We had been planning and talking about this holiday as a family for over a year so my expectations were very high, and I was not disappointed at all! The excellent service started from the moment we landed at the Cottars air strip, where we were picked up and immediately started our African experience. All the staff at Cottars are...

Unlike many of the big brands who operate in the Mara, Cottar's has a strong commitment to both, the conservation of the Masai Mara ecosystem and the advancement of the Masai communities who live in the Olderekesi area. The understated elegance of the camp and Cottar's home is easy to understand when you meet the owners. The staff are competent,...

We stayed at Cottars in early October. Truly an experience of a lifetime. The tents are a dream. The staff was so pleasant and really wanted to do whatever they could to make our honeymoon magical. Ken was a wonderful guide -- in 4 days of peppering him with all sorts of questions he had answers for everything! He made...

My adventure started 1 year and a month ago while my mother was on safari at Cottars Camp with her 7 Grandchildren. Mother visited Africa often and Cottars was unquestionably her favorite. Upon departure from the Nairobi airport my mother became suddenly ill and was hospitalized, tragically she passed away from heart failure before I could reach her. I was...

We recently stayed at Cottar's Camp for a family gathering, just after the terrorist attack at the Westgate Mall in Nairobi. We were assured by Cottar's that all was safe and, sure enough, they arranged private transport upon arrival from the airport to our hotel, then again in the morning to the airport for the trip to the Mara. Dolores,...

Dear Lisa, thank you so much for your thoughtful and heartfelt post... You capture so much about Africa that is hard for us to say ourselves but that we aim to give people the chance to experience, and reading it makes me proud to have my name on the place! Thank you! Calvin

We had a wonderful time at Cottar's 1920's Tented Camp, even after two weeks already in the bush and some of our group really struggling at that point (we are all around 70, so definitely not youngsters). What a great job Cottar's does to create a true Africa tented camp experience. It is not the same level of luxury that...

Dave, thanks for your honesty in your review. Yes, we probably do have to step up our game in the accommodation and hotel side of the camp when compared to the newer 'super-investments' such as singita, but at the end of the day its the experience, our wonderful staff and the soul of the camp that repeat guests come back...

Such a picturesque area, great animal sightings, had a very exciting leopard encounter too long to write about. We were able to see the migration of wildebeests crossing the river. The accommodations were old world safari tents made you fell like a Hollywood movie. The staff Douglas, our guide Steve and spotter Kitipa were all excellent. Highly recommend.

Just back from a short stay at 'Cottars' in the Masai Mara, and it was amazing! Perhaps we were just lucky but the game drives were much more than we expected saw Lion (many) Elephant & Giraffe (dozens) Buffalo (hundreds) Zebra (Thousands) Wildebeest (hundreds of thousands) and Baboon, Ostrich,Gazelle, Antelope, Various Monkeys etc.etc.etc The camp itself is magic, the tents...

Dear Cymag, amazing review, thanks for your support! I hope that with the initiation of the Olderikesi conservancy on 1 st October 2013, this will boost the value for guests staying at Cottars as - after much research - it seems the main reason for the perceived 'less than perfect' value of staying at cottars is that (1) our prices...
