Welcome to Duxton Reserve - Echoes of 19th century elegance reimagined in the historic heart of Singapore. Duxton Reserve is perfectly situated in the island city-state’s central district and the eclectic heart of Tanjong Pagar where business, socializing, dining and nightlife take center stage. Duxton Reserve unites a row of heritage shophouses that have been restored under the gifted hand of acclaimed British designer, Anouska Hempel. The original design of this Urban Redevelopment Authority Architectural Heritage Awarded building features a diverse mix of Chinese, Malay and European elements. Guests are in for an eccentric elegant surprise as they enter the hotel that features large golden fans and strong hues of black, gold and yellow, layered with Oriental screens and calligraphy wallpaper from Anouska’s personal collection. It houses the glamorous bar Anouska’s as well as the iconic modern Chinese restaurant Yellow Pot.

Me and my wife stayed at this boutique hotel for 37 days to rack up elite nights. I booked the MyPoshPad option and was rewarded with a free room upgrade on checkin because of my Bonvoy Elite status (Titanium). Hence value for money, considering the delectable breakfast served. The MyPoshPad option allowed me four laundry items per day, reduced pricing and one free breakfast. My elite status afforded me another free breakfast. All staff members were delightful. Robee and Patricia made us feel exceptionally welcomed. Robee always has a spring in her step and was very easy to talk with (through face mask, of course). Patricia was always trilled to see us, and would call out my name. The room was beautiful. We got a slightly smaller duplex, but it felt spacious with the high ceiling and windows. The color theme was black with whites and yellows. Lighting was romantic. One large TV on the lower level and another on the upper level. Standup shower which was fine with us. Lots of power and USB outlets. The spiral staircase was a draw. I would have my video calls with it as a backdrop, and many would ask if it was real, upon which I would grab onto the steps to show them that they were. The cheapest parking around is along the road. If you use the Parking App, it costs $20 from 0830 to 2230 (free overnight) - it could cost more if you decide to break up the parking times. There’s loads of restaurants and eateries to choose from in the vicinity. Almost like being on a trip. There’s also a 7-11 that literally opens 7-11 opposite the hotel. Overall, it was a pleasant, enjoyable and romantic stay. I would recommend it for couples and business travelers who do not need a gym or pool. It gets busy during the weekends.

Fantastic hotel stay. Got a complimentary room upgrade from 3rd party booking site. Loved the colour theme and ambience of the entire hotel. Staff were also very welcoming and had a complimentary birthday treat for my husband. Breakfast selection was great, did not have a hard time choosing what to have and restaurant wasn’t crowded. Downside was probably the parking, but it’s ok to just take a grab ride here anyway since Singapore isn’t too big to travel anyway.

We booked the Duxton for a long stay for 8 nights, and we were super impressed by the beautiful quirky boutique hotel and its warm team of staff members. We’ve read very nice reviews prior to checking in, but you need to actually be at the hotel itself to experience it personally. The hotel is very conveniently situated on Duxton Hill which is just about 5-10min away by foot to the nearest subway station (Tanjong Pagar). Along the way, there are endless restaurant and cafe options, with a small 7-11 just directly across the hotel entrance. So food is never a problem. Breakfast is complimentary for Platinum and above elite members, which is a very nice perk. Because I’m not vaccinated, I was asked to fill out a breakfast order form the evening before with the requested delivery time, and every morning, the very kind staff would deliver the breakfast to my door. Breakfast is quite impressive considering there’s an option of hot beverage, juice (my favourite item on the menu because their juices are freshly squeezed every morning and there is a mixture of combo detox juices to choose from such as apple/ginger/beetroot, raw juice which is a mixture of green veggies), bread basket, fresh platter of fruits, and your choice of an a la carte menu. We’ve read that the complimentary breakfast was only continental without warm items, so we were pleasantly surprised to find out that the breakfast selection was so vast! One hiccup though was that we remarked my allergy to mangoes, but they still served mangoes to me. It was a close call, but since my fiancé would inspect all the fruits first so the mangoes were caught by him before I consumed any. The only downside that I could think of about the property itself is the bathroom function and water pressure/temperature. I think most of the rooms, even the suites, don’t come with a bathtub. Even without the luxury of having a bathtub, which is important to me, the shower system is inconvenient with the space being semi open-space concept, meaning it does not have a door to keep the water from spraying out to the sink area, which is subsequently the same space as the toilet area. So the floor is almost always wet, which is annoying. Also, there’s no hot water to enjoy for long period of time. We took about less than 5 minutes of hot shower, then the hot water begins to wear out and you get lukewarm, then cold water. At first we thought it was just a one-off experience because the front desk staff told us that the property is leaking hot water due to high occupancy, but since we stayed for 8 nights, this issue we soon realized was a permanent thing. So we learned to take quick battle showers before the water turned cold. The staff are all super friendly and go out of their ways to help us though. It was my birthday on the day we checked out, and they surprised me with a small slice of cake which was delivered to my room along with my breakfast. At check out, Dahlia saw me taking photos of the cute energy stones at the lobby with positive words imprinted on them (like “Hope”, “Happiness”, “Strenght”, etc..) and she floated over to ask me to pick one as a souvenir. It was a very small gesture, but it means a lot to me. We loved the experience so much that we have booked another upcoming 9 nights stay again. This is definitely one of our favourite boutique hotels in Singapore!

As a Marriott platinum member, they were nice enough to upgrade me to their Pearl suite (with its pearly white room theme). The room is nicely spaced out with a chill area to relax. Staying in this hotel, one will be spoilt for choice in terms of F&B in the surrounding areas. Staff is very courteous and nice in general.

Pre-arrival – I was randomly auditing my upcoming stays about a month prior and this stay showed the Skylight Suite - a 5-tier upgrade! Check In – I arrived to an empty lobby on a weekday morning and didn’t see any staff. So I waited and one staff came out wheeling a guest’s luggage for check out. My upgrade to the Skylight Suite and late checkout of 4:00pm was confirmed. Room – My Skylight Suite (41SqM) was simply numbered “Room 1” and located right adjacent to the check in counter. My first impression of the room is…………..man, its dark. The space is cut out into first, a living area as you step in with a long table and sitting options on both sides. Next to this is the living area where an L-shaped sofa and an abundance of throw pillows sits with a large coffee table, all facing a TV of course. Placed near the TV are your complimentary bottled waters, Nespresso machine, kettle, and coffee cups for simple beverages. A set of Yellow Pot menu is also placed here for your browsing pleasure. The main bedroom area is a simple blockish layout of a 4-poster king bed facing a non-smart TV, alongside 1 bedside table with your in-house phone on it. Behind the bed is oddly a space of narrow corridor which is non-functional. The entrance to the smallish bathroom is located right beside your bed - the single sink sits in the middle offering limited countertop space. On one side of this is standing shower space, separated by a half panel. On the other side is a basic non-bidet toilet area. Apart from the dark interiors, I do feel that the property can be better maintained. At closer inspection, a lot of the dark wood interiors had scratches and random marks on them, the floors feels sticky in some spots, and especially the L-shaped sofa in the living room is rather sunken in and definitely has seen better days. For the OCDs, there also seems to be no thought in attempting to hide some dangling cables from TVs and lamps. Welcome Cocktails – I redeemed mine at Anouska’s Bar in the evening and the place was really sexy at night with the continuing black / gold decor – but of course with the “Bond Girl” thingy going on. Robbee was at her very welcoming best and made sure my cocktails were promptly delivered. I could pick any 2 from their Signature Cocktails selection which I thought was rather generous. Breakfast is served at Yellow Pot from 7:00am – 10:30am and a printed menu is laid out on the table. Guests are to pick one main of their choice and can add on most other things on the menu, with the exception of the breakfast cocktails and sides being chargeable. I picked the Lobster & Crab Omelette (really nice!), Breakfast Bakery Basket (hefty portion), Apple Lemon & Ginger Cold Pressed Juice (didn’t taste cold pressed), and Fresh Tropical Fruits (rare to see mango and starfruit!). Everything was good – superb quality breads which tasted house-made and I was particularly impressed by the effort to offer more than your regular run-of-the-mill fruits. Coffee was very strong too. Service – Dalia at check in was great and took her time with me even though there was another guest waiting to check in after me. Robbee at cocktails + breakfast were exemplary with her warm and welcoming demeanour and an absolute delight to interact with. Check Out – Seamlessly completed at 2pm on a weekday (had to run errands). Complete review and pics available on Satu Kosong Travel Blog
