The Mercure Icon Singapore City Centre offers an atmosphere that blends modern amenities with stylish designs, though some guests have called out the compactness of rooms and occasional noise disturbances. Service at the hotel gets mixed reviews, with staff interactions ranging from exceptional to disappointing. While the cleanliness is generally praised, there have been some concerns over inconsistent housekeeping.
Its central location is a highlight for guests, providing easy access to Chinatown and MRT stations. However, the value is questioned by those who find the rooms and bathrooms uncomfortably small. Amenities like the pool are appreciated, but the basic offerings in the small rooms receive criticism.

The good: - The location is probably as good as it gets for sightseeing in Singapore: central tourist sights are within walking distance, and for the other places there is an MRT station closeby and most of them are just a few stations away. - The exteriors of the building, the inside of the hotel and the rooms look quite new throughout. - Very nice swimming pool which is of pretty large size for a 4 stars urban hotel and offers a very nice city view while swimming or relaxing in there (it is located on a second floor terrace on the side the the hotel. with a good sight of downtown high rise buildings which are lit-up in the evening). - Courteous and helpful staff (special shoutout for Kyroz - more on this below).
Something which isn’t really issues but to have in mind: - the rooms are very small for an American or even European 4 stars standard with just enough space to move around the bed and a small built-in desk. We still found the value for money pretty good given the price we paid and were happy with this compromise on room size to stay in a very central location, in new hotel, at a reasonable price. But just make sure you have the right expectation about the room size (if you have visited central Tokyo or Hong-Kong, this is the same type of compromise which is also available in those places to keep room prices affordable).
The not so good (but the issue was addressed by the staff): - On one side of the hotel, rooms are facing a street which got pretty noisy while we were staying there (there was a bar playing loud rock music until around 11.30PM, and there are also a mosque and an Hindu temple which between the two started to do some singing and ringing bells around 5.30AM and kept doing it for pretty prolonged period). While the hotel obviously can’t control the outdoor noise level, I would suggest there is an opportunity to improve sound proofing for lower floor rooms facing this street. - However, it must be noted that Kyroz at the customer service desk took this on board immediately when we explained our issue and swiftly got us another room in a different location and without any noise issue, also offering to get someone to assist with moving our belongings. So while we initially had an issue, this is not negatively reflected in my rating as it was fully resolved and on the plus side this was an opportunity for the hotel team to demonstrate that they take good guest experience seriously.

The second time I came to Singapore, the hotel I had chosen was much bigger than this, but the price of Nae Ho's check was at least 3k➕, and there was no triple room I wanted (with my parents, I didn't want to live apart and it was hard to communicate). They have a lot of hotel rooms, check-in services are in Chinese, very friendly for parents who can't speak English; prices are a lot cheaper than before, booked two nights, triple room does not include 1.1k in the morning, 1.5k in the morning, breakfast is average, it is recommended to eat outside; the room is small, but for business or just sleep out of the house enough; sleep is quiet and comfortable, travel is convenient, subway attractions are within easy reach; Zhang Fuhai who cleans up our room makes us also feel gracious, hope he can get better and better in Singapore! 💗 who would recommend a hotel to a friend around them

This hotel is in a very excellent location - in Chinatown and being so close to two subway stations (or MRT), it is so convenient to travel around the city.
Yes, the room may not be like those other “older” hotels with bigger rooms but then, hey why do I want to spend my time in the room when I want to explore the area.
I like how there is space below the bed to put my luggage and the bed is very comfortable.
I like how it is so easy to walk around Chinatown and enjoy the sights and sounds of the famous place, and also there are so many good food options.
The buffet restaurant, Chara serves delicious food and I liked their Japanese corner.
I wanted to eat at the pizza place but couldn’t get a table as it was full.
The hotel has a big pool, I heard it is around 40m.
Overall, this is a nice new hotel and I do not understand why so many gave it a low rating. If you are used to the older and bigger hotels, then this one is not for you. But if you want a hotel that’s fuss free yet not feel like those budget one, but the price is still very affordable and in a very good location, stay here.
Small room? No problem, it is comfortable. No point in having a big room when it is cold.

We had a 9 day stay at this property. Great foyer vibe on arrival ( with Gordon and Iqbal being incredibly helpful) but the room - guests of smaller stature or single travelers might appreciate but how can Mercure put their brand to these tiny room - they are an embarrassment to the Accor name. Take your morning calisthenics in the lavatory -reaching behind your head (yep, picture it as you read on) for the toilet paper which can be followed by a shower in the tiniest cubicle experienced in any hotel we have stayed at in the world. Saving grace - the beds are supremely comfortable and allow for a good sleep for us. Pillows are heavenly - 5 star. Breakfast - standard buffet fare - 3 star - But let down by the cost of the evening buffet - tried once only - advertised at sgd68- but billed at sgd98 per person (thank heavens for Accor Advantage Plus - pay 2 for one) - explanation “oh this is the Christmas Buffet” - Mercure if you want to provide a service it might help if you advertise it (as we were shown the newly minted advert next morning on the electronic notice board - consumer rights don’t exist in Mercure’s vocabulary) - Absolutely NO Stars for that fiasco…….The price 3 stars cos - we got what we paid for on an Accor special. Sorry Mercure Icon but we simply can’t stay at your facility again.

I stayed here for work, as it was booked by my office. Unfortunately this is the most pathetic hotel I have ever stayed in South East Asia, I have even stayed in 3 stars hotel but they were much better.
There are 3 types of issues with the hotel
1. Structural 2. Housekeeping 3. shortage of staff
1. The hotel is weirdly designed the washbasin is in the room and not in the toilet. The toilet is the smallest I have ever been to . The shower cabinet is so small that you will hurt your elbows multiple times while showering. If you need to wash your hands after using the toilet you have to go out and wash in the washbasin.
The washbasin area has very less space for you to keep your stuff around it and not even a towel hanger .
There is no wardrobe in the room just some hangers hanged in open, not enough space if one is staying for 4-5 days. Just one drawer. Even the side table next to bed has no drawers.
2. The housekeeping is the worst part of this hotel, used cups are never cleaned and everyday you have to call at receptionand that takes 30 mins to get a clean cup for tea, the tea sachets are not refilled once used , the dust is never cleaned even the kettle has dust over it for last 5 days and no one cleans it.
The table has tea stain marks , the washbasin is never cleaned the 1 drop of lotion I dropped on day 1 is still there on day 5.
I didnt use the TV but it has dust over it showing it has never been cleaned.
It is on mercy of housekeeping staff which day you get the foot mat towel , shower cap etc
And if you have to call for anything from reception it takes 30 mins.
The person who had to give me cup everyday came to door and shouted why do you ask for a cup everyday.
3. There is just shortage of staff in the hotel. In breakfast the tables are not cleaned even after repeated requests.
At reception the staff is very rude even if you have to ask for a small information you are asked to be in the queue of check in check out which could be 10 people long

Excellent location, very safe and secure environs. Short walking distance from MRT stations. Also, there are numerous restaurants within walking distance. Fast checkin and superfast checkout! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The breakfast soread (included in our room tariff) was simply awesome with variations over the five days we stayed there. The room we stayed in - deluxe double+single - was quite small, including the washroom, but very neat and clean, and the housekeeping was of top quality. Will certainly stay there if I happen to visit Singapore again.

TL:DR - Avoid this hotel This is apparently the largest Mercure in the world. Don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s also the best, because it’s far from it. This should be the world’s biggest Ibis Styles given the tiny room size and zoo-like common areas. The room is barely big enough for the double bed - two adults travelling with a medium/large suitcase each would find the space exceptionally challenging. There’s no other furniture in the room, save a small swivel desk chair which wasn’t comfortable. The 85” TV on the wall was overkill for such a tiny space. If you suffer from claustrophobia, DO NOT stay at this hotel. The toilet and shower are jammed into a literal water closet, which with the door closed would barely measure a two square meters. And the basin? That’s outside in the main room. There’s no closet, just a hanging rail, and I couldn’t see an iron let alone an ironing board. There is just one restaurant at this hotel, and when I went for a late breakfast it resembled, frankly, a zoo. Guests were left to find tables for themselves amidst the chaos of guests going to and fro the buffet. I ended up leaving - the restaurant is simply too small for a hotel of the size/number of rooms. Accor Plus members expecting a free drink - lower your expectations. The complimentary drink, available from the cafe in the very noisy lobby contains a choice of just one red or one white wine type, three mocktails or tea/coffee. It’s not an ambient location to enjoy a relaxing drink, either. Location wise, the hotel is very near Chinatown and is between two MRT stations (Chinatown and Telok Ayer). There are lots of small bars and restaurants around the area so they more than compensate for the lack of same at the Mercure. Would I stay here again? Despite being on the cheaper end of Singapore accommodation, I’d never book this hotel again. And I’d never recommend it to others either. The rooms are simply too small, the hotel too big and the feel not right. As someone who has stayed in my fair share of (larger) Ibis rooms around the world, I feel this hotel should be rebranded to better reflect what is actually on offer. All in all, best avoided unless you enjoy going outside your room to turn yourself around.

The hotel is brand new, and extremely well located next to Chinatown only a few minutes walk from the MRT, with endless eating and drinking options available in the surrounding streets. The staff were nice and friendly, but it did take over 20 minutes to check in as there was only one person on the front desk, and the queue of others waiting stretched across the lobby.
The intelligent building lifts are great, the AC in the room works really well, the wifi is fast, the view is amazing, and also the blockout curtains are great creating a dark and quiet environment at night. The room was very clean and nicely decorated, with a comfortable bed, although it's very high off the floor.
The bad points are that the room is ridiculously small, and the bathroom comically so. You have to remove the trash can from the bathroom in order to have a shower or use the toilet in the broom closet sized room. The basin is actually outside the room next to the room door. There's no available floor space to open luggage, you have to use the bed. There is no closet space, only a few hangers on a rail. I was lucky because I was travelling solo with only one case, but if there was more than one person in the room it would be near impossible.
I called room service to order an early breakfast for the next morning, but was told "I've just started my shift and there's no one here, you'll have to call back tomorrow morning" which I didn't as I was leaving early the next morning.
Overall it was a nice experience but they obviously have a few teething issues going on with staff and training. I think this place would be great for young backpackers who don't mind paying for a high end dormitory style room.

From checking in, the staff at the counter are very cute. We stayed here for 3 nights. The room is very clean. The bed is soft. The cleaning staff is very attentive to the details of the cleanliness of the room. The hotel uses an AI system to remember the details of the floor we are on by tapping the key card once. It will tell you which elevator. When you enter, you don't have to tap because the AI will take care of it for you. It is very modern. Until we don't feel like changing hotels. So we booked another 3 days and luckily we met the same staff at the counter. Smiling, cheerful, very good service. Until we had to ask for her name (K.FAJR) Very good service 💯❤️🙏

The location is top: near 2 metro stations including China Town and of course China town is just around the corner so that is very convenient! We had walked about 25 minutes to De Merlion.
Communication: very poor! I had emailed the hotel a few days before my arrival if I could extend a night but had no response at all! Really customer friendly that is!! So I had to make a Reservation with a little higher price.
Room: Huge big building with squeaky small room with the view to very tall buildings. The room was clean. Standard power outlets are provided in the room so you do not need to bring a special adapter. The breakfast: not really extensive, I would other time just not order breakfast.. What I find unfortunate is the restaurant: after 21h you can not order food to your room, you must come to the restaurant if you want to eat something. With a few downsides I would probably book this hotel again later if I go to Singapore because I think the location is top! (Near Things to do, easy to get to the airport by metro and lots of restaurants/shops/mall nearby).
