivore in Langata - the world's biggest BBQ (probably?!) Great place for a nice meal. The Simba Salon, an almost outdoor nightclub attached offers a friendly place to boogie the evening away. Each night has a different theme (sometimes guest DJs or performers). I always used to go on a Wednesday which was called 'Rock Night'... we would probably call it 'pop night'. Good fun whatever your age.
More locally, right across the road from the hotel is Pizza Inn (think Pizza Hut Express), Chicken Inn (Kentucky?) and an Ice cream shop. This is your bog-standard fast food, but you might just want that in your room one night.
I also like the relatively new restaurant called Kilimanjaro Jamia which is just across the street from Hilton. It is where the local trendy young (and old) office workers go for lunch in the city. Excellent local food (with an Ethiopian influence), big portions and low prices. Get a seat on the balcony and watch the world go by.
Perhaps I have gone overboard in my response (!) but I wanted to say - go and enjoy Nairobi. Be sensible (as per any large city), stay safe and enjoy!
