My fears of having to stay in a hotel undergoing extensive renovations were first allayed by a pre-check-in call (never had that before!) and then by the friendly staff at check-in. I was assured that my request for a room with a bathtub would be met and that they've notes that our 4D3N stay was to celebrate my wife's birthday and our wedding anniversary. Ms Kana Narai made check-in a breeze and I certainly enjoyed the pleasant conversation as she completed the documentation and handed us our keys very quickly. Having read earlier reviews, we were prepared to "get lost" or wait a while for check-in. While both were unfounded, hotel guests will have to walk some way to get to the lobby or rooms. We were very happy with our room on the high floor and found it a quiet sanctuary from the hustle of traffic or the noise of the renovation. While it's an older hotel, the room looked newly renovated, clean and spacious, with a king bed, writing desk and a 2-seater couch. Enjoyed our soaks in the tub and also the strong water pressure from the shower. Our request for firmer pillows was promptly addressed and kudos to the staff who had the room well cleaned and done up each morning. While we did appreciate the hotel's gift of a cake to celebrate my wife's birthday, it was handed to us soon after we got the room, and not on the actual day two days later, a fact I had actually highlighted during the pre-check-in call and at check-in. The other features we would have appreciated are powerpoints and usb ports by the bed. They were only located at the desk and along the wall further from the bed. All in all, we enjoyed our short break at Mandarin Orchard.

Positives 1. Awesome location in the heart of Orchard precinct 2. Nice hot water, even during peak hours Negatives 1. Hotel is undergoing a massive refurb, felt like a construction site 2. Definitely showing its age, no full length windows, old fashioned bathtub 3. Pillows weren't comfortable 4. Super crowded, can't fault the hotel, but there was a 1 hr wait just for check-in All in, I won't be back again

I was terribly shortchanged during my recent stay at Mandarin Orchard (20-23 Sept). I paid for 2 rooms on the Club floor. But the hotel is undergoing massive renovation and the wing that has the club floor is not available. But we were not told that when I booked the place . I wasn't even told that at check in. Instead they put us up in Premier rooms but i was charged Club floor prices. They would have gotten away with that if I had not been disturbed by constant drilling and knocking from the renovation works. By the third day, I had enough of being awakened (at 8 plus) to drilling sounds and I complained. They 'kindly' agreed to change my room. But hotel was packed so they told me my option was Premier room, on the floor of renovation, or superior deluxe (which is lower than premier). That was when I realized I wasn't staying in a Club floor room that I had paid for. When I expressed strong displeasure about being shortchanged, they told me they would waive the $100 that I had to pay for an extra bed every night for one of the two rooms. The hotel actually saw that offer as doing me a favor. I find it extremely disconcerting that not only did they not tell me that they were giving me a cheaper room from what I had paid for, they were going to charge me an additional $100 for an extra bed. When they waived that, they considered it a 'gesture of goodwill'. Let me post photos of that noisy 'Premier' room. It's very old, the bath tub is fraying, the writing table is badly stained, the carpet is worn out. Even the bedsheets and pillow cases are torn. There wasn't even a laundry bag!! It's by far the worst room I've stayed in a supposedly 5-star hotel. Then I'll post photos of the superior deluxe room. The difference is crazy. If you are considering a stay with the Mandarin Orchard, please ask them clearly what they are giving you and so hopefully, you will get your money worth.

Booked a 2 nights Deluxe Room to celebrate our wedding anniversary and my daughter's birthday, and we got free upgrade to Premium Room. 😊 Pros 1. When we first arrived Mandarin Orchard, the service was great! Only one person is allow to do the check-in at the lobby and the rest of the guests were asked to wait at another room. I think they did a good job on this as to prevent overcrowd at the lobby due to current pandemic. 2. As per our request, we were given high floor (level 34) with MBS view. I am so happy when receiving my room cards. 3. Got a complimentary chocolate cake 4. Complimentary parking 5. We requested in-room breakfast, foods were delicious and portion were good enough. Cons 1. When we entered our room, we got a kind of disappointed as the room looks rather old and dusty. 2. Toilet door lock was spoilt, cant lock. 3. The TV sensor was not good, we had to stand right infront of the TV to change channel. 🙄 4. Pillows too soft and bed too hard, got bodyache the next morning. 5. Need to charge $3 for some ice cube 6. They only got the one and only one bottle opener, need to opened our drink and returned immediately The next day, we wanted to shorten our stay as the room was so disappointing. So I called the duty manager. She offered to a change room for us, tried her best to solved our problem. But was downgraded to Superior Deluxe Twin Room at level 20. When the bell man came, he just came to pass us our room card, he did not even offer to help us carry our luggage to our new room even though he was pushing a bell cart. 😒 View was not as good as the previous room but room look newer. We were quite satified with it. And soon at night the problem arised. The aircon and the compressor outside our room window were so noisy. 🙉 We did not had a good sleep. Overall, this staycation is very disappointing. Hope Mandarin Orchard Hotel management can look into these matters and improve.
