This is a small hotel not too far from the centre of Singapore. It is fine for a stopover but not for staying any length of time as the room we had, described as Superior, was somewhat cramped with very little hanging space in the wardrobe. Plus points were the very friendly and helpful staff, excellent breakfast, clean room and free wifi all around the hotel. Make sure you ask for a room with a window as some are windowless.

We just recently stayed at Nostalgia Hotel for 4 nights. The rooms are small but efficient. There was a small desk and chair so the other person had to sit on the bed, but the beds were super comfortable. Room was clean and had all the necessary amenities...hair dryer, electric pot to heat water, room supplied each day with coffee, tea, water, ironing board and iron, safe, toiletries. We were out sightseeing each day so time spent in the room was nominal. Staff were always very helpful and polite. They have a nice little outdoor café attached to the lobby. This is where the breakfast is served. We had the "American" breakfast each day which was very filling and good. It is a nice place to sit and have a beverage after a long day sightseeing. The hotel is small and tucked away in a residential neighborhood. It is very convenient...short walking distance to 2 different metro stations. Buses pass right in front of the hotel as do the taxis. There are lots of trees and foliage. You don't feel that you are in a big city, but a short distance away you can be right in the heart of the action. I would definitely stay here again. The rates are very reasonable. It is a hidden gem in the orient.

A friend and I booked a room here after a personal recommendation and also reading the reviews here. As another guest has said, the TA reviews are spot on.

The Nostalgia Hotel is a lovely hotel, well-situated in Tiong Bahru; the staff are friendly and accommodating. Our room was small, however it was well-appointed and had everything we needed. It was clean, the beds were comfortable and the airconditioning was greatly appreciated!

We stayed for 8 nights. Our room was right next to the pool, but we didn't seem to hear much noise from it. Most of the noise was from tables and chairs being set out in the restaurant downstairs each morning. It didn't bother me (ear plugs!), however it did wake my friend.

The hotel was a great base from which to explore Singapore. We used the excellent public transport system (the MRT) to get around and the hotel almost halfway between Outram Station and Tiong Bahru Station. We walked to and from one of the stations every day. Because of the length of our stay, we bought a normal pass and topped it up, rather than a 3-day tourist pass. It was so easy to get around and see a lot by travelling on the MRT.

We also spent some time exploring Tiong Bahru. There are some good cafes here, a great little bookshop (Books Actually, with resident cats. They sell copies of 'i ate tiong bahru', written by a one-time resident. I wish I'd read it when we first got here!) and the hawker market is just up and across the road.

We were leaving late at night and so we left our luggage at the hotel after we checked out. When we returned, the lady at the desk kindly offered to let us freshen up at the hotel. We were going to walk to the station and catch a train to the airport, but we were tired after a day of walking around and so opted for a taxi. She called one up for us and also came outside to make sure it turned had up, as it was a busy night. We didn't catch her name, which is a shame as she made us feel very well-looked after. It was good way to end our time here.

All the staff are to commended on going above and beyond to ensure guests enjoy their stay, not only at the hotel, but also in Singapore.

I would recommend the Nostalgia to anyone visiting Singapore and I would stay here again. The only things I could be picky about would be the noise from downstairs and that the bathroom floor wasn't cleaned every time our room was made up, but these are minor details.

The hotel is a lovely little gem and the staff are friendly and helpful; the great service added to the enjoyment of our holiday. They've won a certificate of Excellence for at least two years in a row - it's easy to see why.

Stayed at this hotel recently for 2 weeks. The rooms are indeed small (I was in deluxe room), but extremely well appointed and clean. I found all the staff to be extremely helpful and polite - the service at Nostalgia is very good and housekeeping does great job too.

The only reason this hotel doesn't get 5 stars from me is because their in-room safe will not fit a 13 inch laptop (MacBook Pro in my case). This will probably not be of much concern to many guests, but my stay was a mix of work and pleasure and even though nothing happened to my laptop, I would have felt safer if I could put it away while out. WiFi and LAN are fast and efficient.

The area around the hotel seems to be trendy and there are two bus stops (BLK 55 and BLK 1) very close to the hotel. Tiong Bahru subway station is half a mile walk from the hotel. Many eateries around both budget (TB Market) and mid-range.
Never tried hotel food so can't comment about it.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend this hotel and stay again.

We arrived at Changi Airport after midnight, and went to the Hotel reservation desk. What attracted us to the Nostalgia was the almost unbelievable 8:00PM checkout available at no extra cost. That meant we had our room for the entire day before flying out at 7:30pm, two days later.

It's a 25 minute taxi ride from the airport to the Nostaglia. The taxi driver didn't know the hotel, 'cos it's only been open a few months, but he got us there no probs. Taxi fare was SG$25.

Even though we were arriving past one o'clock, we got a warm welcome from the concierge, and that was the story or our stay there. Don't think I've ever stayed at a hotel where the staff are so uniformly friendly and helpful. The rooms are not huge, but very nicely appointed, with plasma TVs mounted on the wall, quiet aircon, free wifi and spacious bathrooms. There's an open-air swimming pool on the terrace on the third floor, a great bar, and a good breakfast and dinner menu available which you eat on tables outside the front door in the shade (complete with portable air conditioners - out in the open! Probably the greatest waste of energy I've ever seen). They even had bowls of fresh apples outside each lift inside the hotel for the guests, which was a nice touch.

Just around the corner from the hotel is a fantastic food market. We went there on a Sunday morning to find hundreds of locals sitting at the tables, eating the food from the dozens of stalls. Lots of local and traditional fare there - seafood, pork and vegetarion rice and noodle dishes of every imaginable combination, and each prices around $SG3-4 per plate. But I'd steer clear of the pig's intestines on offer.

But the hotel was great - comfortable and friendly, and an easy 15 minute walk to Chinatown, and just a 10 minute walk to the MRT station, from where you can get to just about anywhere in Singapore. Highly recommended

The Hotel Nostalgia has become my favorite place to stay in Singapore, at least when I'm not staying on someone else's dime in one of the fancy city-center luxury hotels! Its austere exterior and budget prices hide what is otherwise one of the best small hotels on the island, though it's not for everyone -- if you're in town as a first-time tourist or plan to do business outside of the immediate area, you might want to consider the ups and downs. Read on for more...

LOCATION:
Hotel Nostalgia is located on Tiong Bahru road, at the corner of Seng Po, right around the corner from the hawker center. It's easy to get to by taxi or Uber, though arrival by other methods of public transportation will be more of a challenge. The hotel is about a 15-minute walk from the Outram Park MRT station with several major road-crossings, and about an equal distance from the Tiong Bahru station, through a more residential area. The exact location of the hotel is where Tiong Bahru and Outram roads become one-way thoroughfares, so while many buses serve the area of the hotel, some services are infrequent and it occasionally involves a long~ish round-about walk (or an exciting bout of jay-walking) to get to the bus stop you want on this busy one-way loop. Plan on taking taxis or Ubers for most purposes...

PROPERTY:
The hotel is a 4-storey building located on a corner lot. There is a spacious lobby and indoor bar on the first floor, and a small covered sidewalk restaurant outdoors that serves 3 meals a day. Rooms are on the top 3 floors, with the more expensive luxury rooms facing Tiong Bahru road, and the budget-priced rooms facing the narrow back alley. Despite its bustling location, the rooms are generally quiet. There is a small pool on the 3rd floor, with an outdoor patio. It's a pleasant place to relax during the day, if you have some down-time available.

ROOMS:
I've stayed here multiple times now, and while the rooms are pretty small, they are impeccably kept. Clean and cozy, each room features a small wardrobe/closet and a mini-bar area with a single-serve coffee brewer and coffee & tea provided complimentary. The beds are comfortable, though maybe a bit firm, but plenty of large fluffy pillows are provided. The bathrooms are a tad small, but elegantly appointed, and there has always been great water pressure with plenty of hot water available. There is a small desk in each room, and a flat-screen TV hanging on the wall. Ample power outlets are available. Free WiFi is available throughout the hotel, and there is also a wired connection in each room if you bring a laptop -- service was generally fast and reliable during my entire stay.

SERVICE:
The staff at the Hotel Nostalgia are absolutely incredible. Impeccably polite and extremely helpful at all hours of the day and night. Whether you're arriving at 1am from an Int'l flight, or need assistance making dinner reservations mid-day, the staff are friendly, helpful and ready to serve -- they really do make you feel welcome and at home.

OTHER:
While I'm normally traveling for business, Tiong Bahru's central location really is one of the best spots on the island, in my opinion. Even though it's not walking-distance to ANY of the major attractions, and can be challenging to use public transportation especially if the weather is foul, it's a quick taxi ride to downtown, Sentosa, the Botanic Gardens, Marina Bay, Chinatown, and just about anywhere else... being slightly outside of the city-center loop, it's even easy to get out to Jurong or up to the Zoo without hitting into much of the traffic that plagues Singapore. The only real challenge is heading INTO City Center during rush hour. Hence my caution in the introduction -- if you're doing business in City Center, or have children or plan to visit all of the tourist sites, the location and lack of walk-ability makes Tiong Bahru _just_ inconvenient enough to warrant a second thought. But for any other purpose, it's a great place to stay!

SUMMARY:
Overall, the price, comfort and convenience of this hotel makes it truly one of my favorite places to stay in Singapore. While the price can get high during popular times, as with all S'pore hotels, it's generally very fairly priced. Other hotels on the island with the same general rates can be a LOT more seedy and disreputable... Hotel Nostalgia takes pride in their property, and it shows. Highly recommended!

I stayed at the Nostalgia Hotel during two recent short and enjoyable stays in Singapore. For me some comfort, convenience, air conditioning and a pool are desirable when visiting Singapore and the Nostalgia Hotel is a winner for providing all that at a decent price.

Where the price of Nostalgia Hotel rooms start to rock is when you book non-refundable on advance purchase. I did that on booking.com and got a $150 rate for one night in a standard room. Non-refundable booking is hair-raising (booking.com is usually good for avoiding it!) but, hey, once I book my flights I am committed; I use travel insurance and, once my flights are locked in, I know the days when I need a room. It’s a boutique hotel with limited room numbers so I follow why they want their occupancy rate to be high. The non-refundable price is a chance for big saving on the 4-5 star establishments up the road if you have your heart set on a pool and you want to be near the sites.

Once you are in to the Nostalgia Hotel the next thing to mention is comfort. The hotel is quite well appointed but be aware that the cheaper rooms are small and a couple might find them tight as mentioned in the other posts. I was OK by myself and more than happy not to pay for spaciousness I didn’t use. Some of the cheaper rooms don’t have a window to the outside. It’s no big deal. I have been in both kinds of cheaper room in the Nostalgia Hotel and they were all fine and really quiet even later in the morning. The beds are comfortable and the voluminous pillows and cushions on the bed, as a nice touch, were more than I needed. Bathrooms are nice, modern, clean and functional again (with bathrobes – another nice touch) without waste of space.

The pool too is small but it works. It’s on a terrace with a view where you can enjoy the cool and watch local life go by.

I liked the locality Tiong Bahru, which is an older low-rise quarter of Singapore. It means “new cemetery”. Perhaps that is the nostalgia? There is a market near the hotel with local colour and hawker food. Around the corner in Eng Hoon St is the Tiong Bahru bakery where you can get a real cappuccino and a croissant. A reason why this quarter appealed as a base to me.

The hotel gives out a discount voucher for their own western-style al fresco restaurant but it is just thirty metres to the Sin Hoi Sai Seafood cafe in the alley way if you, like me, prefer some Singapore spice. Sin Hoi Sai is also al fresco and open all hours – I wish their mee goreng for $6 was near me.

Sin Hoi Sai is just behind the bus stop. Local buses are really good from the Nostalgia Hotel. Major points such as Orchard Road, the Marina and Chinatown, all close, are reachable from this bus stop. The friendly staff at the Nostalgia Hotel advises on which buses to catch to and from the stop – watch out, they differ. It’s true, in Singapore, that taxis are good value but riding on comfortable air conditioned buses for about $1 a trip is also hard to beat except when they get crowded. The MRT is 15 minutes walk away from the Nostalgia Hotel. For those familiar with Oyster, Myki and Opal cards, the ez link card for $12 is well worth it to avoid fumbling over cash for bus and MRT trips even on a short visit to Singapore.

I will be back.

Spent two nights here. Deluxe room with patio was great . Standard room would be too small. Great location in wonderful neighborhood and close to food court with 80 stalls of local cuisine. Close to subway. Friendly service. Drinks expensive but 7-11 one block down along with great cafe and restaurants . Half the price for this hotel versus others in same or slightly higher class. Small and quaint.

I stayed at the Nostalgia Hotel for three nights and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I used the $9 airport shuttle to reach the hotel. The desk staff and porter were friendly and helpful. Yes, the rooms are small but everything worked. The shower and toilet were clean and shampoo/conditioner was supplied. I had a couple of meals at the restaurant and both were good at a reasonable price. The local area has many shops and restaurants and the Tiong Bahru market. Due to the lack of parking in front of the hotel my tours departed from the Link hotel directly across the road (a pedestrian crossing is at the intersection). I would certainly consider staying at the Nostalgia if I visit Singapore again.
