Hotel 1887 is centrally located to allow easy exploration of all the Chinatown section of Singapore has to offer and is a great place to stay for that reason alone. It is close (walking distance) to Chinatown, Maxwell Rd Hawker Centre, Chinatown MRT, Clarke Quay, Chinatown Heritage Museum & other attractions. The hotel itself is historically significant as it was a popular Chinese opera theater when it was originally built in 1887. Whilst the room was small (just a room with an elevated bed area & tiny walk way and bathroom) it didn’t feel that way due to the fact that large French doors open out onto bustling, buzzing Chinatown Food Street below. I only stayed for 1 night (maybe the noise would become annoying after a while) but loved looking out over the large outdoor bar and shops below and watching people wander through the mall. It was nice to enjoy the breezes too. For 1 person it is perfect. I also enjoyed ordering a beer with a local friend at the Chinatown Food Street bar downstairs and being able to see up to my hotel room. The price was reasonable at 115 SGD. A free breakfast is included in the room rate at 18 Hours (the café downstairs). Whilst choice is limited and the quality of my eggs benedict was rather average you can’t complain as a free hot breakfast would not normally be included for this price. This is a minimalist budget hotel and bearing that in mind this was a very good hotel. The staff were friendly too and check in and check out was easy. Staff were happy to help with ordering cabs. And there are entry points to the hotel from both Trengganu St and Chinatown Food Street on the other side.

Before my trip to SG, I knew I wanted to stay in Chinatown. Hotel 1887 was my choice and apart from it being a bit pricey and not completly soundproof (was on second floor and could hear the music when breakfast started ) the room was great. The staff was beyond my expectation, Jasmine and Sam helped me with everything I needed or wanted to know and gave me tips on what to do and see. The breakfast was good, many things to choose from. They also had some arcade games that you could play on level 2. They do have a bar but it was always closed, reason that I was given was that people prefered going to one of the many bars/restaurants in the area and spend the evenings there instead of the hotelbar. Now the location, it´s in the middle of Chinatown, close to the Heritage center and other things worth seeing (Check out the Tintin museum close by) and many sale tents and tailors in the area if u need new cloths lol. There was a food market street behind the hotel and it was always full from the morning to the night when they closed.

We stayed at the Hotel 1887 for 5 nights when we were in Singapore. The hotel was an Opera house and the room which are hotel rooms now used to be for people after the opera to smoke cigars. The hotel is in Chinatown right on the action with bars karaoke across the street but when you close your room balcony door you heard nothing. Now the room was so small and the bed was on an elevated platform which you had to climb up to get to it. For older couples it was really hard for me to get up...my husband had to pull me up everytime .Yikes Breakfast was good i must say that....

This is not backpacker hotel or hostel but BUDGET Hotel. Location is in the heart of Chinatown as we can walk from Chinatown MRT Station exit A within 5 minutes. Room is quite small but equipped with all basic needs. Breakfast is beyond our expectation with one main dish as a la carte with unlimited bread, coffee, tea, juice, etc. There are plenty of food stall and convenience stores........THIIS IS Chinatown. Easy to reach to Clark Quay by foot for 10 minutes. Friendly Staff. We can go anywhere by GRAB as very good price. Since location of this hotel can be reached by Temple Street or Smith Street, please be careful to locate pick-up point once you take GRAB. Highly recommended.
