While the Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre boasts an exceptional location near key attractions and public transport, some travelers have expressed disappointment with the compactness of the rooms, citing design and functionality constraints. Despite the praise for the comfortable beds and cleanliness of the rooms, the limited in-room features and modest amenities, such as the basic gym and pool, have impacted guests' perceptions of value. Service experiences vary, with both commendations for staff attentiveness and criticisms for organizational issues.

The hotel is brand new, and extremely well located next to Chinatown only a few minutes walk from the MRT, with endless eating and drinking options available in the surrounding streets. The staff were nice and friendly, but it did take over 20 minutes to check in as there was only one person on the front desk, and the queue of others waiting stretched across the lobby.

The intelligent building lifts are great, the AC in the room works really well, the wifi is fast, the view is amazing, and also the blockout curtains are great creating a dark and quiet environment at night. The room was very clean and nicely decorated, with a comfortable bed, although it's very high off the floor.

The bad points are that the room is ridiculously small, and the bathroom comically so. You have to remove the trash can from the bathroom in order to have a shower or use the toilet in the broom closet sized room. The basin is actually outside the room next to the room door. There's no available floor space to open luggage, you have to use the bed. There is no closet space, only a few hangers on a rail. I was lucky because I was travelling solo with only one case, but if there was more than one person in the room it would be near impossible.

I called room service to order an early breakfast for the next morning, but was told "I've just started my shift and there's no one here, you'll have to call back tomorrow morning" which I didn't as I was leaving early the next morning.

Overall it was a nice experience but they obviously have a few teething issues going on with staff and training. I think this place would be great for young backpackers who don't mind paying for a high end dormitory style room.

We stayed for 6 nights at the Mercure ICON and found it to be a pleasant, well located hotel.

We booked two rooms for my wife and I and our two boys aged 10 and 14.

We arrived at the hotel early on the morning of our first night having anticipated that we would not be able to check in until 3 pm. After registering, changing and leaving our bags we went for a walk and returned just after lunch to discover our rooms were ready.

The hotel does not have interconnecting rooms, but the rooms were opposite on the hallway and, given their age, the boys are quite independent.

The rooms are exceptionally small. We have visited Singapore 9 times and these were the smallest we have experience by far. The is no wardrobe and limited hanging space. There was nowhere to unpack to and nowhere to place our case. The bathroom was tiny to the point where I needed
to open the door to dry my back.

The basin was in the room proper. But with nowhere to hang a towel washing one’s hands necessitated dripping water across the floor.

The beds were very comfortable, however, and we slept very well. Housekeeping do a good job and the rooms were clean and efficiently made up each day.

We opted for an included daily breakfast when booking, which was good for the price. However, it was quite basic. The flow of people often was not optimal and there was often a wait for coffee.

The ICON is well located. Close to both China Town and Telok Ayer MRT. It is also located in the increasingly gentrified China Town and close to Lau Park Sat Pavillion. There is a small mall down the road and the river is within walking distance.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay. The staff were invariably helpful, happy and professional.

In a city like Singapore when booking hotels you compromise on location, room size, amenities or price. The Mercure ICON managed to balance most of these and we would stay again.

I was very unhappy with my stay at Mercure ICON Singapore. I have stayed in many Accor hotels and always find them very clean. The Mercure ICON was not clean. We changed rooms as our first room had hairs, dust and bits of food all over the floor and in the shower. Initially we were told someone would come to clean our room while we were out at dinner, but several hours later and at 11:30 pm no one had been when we returned. Our second room was marginally cleaner. We could not face queuing at reception again and decided to make do with flip flops. It is clear the rooms were not being swept or mopped. It’s is very disappointing as the hotel is not cheap and usually I only have good things to say about Accor hotels. I would not recommend as reading the reviews we were not the only guests to have a bad experience.

This hotel is in a very excellent location - in Chinatown and being so close to two subway stations (or MRT), it is so convenient to travel around the city.

Yes, the room may not be like those other “older” hotels with bigger rooms but then, hey why do I want to spend my time in the room when I want to explore the area.

I like how there is space below the bed to put my luggage and the bed is very comfortable.

I like how it is so easy to walk around Chinatown and enjoy the sights and sounds of the famous place, and also there are so many good food options.

The buffet restaurant, Chara serves delicious food and I liked their Japanese corner.

I wanted to eat at the pizza place but couldn’t get a table as it was full.

The hotel has a big pool, I heard it is around 40m.

Overall, this is a nice new hotel and I do not understand why so many gave it a low rating. If you are used to the older and bigger hotels, then this one is not for you. But if you want a hotel that’s fuss free yet not feel like those budget one, but the price is still very affordable and in a very good location, stay here.

Small room? No problem, it is comfortable. No point in having a big room when it is cold.

TL:DR - Avoid this hotel
This is apparently the largest Mercure in the world. Don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s also the best, because it’s far from it. This should be the world’s biggest Ibis Styles given the tiny room size and zoo-like common areas.
The room is barely big enough for the double bed - two adults travelling with a medium/large suitcase each would find the space exceptionally challenging. There’s no other furniture in the room, save a small swivel desk chair which wasn’t comfortable. The 85” TV on the wall was overkill for such a tiny space.
If you suffer from claustrophobia, DO NOT stay at this hotel. The toilet and shower are jammed into a literal water closet, which with the door closed would barely measure a two square meters. And the basin? That’s outside in the main room. There’s no closet, just a hanging rail, and I couldn’t see an iron let alone an ironing board.
There is just one restaurant at this hotel, and when I went for a late breakfast it resembled, frankly, a zoo. Guests were left to find tables for themselves amidst the chaos of guests going to and fro the buffet. I ended up leaving - the restaurant is simply too small for a hotel of the size/number of rooms.
Accor Plus members expecting a free drink - lower your expectations. The complimentary drink, available from the cafe in the very noisy lobby contains a choice of just one red or one white wine type, three mocktails or tea/coffee. It’s not an ambient location to enjoy a relaxing drink, either.
Location wise, the hotel is very near Chinatown and is between two MRT stations (Chinatown and Telok Ayer). There are lots of small bars and restaurants around the area so they more than compensate for the lack of same at the Mercure.
Would I stay here again? Despite being on the cheaper end of Singapore accommodation, I’d never book this hotel again. And I’d never recommend it to others either. The rooms are simply too small, the hotel too big and the feel not right. As someone who has stayed in my fair share of (larger) Ibis rooms around the world, I feel this hotel should be rebranded to better reflect what is actually on offer.
All in all, best avoided unless you enjoy going outside your room to turn yourself around.

I have been commuting to Singapore regularly for the last 20 years, and I truly think that this is one of the worst hotels I’ve ever stayed at. I was initially overjoyed when a Mercure hotel had opened literally 5 minutes walk away from my office in the CBD. Unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired.

Check-in was a miserable experience. I arrived at the hotel early and wanted to drop by bags. When approaching the front desk, one of the employees bluntly stated that check in was at 3pm without even looking up. Do I look like I was a teenager that doesnt know check in is at 3pm? When I asked him if I could keep my bags, he told me to proceed to the concierge outside the hotel, which I obliged. Bearing in mind that there are no signs that states that bags are to be kept by the concierge next to the drop off are, I’m curious if this is how all staff at Mercure were trained to speak?

Unfortunately for business travellers, the hotel has a very messy lift system operating, which, to their credit, uses the same kind of technology you find in office buildings. A few of the lifts broke down during my stay, and there was expectedly a big crowd trying to barrage into the lifts, with the concierge staff managing the situation like 5 year olds. They were raising voices to tell guests to not enter lifts until otherwise stated. Again, is this how Mercure trains its employees? While I understand that the hotel was popular amongst Chinese tourists and that communication was ultimately an issue, I’m wondering how difficult it is to implement a proper queue system, given that they have a large lobby. The best part about this whole ordeal was that NONE of the front desk or the senior management came to solve the issue, leaving the concierge staff to fend off angry Chinese tourists by themselves. I’m not sure whether I pity the tourists or the staff more, but one thing’s for sure, management is chaotic.

Contrary to what other reviews say, I had no issues with the room sizes. Having stayed at various Worldwide Hotels in Singapore, such as the V Hotels in Bencoolen and Lavender, I was actually pleasantly surprised by the room. What was not well received was that my toilet seat had a loose screw, and the water pressure from the showerhead was abysmal. Beyond that, there is hardly any fault with the rooms, and those complaining are likely first timers to Singapore.

With that being said, this stay definitely made a mark, being an Accor Platinum member for years. I truly dont think I’ve had a poorer experience than this stay, and perhaps the ironic part is that the issues are mostly management related. Its a shame, given that the hotel is new and is in an excellent location. To my fellow Accor members, trust me and book a stay at the Mondrian instead. You’ll thank me later.

Had a superlative experience with my family during our Singapore vacation, when we stayed at the Mercure Icon at City Centre (MICC). This is a brand new property, with all amenities that you could expect for the price you will be paying.

The rooms, as can be expected of a hotel in the heart of Singapore, are compact. There are no wardrobes, so be prepared to live out of your suitcases during your stay. Yes, whatever you have heard about the washbasin in the room, instead of in the bathrooms in Singapore hotels is true of MICC as well!

But there were so many pluses! The location is the first thing. There are fine dine and budget diners, right outside the MICC. China Town, with its budget and tasty eateries and budget souvenir shops, is right around the corner. Clarke Quay is walking distance away. The Singapore Flier, Marina Bay Sands, , Boat Quay and Little India are short cab/bus/MRT rides away!

The hotel provided a free wheelchair for my aged mother for the entire stay. It would have cost us SD 50 to rent one for a week otherwise. Being Indians, we needed a bidet (read, toilet jet) and they promptly fixed us one. On days when my mother was not up to joining us during the day, we felt she was in safe hands with the hotel staff. We could pre-order a lunch for her before we left for our sightseeing trip.

I thought Abby and Sandra, at the hotel reception area, Kalai in the restaurant, and Sharwin & Pravin at the concierge were exceptional professionals and the hotel as well it's guests were well served by their prompt action and courteous conduct! Thank you all five!

I would heartily recommend the Mercure Icon at City Centre to all visiting Singapore for vacation or work.

I went here for a 1 day staycation. The room was small, especially the toilet & bath area and I find it difficult to close the bath area door due to the small capacity of space.

Reception said restaurant will give discount for heartists member. Additionally, the reception didn't mention or guide how to use the lift. Every guest was struggling with the lift. Guest are telling one another how to use the lift instead since it's more high tech & uncommon in hotels.

Restaurant also don't know about heartists discount, felt like there was no coordination between reception & restaurant team.
I ate dinner and they gave 25% off but the next morning, I came and had a plus 1 with me, so breakfast 2 pax should be given 50% discount for heartists, they didn't give me the discount and also didn't get the ALL points as well.
Mostly, all restaurants open at 5:30 pm, but Chara Brasserie dinner buffet opens at 6 pm. I was waiting until 6 pm, but door was still not open. They opened at 6:15pm. All of the staff were not active in serving the guests and I feel not welcome to enjoy my buffet dinner but I can't deny food was nice, dinner buffet & breakfast.
The hotel does not look like it is under the Accor group. I was not satisfied to stay at that hotel. I didn't receive the trust you survey from email either.

We stayed here on the way back from a trip from Europe for a couple of nights/few days. Check in was easy, and we paid a bit extra to get early check in, which was a simple process. The hotel made a mistake in forgetting to process my Accor credit, and I didn't even realised. I was pleasantly surprised when a staff member came to my room, advising me they had refunded me the difference because of the error.

The rooms are decent in size, definitely much bigger than people on here are complaining about. They are bigger than most of the hotels you will book in Europe, and there is plenty of space for bags. My wife and I had 2 large cases, and 3 cabin bags, and not once did we feel like we had no room. There is a large bench which will fit 2 bags, and plenty of space near the window for other cases, plus space below cabinets to store bags. The bathroom is a decent size, and I don't have an issue with where the sink is located. They have a drinks fridge and filtered water in the room which is nice.

The location is incredible, close to Chinatown MRT and another one. It took us 10 mins to get to Boat Quay by foot, and 5 mins to get to Satay Street. There is also lots of bars just up the street. It looks like they are constructing an underpass at the hotel to an MRT station too!

We will definitely return again in the future, and bring family next time.

The positive comments around great location are irrelevant given it’s Singapore - a compact , walkable city , stated by many to have the best transport links for any city globally.

The room is tiny , it’s actually beyond small and very cheap looking . I was lucky to be traveling on business alone - there is no way under any circumstance where 2 people traveling could stay here . If I had been with my wife we would have left immediately. By some distance the smallest and most uncomfortable room I have stayed in for decades.

I have worked offshore and stayed in better more spacious cabins - actually a ship cabin is good description for it . The sink next to bed reminds me of cheap bed and breakfast circa Blackpool 1990.

My view is that the business model for this hotel has been pitched wrong. It’s not 4 star business hotel , I suspect in future this will very much be a 3 star tourist/budget hotel - and the prices will need to reflect that as will the clientele they can attract . I think I will bookmark this for future reference to see how it develops.

There is no joy in giving such a critical review - for anyone visiting Singapore - there are many more comfortable, spacious and credible 4 star options available for the same price . I would avoid this hotel at all costs . Don’t worry about location - transport links are fantastic !!
