Was a Deutsche old mansion with all the authentic and genuine masterpieces and crafts are still there displayed. I felt it was a museum more than a Hotel. Good location. Clean rooms and property and well serviced. Good Breakfast with variety of choices. (-) Rooms are very small. Staffs don't speak english fluently.

This hotel has a very unique touch to it. Very traditional decor and visual overload in a good way. It's beautifully laid out with a nice fountain in the courtyard, nice pool, and fitness facility. I stayed in the executive King with a balcony overlooking the courtyard area. It was cozy and private with no noise coming in from the...

This is my second visit to the hotel and I stayed for 3 nights. The hotel has a nice colonial ambience. It is about 1km from Malioboro Street [ a major shopping street in Yogyakarta ]. A return trip by trishaw costs about IDR60000 [USD 4.50] There is a Spa in the hotel and the gym is not bad. The...

This is an exceptional hotel. Old world aura, great friendly atmosphere, helpful staff, great food & convenient location. We were able to upgrade to a poolside view which was well worth it. Put this hotel on your bucket list!

I still impressed with this hotel so whenever I go to Yogyakarta, I always decided to stay at this hotel. The room was so neat and clean during my stay. The service was very superb and natural for me, they can deliver every request from me. Top notch.

Enjoyed a 3 night stay here with a group of friends. Centrally located, this delightfully historic hotel, reminiscent of Raffles in Singapore, would be difficult to fault on any level. Decor is fantastic and the staff as attentive and friendly as any I've come across. I would heartily recommend you consider staying if visiting the area.

I've stayed in this hotel several times for business and pleasure and it never disappoints. The hotel has a lot of charm as it dates from nearly a century ago. The rooms are all modern, with nice beds, work areas, and bathrooms. It's worth paying a little bit more to stay in a room overlooking the pool. The restaurant has...

One particular staff manning the front office (the lady with glasses, bunned hair, and a very nice pleasant smile, i didn't ask her name) was very amicable, welcoming, and helpful (big thank you, Mbak! You're the most welcoming concierge/front desk, i'm not sure which role you play, i ever met in a hotel). The hotel location is in the heart...

The Phoenix is a class act. Not only as a hotel where staff, rooms and facilities often exceed what you would expect from a hotel of its reputation; but also you are surrounded by history. All the public rooms have artefacts and pictures that help you build a pCentraicture of Yogyakarta in its heyday.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This legenderay hotel was initially built as private estate in 1918. Through the ensuing decades, the property changed hands a number of times, until a Dutch caretaker turned it into Pensioner Hotel. The Phoenix name was deliberately chosen by the last proprietor who hoped that it would remain intact forever, believing in the ancient myth of The Phoenix, the sacred fire bird symbolizing regeneration throughout eternity. The Phoenix Hotel is elegantly situated in down town Yogyakarta, the cradle of Javanese civilization. The legendary Malioboro Street is just nearby, while the world herigate Borobudur and Prambanan temples are only an hour drive. Yogyakarta's cultural heritage and picturesque settings emit a distinctive charm that seldom fails its visitors. The 144 beautifully appointed rooms are reflecting the ambiance of bygone era wrapped in modern comfort facilities, enabling its occupant to celebrate a glorious past without losing the beauty of contemporary living. ... more   less
