Wife and I decided spontaneously to do an overnight stay here. We had seen the outer and inner decor at the lobby of Kam Leng Hotel before and were intrigued by the character and heritage the hotel had (hence the 2 stars due to the potential) When we checked in, process was smooth. Upon entering the room, we realised a small but new Xiaomi TV and a spacious toilet. However, the room was extremely musty and dusty (like the kind of dust that hadnt been cleaned for months and years). We were unable to sleep throughout the night and checked out early as we kept feeling itchy, aircon kept turning cold and warm and the mustiness remained. Reading some reports, we also understood that the hotel had been used for some illegal businesses before. To conclude, you do get basic amenities and lodging for the price you pay, which is reasonable. As a couple or person looking for a comfortable night's stay then maybe not. A hotel full of potential but not well maintained at all. What a waste. …
The hotel was a bit old from the interior. But, the room was comfy- a little small.. but it was okay. There were heaps of food corner and cheap too, and you can do a little walk to Mustafa Centre (20 mins walk)
superior room upgrade to executive is $10. Executive is the best. 3 pairs of window (2 in the sleeping room, 1 in the toilet). Superior room is too small, have sewage smell. Superior room only have window in the bathroom, the room very smelly. Bed is stick to the wall. Very stuffy. This hotel executive room is better than noble super deluxe room. I booked 2 rooms for 4 nights stay at this hotel. Below are my comments during my stay. - One of the room's bed was sunken in in the middle, had to request for another room - room was dusty and musty and carpet was smelly - toilet & bathroom was dirty & mouldy. - soap dispenser in the bathroom (which was very mouldy) got stuck, had to remove the top of the dispenser to dislodge the nozzle in order to use it properly - most if not all TV channels don't have good video quality, and of the few channels that are clear, even less have good sound quality (most are just constant white noise) - one of the rooms was missing both the safe and the fridge - one of the room's hairdryer is barely in working condition. - they only provide shower gel , shampoo, toothbrush & toothpaste. No shower cap, cotton buds & sanitary bag provided.…
A short business trip, i always like to try new places to stay. This one i found when i was browsing the booking app, and fell in love with the interior, the setups, the lobby feel, modern yet classic, heritage feel all the way. I consider it to be a heritage boutique hotel. Highly instagrammable corners, if thats what you are into. :) must try!
The hotel is easy to locate. The receptionist is very accommodating. We arrived at the hotel early and we were able to leave our luggages at the counter. It made our strolling easy without the heavy luggages.
I read some reviews about the smell in the rooms and as it turns out, they were all true. My room smelt worse than a public lavatory. I asked front desk to do something about it. They said they would get housekeeping to put something down the drains for the smell. That didn't happen. I came soo close to just checking out and finding another hotel. Instead, I bought a heap of airfreshner to keep spraying the room. I then tried placing the bath towells over the bathroom drains, but even that didn't help much. It is a permanent smell that can't be shifted. Yes, the hotel is old, the sheets are threadbare, but the toilet smell is unforgivable. I wont be staying here again and cannot recommend this hotel. There are plenty of other good stays around Singapore at a good price. For travellers using public transport, there are plenty of buses across the road, but Jalan Besar is a one way street, so getting back to the hotel is a bit tricky and involves some walking, or MRT + Bus to get back. My best advice with this hotel is to save your money.…
One of cheap hotel I can found in Singapore, but I don't think it's a good choice. It's a renovated old hotel and had Instagramable photos on the internet, but the room didn't have good smell, it was wet and damp smell. The ambiance was dark and a little bit creepy in the corridor. Staff was friendly and helpful. But I was spending most of my days outside, so it was okay. The hotel located near bus stops and MRT station. Mini market located accros the hotel.
The answer is shabby. The hotel is a low price hotel (for Singapore) within walking distance to 3 subway stations. That's the best that can be said about this hotel. The rooms are dirty, small and dark. The windows are in fact shutters sealed shut. We moved from a room at the front of the building as it was so noisy. The room we were then given was at the back and much quieter but we had to pay a small upgrade fee. Overall the rooms and communal areas are dirty. Not untidy dirty.
Room was okay for two people for one night stay. It needs an upgrade. Old hotel with decent amenity. Wifi was reliable. A bit of walk to Bendemeer MRT station. 24 hours food court is nearby and also 7/11 mini market.
