We have spent two wonderful weeks in Beijing. People in charge of the courtyard are really nice and it is located in a very typical and quiet area, close to interesting places. The tube station close to the courtyard is also very convenient. I warmly recommend this place if you want to experience the way of living in Beijing, instead...

Beijing in the summer is boiling hot, humid and moves at a frantic pace. To stay at a relaxed brand new traditional style guest house, that the designer got right and the staff goes out of their way to make your stay perfect, is a true find. The price makes it a no-brain choice for most travelers. This guest house...

Located 5 minutes away from a subway station, this beautiful hotel is tucked away in a traditional Hutong street of Chinese family homes - making it both excellently located for exploring the city, but also as the perfect retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the busy streets. The courtyard itself is absolutely beautiful; it is modern and clean...

A great concept, 8 small rooms around a central courtyard. Peaceful and supported by excellent (and friendly) staff, all speaking English. WiFi is very good. Very close to Xisi metro station. You can hire bicycles and see the sights.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
About Si He Yuan:Si He Yuan (quadrangle courtyard) is a kind of classical architecture of residential housing for Beijing citizens dated from the Ming Dynasty. The narrow streets between Si He Yuan are called "Hutong". A traditional Si He Yuan comprises of a central garden surrounded by rooms and protected by high walls. Si He Yuan with Hutong has a history of more than 700 years, but now is suffering from the gradual urbanization of the metropolitan Beijing. Many foreign friends regard Siheyuan as bungalow, actually it is not. It is a traditional graceful Chinese building. A standard Siheyuan usually consists of houses on its four sides and the house which stands at the north end and faces at the south is called the main house or north house. The ones on both sides are called side houses, and the one which stands at the south end and faces north is called opposite house or south house. Usually a whole family lives in one compound. The elder generation lives in the main house, the younger generation live in the side houses, and the south house is usually their sitting room or study. ... more   less
