Novotel Citygate Hong Kong garners praise for its efficient and friendly service, with guests particularly appreciating the complimentary shuttle service. The hotel's strategic location near the airport and attractions like Disneyland, coupled with easy access to shopping and public transport, is a highlight for many visitors. While opinions on the hotel's value and room decor vary—some finding the modern atmosphere and clean, spacious rooms a good deal, others feel the cost is steep for dated furnishings—overall, the amenities and location often make it a popular choice for travelers.

Hotel's Favourite

Stayed for a night at the property during my 1 week holiday in Hong Kong in December 2023. I chose this hotel due to my flight's arrival time into Honk Kong from Australia (around 22:00 Hours). I wanted to save myself the hassle of going somewhere far at such a time. The location of the property is its best asset. Novotel Citygate Hong Kong is located around 10-15 minutes from the international arrivals. The best aspect is that the hotel has a shuttle bus service that runs until midnight between the hotel and the airport (frequency of 20 minutes). Once I cleared the immigration, I went to car park 1 and the shuttle bus had a designated spot between bays 11-14. Waited for just 5 minutes before the shuttle bus arrived and took us to the hotel. The driver was very helpful and assisted with our (heavy) luggage. Check-in was a swift process and all the luggage were sent to the room within no time. Excellent first impression indeed.

The room that we had booked was adequately spacious and well maintained. Bathroom was clean with all the amenities a guest requires. As we had Australian chargers, an adapter was sent to the room. In-Room dining at that time was very limited with just 4 items on the menu- that is something to keep in mind. There were complimentary water in the room and more were provided upon request. With my booking, I got 2 complimentary vouchers that I could use for the Ngong Ping 360 cable car that connects to Tian Tan "Big Buddha". I am glad I did the booking with the voucher inclusion as it saved me a lot of time getting tickets. The cable car is around the same precinct as the hotel, so one can see a few tourist attractions too if staying at Novotel Citygate.

The breakfast buffet was fine, however the chef ran out of eggs, so couldn't get an omelette! Found it rather unusual for a busy hotel to run out of eggs for a breakfast buffet by 09:30 AM! Was given a late check-out, which was helpful to organize ourselves after the late arrival previous night. Concierge team was great in bringing the luggage down swiftly and organizing us a bigger taxi to our next hotel in Sha Tin.

Overall, a nice hotel in a great location close to Hong Kong airport. Perfect for transit customers who want some rest. Also, hotel is connected to the Citygate shopping mall and the Tung Chung MRT station. So, it is very convenient to travel to other parts of Hong Kong. Would definitely be coming back here if transiting or on a short visit to Hong Kong next.

The wonderful thing about booking into this hotel through Agoda, as I found out the hotel has airport transportation directly from the airport to the hotel front entrance, which as a first time traveler to Hong Kong with my partner and with big luggage that carried our one week necessity to tour Hong Kong as a BIG PLUS. Second of all, when we arrived at the hotel we were greeted by the door man who also offered assistance with our luggage from check in till we arrive at our hotel room, and to add on to the whole experiences, we were greeted with the ever so super friendly and helpful front line staffs, that made our whole stay throughout at the hotel even more than pleasant. Though we did not dine in the hotel, but we did ordered room services on our first night at the hotel. Its definitely consistent as the room services staff is also super delightful in sending in our ordered dishes to our room that I had to give him a big tipping even though he did not ask for.. the most pleasantly surprise it that the room services staffs that clean our room make sure our room is super clean with all the necessary things needed for our honeymoon stay at their hotel. What more can I say is that I will definitely come back to stay at this hotel with super great location near by the shopping mall offered up market goods as well as affordable gifts to bring back home to Malaysia.

Novotel Citygates is a very convenient location for someone who is interested in exploring Lantau Island and have equally convenient access to shopping, transportation, and food facilities. Located adjacent to the Citygate outlet mall, the hotel literally has signs in the mall and has its own access escalators from the hotel lobby to the mall / bridgeway. Being at this proximity to the mall means also quick access to the MTR (< 10 min. walk) and the Tung Chung station so quick access if you wanted to have a day trip and visit HK / Kowloon and even Disneyland Resorts.

We were a large group with mostly children (under 9 y/o) so the convenience of the hotel being <10 min. away from the airport, with complimentary shuttle service erased any additional logistics (and cost) to get to the hotel upon our arrival and was one of the clinchers choosing this particular hotel over other Accor chains.

We also wanted to see Ngong Ping and Tai O village and the cable car station was a quick walk from the hotel / outlet mall. Also, the location afforded us many food options from the malls and nearby establishments making it easy for the kids as well.

While not the cheapest among Novotel chains in HK, its many features does make up for its higher prices and would (and already am) recommend this to anyone who has the time of day to listen to me :)

This is the 4th time I have stayed at the Novotel Citygate in HK. Each time the process has failed. I book 2 interconnecting rooms and an extra rollaway bed for a family of 5 to overnight. Each time before the booking I am notified that we have interconnecting rooms and the rollaway for additional $. Each time we arrive the interconnecting rooms are not open and the bed is not in the room. This requires a call to housekeeping (this time at 3am) to get the doors unlocked and the bed made up. This is incredibility frustrating with a tired family. I can forgive this process error once or maybe twice but 4 times in a row clearly the process of booking vs the order to be fulfilled by housekeeping is not working.
The rollaway beds are as hard as a rock also. We make do by using the extra pillows in the rooms to pad it out.
I have also never received any welcome item as a Platinum guest which while not really required is something I do receive at other Accor hotels that I frequent.

The hotel is conveniently located in Citygate that is accessible by MTR. It is ideal for shopping because there are many branded shop outlets in Citygate. The number of restaurants inside the mall is impressive with numerous choices of cuisine at a reasonable price. If you prefer to drive, the hotel charges $250 for 24 hour parking, which is a fair deal too.

As for the hotel, there is basic facility like outdoor swimming pool and gym on the third floor. Novotel offers breakfast buffet but quality of food is mediocre. Room Cleanliness needs to be improved as one wine glass was stained. This is Very bad experience as we already poured our wine in before seeing it.

It’s advisable to check or wash the in-room utensils before usage as this is already the second time we experienced this in our recent staycations with another hotel. Don’t assume it’s clean. This is important especially during the pandemic.

From the room space perspective, it is not bad with 2 wash basins in the bathroom for him and her, nice surprise for a 3-4 star hotel.

Overall, if you are looking for sleepover after whole day shopping or outing to big Buddha, it is recommended. However, if you are looking for a resort kind of breakaway, you need to think twice.

Excellent location because it is in the mall that you can get everything you need or it is so close to the HZM bridge if you want to go to mainland China. However, the rate is so high in view of the current situation in HK comparing with other hotels. Also, the housekeeping service and front desk service needs to be improved. We have upgraded to suites that should provide 2 pressing service daily but housekeeping said it is only 2 pressing service during each visit. This showed that they did not understand what the hotel is offering. Also, I have guaranteed all expenses and incidentals of my stay but the front desk said I did not and I have to pay for a HKD500 bottle of wine immediately. I paid by cash and what is this service? I am disappointed when you have paid nearly USD5k in this hotel.

If you are looking for a place near the airport or a good hotel on Lantau Island so that you can see the Big Buddha or maybe over to Disneyland, then this is the place to go. They have a free shuttle to and from the airport. Unfortunately, we couldn't use it as our flight to HKIA landed at 11:30pm which is when the shuttle stops running and we had to leave early in the morning (5am) which was before the shuttle started. However, the front desk called us a cab and it was one of the cheapest cab rides that I have had.

We also wanted to stay out on Lantau Island because of the protests within the city itself. There were no protesters out at CityGate and with the MTR station within easy walking distance (you don't even have to leave the mall), a trip to the city is relatively easy. We also used the MTR to get to Disneyland for the day.

The rooms are average, but a bit quirky with odd shaped bathrooms in some of the rooms. We were in a party of three and because they didn't have any rooms with two double or queen beds, we had to fork over for a connecting room.

The front office staff was nice and we could store our bags here for our overnighter to Macau. This was my second stay at the Novotel Citygate and I would definitely stay here again on my next visit to Hong Kong.

I chose the Novotel Citygate because of it's proximity to the airport and was delighted to find that its location provided many other amenities. First, the Citygate mall is right up the escalator providing access to shopping and eating options galore. Second, it only takes a quick walk through the mall to get to the transportation hub. This was especially important to us because we wanted to visit the Big Buddha and the cable car wasn't running due to the extended New Year.

The hotel itself is also a delight. The rooms are large and have nice views. The queen room I reserved had a king size bed (maybe we were upgraded, I'm not sure) and the shower was hot and plentiful. We had a little trouble figuring out the lighting system, but once we did, the stay was wonderful.

In addition, the hotel has a nice buffet if you don't feel like going into the mall, an Italian restaurant, and a really nice bar with a generous happy hour. During our stay, the special was a variety of gin and tonics, each made with a different international gin.

The service was wonderful. The concierge helped us overcome the closures from the extended New Year and the check in process was great. The airport shuttle was especially appreciated.

Our stay started with horrible check in.
The staff helped us check in had a very negative posture and spoke with a swagger as if to say he knows everything.

Upon receiving the room keys we proceeded to our room. We were told we were upgraded after requesting for one, it was a nice touch with balloons and toys for our son.

The toilet was a horror show, the lights next to the mirror was covered with dust, the water coming out of the shower head was very weak, when changing to the tap, there was a horrendous noise.

The area by the bed board was also very dusty, with a two year old we were extra cautious and constantly reminded him not to touch anything in the room. When we turned the lights off to try and sleep we discovered a horrible stench coming out the air conditioner, it smelt like mould and gone off cheese. We had to call for someone to spray something in the air conditioning vent, that was also a horrible smell. We eventually sprayed my husband after shave. Whilst trying to sleep the air conditioner was so loud, luckily we were tired after a long day out, so we slept through.

To be perfectly honest the hotel rooms are extremely dated, I would even say it’s at least 10-15 years old. The writing on the switches had virtually all faded, as was the TV remote, worst the battery had almost died. The carpet look foul and very dirty, we dared not take off the flimsy and small slippers provided.

The next morning in the Essence restaurant the staff were all very friendly, especially the tall thin male chef, he was informative about the food.
Unfortunately, the food was very average.
The highlight from the breakfast was the egg section, pancakes and bread.

There were two positives about our stay, Olea restaurant had good ambience, in fact we had eaten there before and was extremely satisfied , that’s why we decided to stay at the hotel, needless to say we didn’t know the standard of the rooms. The restaurant had an elegant feel to it, food was very good again. The staff were friendly and looked after us, I have to mention Nicholas, he was extremely attentive especially with our son. He always made sure we were ok. We actually went for lunch and again in the evening for dessert, we we delighted on both occasions.

The ladies on our second day at front office were very helpful with our late check out and looked after our son and gave him a toy which he really liked.

All in all, the hotel staffs are very friendly. The room can have so much improvement. It’s a blessing with shopping centre there and numerous attractions nearby.

Hopefully the room will be improved and cleaner when our next visit.

Always a go to place as we adore the suite for it's massive whirlpool bath (kids love love this as it also has a small TV in front). It's always a must too book this room situated on the higher floors overlooking the cable cars. We were greeted with a platter of choco dipped strawberries and a bottle of sparkling water for our anniv celebration. Too bad the pool and Club lounge were still closed otherwise this would've been another Easter holiday haven this year. Fantastic staff especially at the buffet resto. The buffet spread is no longer as huge of a selection from the time I used to stay here and could be improved as we were having the same thing for 2 consecutive days. However, there is so much to buy from the connecting mall especially luxury shopping from the outlets. It's just a wondeful location for the shopaholics. Would be good if the hotel also can rent out bikes for the customers to go around the bike paths and possibly up to the airport roads (not sure as I did not check this beforehand with the hotel).
When does the hotel change to a key card operated elevator? It's just for security especially that it's next to a bustling mall plus the covid situation so we were kinda afraid of everyone coming in and out of the room floors. Other than that, we will defeinitely keep going back to this hotel and room.
