Detailed Reviews
I spent 5 days in the "Green Kiwi Backpackers Hostel' and I can highly recommend it. Like stated in the title, it is clean and has comfortable beds (2m). They have a really nice breakfast and helpful and friendly staff. I think 15$ is good value for money, so I assigned 5/5 stars.

The staff at Green Kiwi Hostel will do anything in their power to make sure you had a comfortable stay under their watch. The bunk beds were well-organized, clean and maintained regularly by attentive workers. If you are one to hang out in the lobby, you will find great company among other travelers trying to seek out the best of what Singapore has to offer. Plus, the walls are covered with helpful information about the most popular botanical gardens and attractions throughout the country. No worries if you find yourself lacking map skills as staff are always willing to write you up the quickest, cheapest route. It helps that the hostel is seated in between two of the stops on the Lavender. Did I mention Twelve Cupcakes has a store just 1-2 blocks away? It's also within walking distance of Little India which is such a treat.

We accidentally stumbled upon the Green Kiwi Hostel and it was the best thing that could have happened. It's cheap to stay at, the beds are as comfy as that of a 5 star hotel, and the staff goes above and beyond to meet your every need. Breakfast is included (continental style) and it's less then a 5 min walk to the main subway line that takes you to all the main tourist destinations (5-10 min trip on the subway). There's free desktop computers and wifi and it has a pretty chill rooftop patio. The bathroom is modern and very clean. If you are lucky enough to stay here, you will enjoy your time in Singapore even more!

I visited Singapore with my friends for three days and a friend recommended this place. After we read some of the reviews online, we booked the private dorm for the 6 of us. It's affordable! And they got some great reviews from people who had stayed before. But how we have been fooled by those reviews.
The place is not THAT close from the MRT. We had to take a bus from the nearest MRT station to the hostel. It's clean, in general. But the staff were NOT friendly AT ALL to us. They were nice to the white tourists from Europe or America. But the staff was never nice to us Indonesian tourists. Even when we're leaving, we said 'thank you', the receptionists just ignored us.
There are better situated hostels, with much friendlier staff. Avoid this one.

Absolute rubbish. Staying at this place drastically tarnished my stay in Singapore. I opted to stay at this accommodation over the Fragrance Hotel which is normally more expensive but had a cheap offer. I chose the kiwi because of its glowing advertising (which turned out to be vastly different to reality). The mattress on the bunk bed was so thin I felt every spring dig into my back.
I'm in agony, my neck and back is so sore that I can barely move from the pain. The line up for the showers (all four of them shared between +30 guests) was as long as the wait for the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios. During one of those waits, I heard the person inside the cubicle blowing his nose furiously for several minutes. After he left and I went in there was the remains of what he had blown out of his nose all over the walls and floor of the shower. I understand that this is not the hostel's fault but this is the type of guests who frequent this establishment. The shower pressure was okay if only one shower was on, however once three or four were going it trickled to droplets. The floor of the toilets was constantly soaked requiring the need for thongs at all times. One of the staff sold us tickets to the Night Safari and gave us the incorrect pick up address, leaving us to run several blocks in order to find the bus. Also mid afternoon, my partner was woken up by staff demanding that she vacates the room for ten minutes so they could inspect the air-conditioner (without any prior notice). The roof top garden is a shambles- overgrown with broken furniture. Breakfast (two pieces of toast, some fruit and ordinary tea/coffee) wasn't too bad. The hostel is located in between two MRT stations, closest one being about 5 minute walk so it's fairly handy. If you're a backpacker on a tight budget and want to live in squalor then this place is for you. If you want to stay at a regular standard of living then spring for something a lot nicer because this place is garbage.

Have just had a week at the Green Kiwi and may I say what a great week it was, the place is not too far from 3 mrt stations all within 10 minutes walk, and on most bus routes, the staff are fantastically friendly especially Katie and Jong, IT is also very clean and have a cleaner that seems to be working all the time, the showers and toilets are unisex but this seems not to be a bother as the are safe and secure when here, they have a great roof terrace for chill out drinks at night, the staff are also very helpful and know all the places to go and transport to get, working internet is also good and also free as well the beds are very comfitable and the aircon works a treat, have read other reviews on the green kiwi and can honestly say that the people that wrote them are looking for champagne living on lager prices, i will definately be staying here again and will be telling people that this is the place to stay, what more could you want a cheap clean hostel near all the attractions, well done the owner and staff keep up the great work

This hostel isn't that close to the MRT station (more than 10mins) and there's a construction site opposite to the hostel which make my friend and I hate walking back and forth from the station to our hostel.
We stayed here for 3 nights and we are not pleased.
Once we entered the hostel, there came a very nasty smell from the shoe racks and at least 30 pairs are placed on the floor since the hostel doesn't allow people to wear shoes.
If there's such a policy, it'd be better to come up with a way to prevent the terrible odor.
Besides, we found it uncomfortable to sleep on sheets which are already pilly.
The bedsheets and pillow cases are too old that have to be changed for the sake of cleanliness and comfort.
There's only one thing that I like about this hostel - the breakfast.
It starts serving from 8am to 1pm which lasts longer than most of the hostels I've stayed in. Plus it offers a variety of spreads like peanut spreads, fruit jam, chocolate spread and kaya. As a toast lover, I never got tired of it and enjoyed it during my stay.

This hostel is great. The public areas are very clean and comfy. I love the terrace on the rooftop. Probably they cleaned it up after former reviews which said it's messy - good for me :) The dorms are a little bit dark as there is no light except for the small ones at every bed but very clean. So are the bathrooms. But there are way too many germans haha. The breakfast which is included in the roomrate consists a very strong, nice coffee and a lot of fruits. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.

This would have been just an average 2-3 star review if not for the fact I ended up paying $84 for 1 night in this poxy dump.
The reason I cut my stay short was that the beds and bathroom facilities were by far the worst I've ever come across (and I've backpacked a fair amount in my day).
If you are seriously, seriously on a budget then maybe you'd grin and bear it but the super cheap price just wasn't enough to convince me to stay for any more sleepless nights in a room that had the most wicked odour - hard to describe, but it wasn't just your typical backpacker dorm odour that smells vaguely of unhygienic travellers. The much-flogged "rooftop terrace" was disgusting, and was unsurprisingly empty when I went to check it out despite there being quite a lot of people staying.
Staff seemed friendly enough checking in, but on checking out early (and making it clear why I was leaving) AND despite there being absolutely NO TERMS AND CONDITIONS agreed to either on their site, during the booking or in the confirmation email they made me pay for all 4 nights despite only staying for one.
Given this is the first time I've ever left accommodation early (no other place has warranted it), I can't say for sure what other places policy is but given at no point did I agree to pay for an entire booking if I didn't stay the full period, I came away sleepless, smelly and feeling completely ripped off at paying what must have worked out to be the most expensive 1 night backpacker dorm stay in Singaporean history.
My advice would be to avoid this place and find somewhere else!!

i stayed at greenkiwi hostel located at 280a lavender, singapore two weeks ago, then i realised that the information about the hostel was all made up and contrary to what i have witnessed and experienced.
i have witnessed how rude the filipino staff were, i was taking my breakfast when they argued with one of the guests. the staff were shouting at the old male guest. so rude!!! i believe, customer is always right in whichever case specially if working in the hospitality industry.
to my observation, those female staff were only nice to younger male white guys and most of the time ignore the female guests. so a guy like me, i was very lucky to get their attention.
if you want to have your breakfast on the rooftop, i don't think you can take the view of the dog's poo. for three days i have stayed at the hostel, the rooftop had dog's poo. the owner of the dog, was the filipino staff, who apparently didn't take any responsiblity of clearing the poo. so disgusting to see and smell the poo and pee of the dog!!!
the lights at the toilet were not working, so at night, the toilet and shower area is dark.
i think, singapore's environment authority should look into the presence of dog in that hostel, which is considered public vicinity catering tourists, the health hazard that the dog's poo can bring to the tourists.
