An uneven 4-night stay in a hotel under the Fairmont brand. This is a prime example of a Fairmont Hotel in name only. In the last decade, you get the feeling that Fairmont lends/sells their brand name, but the hotel itself is not up to...More
From the moment I walked in, I felt treated like a queen and got better treatment than I've ever gotten in America! They messed up our room accommodations so they upgraded us to a gold member room and that was incredible! The rooms were so...More

My wife and I recommend that you stay in the Wangfujing section of Beijing. It is very close to Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City, which are must see historic places in Beijing. There are plenty of hotels in that area. An exceptional hotel there is the Grand Hyatt Beijing but there are many others. That hotel has a well regarded Peking Duck restaurant called Made in China. There is plenty of shopping in Wangfujing as well, including an open air market with famous Beijing "street foods." Cabs are everywhere and if you like tea, we recommend you take a cab ride to Malian Dao, which is a section of the city with so many tea shops that you will be amazed - most with free tastings. Very impressive. Our favorite duck restaurant is in Wangfujing: Quan Ju De, and make sure you go to the 4th floor. This is a multi level large restaurant and the 4th floor is exceptionally nice. The duck was the most delicious we tasted in Beijing. Good luck and have fun! P.S. We are jealous!
