The rooms are okay compared to other hostels I've stayed at. The bathrooms are fairly clean but they do stink. The food is WAY overpriced.

That was actually the worst experience in our life. First of all the level of customer service was the worst ever. Rude is the minimum we can say. They was just unbelievable. They had arguments with 70% of guests! We wanted leave the hostel but...More
Stayed at this hostel 3 nights. The room was filthy and stunk of cigarette smoke despite there being signs around the hostel advising “no smoking”.
The woman on reception was extremely rude and unhelpful; no other staff seemed to be able to speak English.

I went on the day-trip to the Mutianyu part of the Great Wall when I stayed at Sanlitun in January 2016. It was a nice day. You get breakfast in the hostel in the morning, and then you board a tour bus with participants from other hostels as well. It takes you straight to the Wall, and has an English speaking guide who explains the day schedule and knows a lot about the Great Wall. You are free to spend your time at Mutianyu as you wish, as long as you get back to the bus in time. Before leaving, a lunch is served in a restaurant near the bus stop.
I recommend going, it's a convenient way to go see the Great Wall.
