Initially, my arrival at this SHN hotel was totally ruin by a very rude Duty Manager Kiran who rudely told me NOT to speak to him and NOT to speak to fellow traveller as I will give him COVID when I try to reason with him explaining that I was supposed to be sent to Shangrila to serve SHN with my husband. There was an equally awful cisco guard who challenge me to report her to her HQ at Paya Lebar. HALAL FOOD I lost 2 kgs in 5 days as I was experiencing diarrhoea and stomach ache as I was sensitive to the vegetable oil they use in cooking halal food - no pork, no lard. I also found out that SHN hotels can only serve Halal food as to why the ICA has decided to value / protect / kowtow to 14% of our minority group is not only a mystery but a torture to all of those who serve SHN because we only serve chicken, chicken and chicken for most of the meals. Chicken sausage, chicken ham, chicken pasta, chicken everything. Besides, everything arrive cold. It all change when I posted my review on google.!! A very nice lady by the name of Agnes calls me in my room every day, sometimes 2 to 3 times a day to chat with me and took care special care of my meals and making sure they arrive hot. Very quickly, my stomach-ache stopped, my anger toward the hotel disappeared. I start to empathise with them. She definitely saved the hotel and to a certain extend save my life. Pauline other duty manager as well as Song in her absence were being very helpful. I guess it is not the hotel’s fault that someone or some decision coming from Home Affairs / ICA had instructed that all SHN will have to serve halal food (for reasons not explained by the government). I did read in Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s book, One man’s View of the World about his views on certain minority in Singapore but I was surprises me that this wonderful country which pledge equality regardless of race, language or religion now force every single traveller serving SHN to eat halal food. In less than 6 years after the great man’s death, the government showed signs of cracks towards the soft power of this minority group and starting to kowtow to them. Each halal meal I ate send shivers down my spine of what this minority group had done to Europe and now slowly to Singapore. Despite of all the shortcomings of the hotel and everything that happened, Agnes has done her best to help me thru the difficult 14 days and I am truly grateful to her. The nice young chap who quietly witness how Kiran the arrogant duty manager treated me had given me a room with a million dollar view. I also found the 1 feet window ledge very useful and I could lay my yoga mat on it and when the morning sun comes in, I could do my yoga in the sun for my healthy dose of vitamin D Other plus point about this hotel is despite of the dark furniture is that the bed is huge and comfortable. The sink is strangely location just after the entrance but perfect for SHN as I could do a lot of my washing without going into the bathroom. They even gave a full size toothpaste and decent toothbrush. I can request for as many towels - hand towels, face towels from very obliging and kind housekeeping aunty Air-conditioning is a bit loud but adjustable for temperature. All in all, although this hotel is kind of old and has its limitations, no hotel is perfect but there is nothing that right customer service cannot fix. I left a big tip for Agnes and hope that by making known her success in rescuing this hotel will motivate others in the hotel to help the guests especially when they are serving a very difficult SHN and force fed with halal food.

I was on quarantine in Furama City Centre for 14 nights. I have a very specific vegetarian meal preference. While the hotel tried to help, they couldn’t and ended up giving me food that didn’t meet my vegetarian/ religious requirement. I made few complaints to the hotel duty manager about my food issues for initial 4-5 days. Kiran Kumar & Mayadevan came to my rescue. They wonderfully managed the complaint by patiently understanding my food preference & delivering my meals perfectly from day 6 onwards. They even surprised me with courtesy calls every now & then. Kudos to Kiran & Mayan for going the extra mile and showing best hospitality. You both will go places with your right attitude & customer centric mindset. Thanks,

Recently finished two week quarantine at the hotel. Therefore, cannot comment on the restaurants or amenities. What I can say is that the staff was exceptionally kind. Quarantine is hard but the Manager (Ms. ONG) and her staff really went out of their way to make the quarantine less difficult. They were very attentive and caring. When you travel- or confined to a room- its not the surroundings but the people who make it memorable. I highly commend the staff. I note others who have written reviews say the same thing. Someone really picked good people.

The hotel room was adequate . The Hotel in general is in need of a renovation . It’s looking a little tired . The service during my quarantine was very good . The concierge service which brought my food i had ordered to my room was prompt and efficient. Bed linen and towels were changed twice a week . They were left outside the door . There is no coffee maker in the room and the only beverages given are instant coffee and milo . The meals were prepared by an outside caterer and were really bad . I stopped the meals after 2 days and relied on food deliveries from outside . I did order from room service which was reasonably priced and good . Overall the stay was pleasant except for a burst hot water pipe on day 12 which lasted about 24 hours .

Served my 2 week SHN here in late December. I'll start with the positives. First, location was great. Furama is undoubtedly one of the oldest hotels here, but location is prime and easy for friends and family to drop off things and order Deliveroo from Chinatown. I had a view towards MB and that was great too. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. The moment I walked into lobby, you could smell a weird stench and tell that the entire building is in dire need of renovation. During check-in, the clerk working the front desk asked for $2000 pre-payment for my SHN stay, even though this was already prepaid weeks before my trip back! Only after arguing that I had already pre-paid the full amount, did she relent and said she will check with her supervisor afterwards and contact me if they need payment. There was far too much human interaction going on at check-in overall. Room: Old, dirty, worn, and supplied with the bare minimums -- one single bar of soap, one small bottle of shampoo, one towel, toothbrush set, five mini (330ml) bottles of water, and some very cheap snacks. After calling the concierge to ask for a hand towel and hand soap, the reply was "we don't give this to SHN guests, but I will make an exception for you." There were two single beds that I pushed together that weren't comfortable, but not uncomfortable either. Bottom line: The rooms looked nothing like the website and many pieces of furniture were removed. The TV had zero working channels the resolution and size made it effectively unwatchable. The room was mostly clean, but the carpets were disgusting, stained, and worn down. Service: As far as SHN service goes, I can't think of a hotel that has gone to such lengths to minimize service for guests. The 5 mini bottles of water that were provided on Day 0 lasted maybe a day and half. Every time I phoned concierge, the lady on the other end of line made every request sound like that I was bothering her and was asking her to do me a huge favor and could not wait to hang up the phone. The housekeeping staff, on the other hand, were excellent. There was one day where I wasn't served lunch and after calling to request a lunch box, her response was "lunch is already over, but we will do you a favor and bring you one up." No apology, nothing. Smoking: This deserves it's own section because I have never seen a hotel deal with smoking guests so incompetently. The moment I arrived, I noticed that there was a strong smell of cigarette smoking emanating from the air-con unit. Given that the entire hotel already smelled like mold, it was unsurprising that the room smelled as well. However, this was clearly cigarette smoke and not mold that likely came from a nearby room. To make a long story short, I spent the first 12 days in a room that had no ventilation, no fresh air, and no openable windows covered in smoke. The hotel's response? "We don't smell smoke and no one else has complained so we will loan you our can of air freshener."One day, when housekeeping came to deliver a hand towel, I asked if there was anything that could be done and she took one step into the room, took a whiff, and said she would bring the ionizer. Although this worked, the effect only lasted a few hours before the room became unbearably hot again before I turned on the a/c again. By the third day, the inpatient concierge lady transferred me to the front desk, where a gentleman promised that they would look into it and get back to me (because lo-and-behold, other guests had complained too), but no one ever got back to me or answered my request to change rooms. Food: Not much to write home about. I'll say everything was edible, but the lack of variety in the way foods were prepared (e.g. the same fish cooked in three different ways) meant that food delivery was crucial. Water was the biggest issue -- every meal came with a sugary soda or juice and no water was provided beyond the 5 mini-bottles provided at the start of the stay. Every time I asked for water, they would only bring up 2 mini-bottles max. Wifi: Unusable. I was getting 0.10-0.50Mbps on average. I ended up buying a Tourist Hi Card to use for my stay. Covid Precautions: No temperature taking, reporting, or checks during stay. ICA offers came by a few times to verify identity. TL;DR: If, by the stroke of luck you end up here, god speed to you. The management team and customer facing service staff need to be completely retrained to international standards, starting with very simple manners like please and thank you. I probably inhaled a pack's worth of second hand smoke staying here if the mold hadn't killed more than a few of my lung cells already. I survived, but this hotel is a disservice to Singapore and the image of Singapore.
