Detailed Reviews
I have been to The Green Kiwi Hostel a couple of times. Was there when it was just starting out.
Katie - the Hostel Manager was the best staff ever! She was the lucky charm of the hostel. Never boring and always had a smile on her face. She took care of me when I had a major scratch on my leg due to a motorbike accident in Indonesia.
Other than that the hostel was always clean when she was there. I was even shocked one night, when I woke up to go to the toilet at 3am and she was there, cleaning all the toilet cubicles.
I asked her, if she ever does sleep (because, I noticed that she's always working 24/7) and why is she doing the dirty work, when I knew that they have a cleaning lady - she only replied, "Well, this hostel is my home and all of the guest are now my family and I want to keep it clean for all of you, my new found family" (for a backpacker like me, I was touched by what she have said)
I never saw her sleep, or maybe it was just me, but some other guest also asked her the exact same question.
By far, the hostel is okay. But the hostel's best asset was their staff, specially Katie.
It was close to the MRT stations and bus stops. And just a stone throw away to the food court and 711.
I would be staying there again, hoping that Katie would always be there to greet me with a smile...

Atmosphere: I have stayed at Green Kiwi twice each for a week. I met a lot of other solo travelers who became great friends, and we explored Singapore together. The best feature of this hostel is the roof deck, where you can find a group of people almost every night. It's each to grab a beer and join them.
Location: good. A 1 minute walk away from the bus stop and a five minute walk to either Boon King or Lavnder MRT (metro) stations. Boon King is closer. There isn't that much to do in the immediate area of the hostel, so, you'll take a bus/metro to most attractions. There is a public pool ($1) that is a short walk away. Check it out if you want to relax for a few hours.
Facilities: The facilities are standard for most good hostels (wifi, shared bathroom, AC in dorms, etc) The roof deck is where it's at!
Staff: Katie, Nesty,Thulasi, Rhea have been so helpful, in navigating Singapore, suggesting places to go, and always being there with a huge smile. :) The owner was helpful in allowing me to make adjustments to my reservation, which he wasn't required to do. I appreciated that.
Breakfast: (Unlimited toast w/ Jam, Peanut butter, Kaya, and/or butter), 5 pieces of fruit (dragon fruit, orange, watermelon), & Coffee or Tea. The coffee is amazing. Get a second cup anytime for only a dollar.
Dorm Rooms: standard bunk beds, rooms range from 10 person, 8 person, or 6 person. I've stayed in all three types of rooms, and would recommend the 6 person room if you are a light sleeper because it reduces the chance that you'll be rooming with someone who snores at night. Otherwise, there isn't a huge difference in the rooms. There can be a limited number of power outlets in the rooms, just ask the front desk for an additional power strip.

Good breakfast, friendly staff, really comfortable beds, very clean and modern, internet and rainforest showers. The could have done more with the terrace and the location is not the best (but all the hostels are in this area). We liked it there a lot.

Everyone is so lovely here! It's like a home away from home. The breakfast is great, fruit and toast etc, I feel so much healthier. I've come from Malaysia, no quality fresh coffee, and here they have it for breakfast, for free! The staff are really helpful if you need anything they will help, and they're just fun to hang out with. The bathrooms and bedrooms are all clean, and it's a very reasonable price. Love it. I actually would like to stay longer, just for the hostel!

For staying a couple of nights in Singapore, this is a good option for reasonable price. We stayed for four nights and that was ok as we didn't spend much time at the hostel. It's fairly easy to move around: green and purple line MRT stations about 10-15 minutes away. The value for the money comes from overall ok condition and air-conditioning!!
The double room is really small, so don't expect from it anything but sleeping. Shower room and toilet area could be better even though it's quite clean. Free internet and breakfast including toast and fruit are definetely plus. The friendliness of staff depends on who is behind the counter - one of them extremely friendly and another pretty much the opposite.
Two cockroaches seen in the middle of the night in the hallway - one big, one small; lights on all the time in the room. No bed bugs. Definitely a con was that housekeeping left all the keys of the rooms easily reachable for anyone almost every day, so keep your valuables with you!

This hostel got a very high rating on hostel world and tirpadvisor, especially for there very friendly staff. This is not what we experienced! The girl that was behind the reception during our stay of 2 nights was not friendly at all. Words like 'please' and 'thank you' she never used. One night she was having a private phone call for hours, while she was sitting behind the reception. You had to interrupt her for asking a question or to order a drink. Not professional at all!!
We booked a private room for 2 nights for 2 persons, which was very very small for the price we paid and it had a strange smell that not disappeared after opening the windows for hours.
Furthermore, they had a (friendly) dog walking around in the common areas, which I didn't like, because I have an allergy for dogs. If I would have known in advance that they had a dog I would not have booked that hostel. Better to make it clear in the description!
Breakfast and bathroom were good and the rooftop area is very nice.
Free use of computers and internet was nice, but internet connection was not working properly, which was annoying.
In general a quite ok hostel, but definitely overrated. So it did not fulfill to our high expectations!

since i found singapore quite expensive compared to other asian cities, having this hostel as an option was really great ;) best features for me were the hostel's accessibility to public transportation (bus stop just across the street and its between boon keng and lavender MRT, 2 different lines), their very friendly staff who are mostly filipino and the hostel's bathroom cleanliness - having shared bathrooms. the simple toast and fruit that came with the SG$21/bed/night was a plus too. i stayed in an all-female room for 6 and my room mates were very considerate... none of the noisy neighbors some talked about. oh and they do laundry for SG$8/load! and have free internet at their cozy "lobby" - another pluses ;)

This was our first experience with a dorm room, and it has been a great one. We stayed for 2 nights. Traffic can be noisy in the evening, so you might want to bring earplugs. But if you have been wandering the whole day, you are probably very tired! Breakfast was very nice, not the plain white toast, but wholeweat and as much as you want. We love Kaya!! Coffee was very good and the price for an extra cup is very reasonable (2 dollars). Bathroom was clean but very hot! Nice showers though! Within walking distance of Little India. Backpackerwise it is expensive, but probably one of the best in Singapore. Don't skip Singapore!! You can eat low-budget to keep your overall budget in balance!

the room we stayed in was good for a family of 9. The place was well- maintained, the staff is friendly and helpful. they serve good breakfast.. toast with plenty of fruits and a wide array of choices for toast spread.. i love the kaya spread, You can even take breakfast or have a late night cap at their rooftop. what makes the place even better is they provide free use of computers for easy net access. location is excellent too.. not so near the crowded areas of little india or chinatown but not quite far from entertainment and activities areas. accessible to two mrt stations.. if i may suggest, it would be much better if kiwi management have a phone number so we can contact them anytime. :)

Free if you stay the night!
for dorm room yes. It's almost impossible to find dorm room without shared bathroom
Yes! But remember to book for the date you depart china, for example if you fly today (23rd) and land 1am 24th, you need to book for 23rd :)
