We stayed at Mkoko House for 5 days mid October and we had one of our best holidays in Kenya so far. We were 2 adults and 2 kids (2,5 years old twins). We rented one room, but there were no other guests, so we had the whole house for ourselves. The communication with Nicolas by email was good and... More

We had the time of our lives at Mkoko House! It was such an absolute pleasure. The house is huge and just near the beach. It has many great verandas and right in the middle of nature. Idi is the main highlight of staying at the house since he cooked us mouth-watering meals day after day! We just couldn't get... More

Mkoko House is that kind of place where you would just like to make time stand still and never leave! You forget all the hustle and bustle of city life within seconds of arriving. The house is super comfortable and absolutely beautiful and you are looked after like royalty by Idi. I would warmly and highly recommend staying at Mkoko... More

We stayed in Mkoko House following a friend's recommendation. We had previously been to Lamu/Manda but had stayed in Shela. What a beautiful house. We came with 6 other friends and our 6 months old daughter and we could not have been made more welcomed by Idi, our host. Rooms are clean and beautifully made up. The main living room... More

Why on earth did I wait for five years to come back to Mkoko house? No excuse. Manda beach in front of the village of Shela is still a pure gem. When your boat is reaching the beach, you are welcome by the big smile of Idi, your host. And a very fine cook. After a five minutes walk, you... More

I had previously stayed in Mkoko House over the new year of 2008/09. When I returned last week, I quickly realised I had left it far too long. The sense of homeliness and peace all came flooding back. Lamu is an island lost in time. Some of the scenes one can see and be part of have not changed for... More

I just stayed 3 days in mkoko house. I could not imagine better for a treat after hard work in Nairobi. The atmosphere is really relaxing and the deco is just great and simple. The food cooked at home from Idi with fresh product from the day was succulent. I strongly recommended mkoko for a short or long stay on... More

this is such a lovely house, with a very high concentration of lying down areas, perfect for what we were looking for. Idi looked after us wonderfully and made delicious food at market price. all the fittings and soft furnishings were new and clean. garden full of tropical birds. felt very safe despite people's perceptions. would love to go again.

We can only repeat the wonderful and accurate comments given by previous reviewers - this house, the location and the hospitality are truly outstanding and we would recommend whole heartedly. We spent 4 days at Mkoko house just after the recent attack in Nairobi, and we are so glad that we went ahead with the visit. We felt very safe... More

Many thanks for the great review! we are very glad that you had a great time at Mkoko House. Just wanted to comment on the room tip. Actually we do have 3 ensuite bedrooms therefore the 2 rooms downstairs each have their own bathroom. The bathroom upstairs is just a guest bathroom. Looking forward to host you again in Lamu! More
