We stayed in 2 different rooms in this hotel on our trip. We booked a 2 x single bed room (twin) for 5 days as part of our extensive holiday, but upon checkin they had no 2 x single bed rooms available and gave us room 233 which is on the street front with a queen bed and a couch. They did say if it doesn't work our for us, that we can swap at any time as soon as they had a twin room available. Room 233 was beautiful with the old facade shutters and windows still intact, but the windows and shutters didn't open. Our main problem with this room is that it is right above the karaoke bar and often smelt of cigarette smoke. My son slept on the couch, but after 2 nights we asked for a room with 2 single beds and within 20 minutes we were in room 211. Twin room at the back of the hotel facing the little lane with a view of the rear of the Peranakan houses behind the hotel which is so rich in architecture. We preferred room 211 as it has a window we can look out of. The only one problem is that the toilet has so little leg room between the seat and the shower screen that we sat sideways. Both rooms' shower heads fell out of the holder if you opened the shower too big so be careful. Both rooms have tea/coffeesugar/creamer and a small kettle and little fridge.
There is a supermarket (Giant) right next door to the right as you exit the lobby and we bought a few items such as instant noodles and milk and fruit to snack on. There are no forks included in the noodles so if you get noodles make sure you have a fork or chopsticks to eat them with. The staff were great, and I know some reviewers have complained that no one helped them with their baggage, but we hauled our bags through the UK and multiple airports and it was no problem for us wheeling them up the lift.
The aircon and wifi was excellent. The toiletries were sufficient and they kept on bringing more even though we didn't use it all. We got 2 x small waters each day.
The bus (number 16) is just down the road to the left (2 minutes' walk) and we took that to the city or to the MRT Dakota station. 112 Katong is the bigger shopping centre about 9 minutes' walk to the left with BreadTalk, Toast Box, Starbucks, grocery store etc. Do visit "We The People" store on the second floor for Crowdfunding articles to buy/support.
We will definitely stay at Venue Hotel again if we need a bed in Singapore.
**PHOTOS ATTACHED - some of room 211 and some of 233 - please check description to see which room it refers to.

I was staying in another hotel nearby, and walked in because the lobby looked really pretty. The receptionist (Puteri?) was incredibly warm and welcoming and showed me the rooms and rates. She said she'd give me an upgrade if I decided to book. There wasn't any hard sell, and I left saying I'd think about it. I don't think they expected me back. But when I came back a couple days later to book a room, a different and equally nice receptionist (Zilah) remembered, and actually upgraded me to a better room. That's service. Oh, and when I asked about check out times, the other desk clerk volunteered for late check-out without any prompting. In general the staff seem very able to anticipate guest needs, not something common for hotels in this price range.
About the rooms itself - they're small but neat, pretty and comfortable. Everything you need is there, and quite well thought out. It's a budget hotel with the looks and service of a much more expensive place. Location is great too for exploring the Joo Chiat area with lots of good food nearby, and maybe 20min walk to the beach. I'd come back again for a staycation!

Location smack at the middle of joo chiat road so convenient to go to places of interest, as we are a family of 4 travelling with my elderly mother. My mother need to use the toilet and we are near to another Venue Hotel , Venue Hotel at Lily we asked if we could used their toilet and the staff so kindly let my mother use the toilet after checking our access card that we have booked their sister hotel at Venue 305 Joo Chiat Road. Staff are really great, we were given early check in on Fri 9 Apr 2021 for 2 rooms. and late check out at 1pm. Want to pat the great staff mainly Angie, Puteri Adrian and another 2 staff at the counter on different timing and dates which we did not have their names. Great job for letting us fill welcome. We requested for high floor and Angie gave us that - the room was so quiet to have a good night sleep the air con working very well for hot weather during our stay. There were quilt and it kept us warm with the air con on. the water for shower is very powerful and warm throughout. Very happy with faciliites and stay .. Great job!!!

It was a pleasant stay throughout my 5 days until the last night. Was very disappointed by the Front Office staff by the name of Angel. I had a guest who i invited for a supper around 10.30pm, she stopped and not allow them from entering the hotel room. Since my guest came all the way to visit me, we assured her that we will not cause any disturb to the other hotel guest and will leave as soon as they are done with supper.

No negotiation can be made, and she told me that if I couldn’t accept it, she will check me out from the hotel that very night.

I was shocked by that statement and when she is behaving very rudely and unprofessional by threatening me in such a way.

I really hope that the management of Venue hotel can look into this matter and ensure she goes through basic customer service atleast.

It was a total disappointment

Everything was fairly clean. Linen was clean but not spotless and surfaces including mirrors could use some more deep cleaning however, it clean enough to relax in. The room was on the smaller side but was perfect for our one night stay. We checked in at 04:30 we were allowed to have a check out at 16:00 w/o us having to request it and were able to extend it to 18:00 at an additional small fee. The service and hospitality of the staff was great informing us on expected costs etc. Thank you Joseph.

Stayed here several times because of location, consistently friendly front desk staff. Was attended to by Ms Puteri and Mr. Wee on this visit. Always a delight to see their smiling faces and offer to help when asked .

If you are willing to put up with a cramped windowless room because you only need a place to shower and sleep in an air-conditioned room, then it's fine for a short stay at this hotel.

Be sure to ask for a room that is quiet as the sound of running water from the toilet and shower facilities in the room above you can disturb your sleep. Expect your standard room to be pitched dark and the toilet floor to be flooded whenever you shower.

For any budget traveller willing to put up with some inconveniences, this hotel is okay for short stays.

In fairness we did book a room on new years eve so everywhere was expensive in Singapore. The room was an internal and had no external windows, it was cramped but the bathroom was a good size. The shower head was broken and there was a piece of building rubbish under the bed stand, it must have been there since it was refurbished. If there is building rubbish still laying around 2 or 3 years later then you have to doubt the cleanliness. Lobby was nice and the location great. Over priced though.

Venue Hotel Joo Chiat is a place you stay at to have a room to take a shower and enjoy a good night's sleep.

Despite the tight room space, this hotel offers complimentary mineral water, a water boiler, room safe and a rack to hang your clothes, free WiFi and a reasonable good size TV.

The other plus points are:
- good F&B choices along JC Road,
bus connectivity (#16, 16M and 33)
- a short 10 min walk to bustling East Coast Road and Katong I12 Mall.

Last but not least, Venue's helpful front desk staff - Mr. Davin and Ms Puteri - whom I often encounter in my regular stay at Venue , are always cheerful and will offer you help and information whenever I need it. Just ask to tap on their local knowledge.

I will be back!!

We took a taxi and had him come back for our return. I think it was $30.00. We found the rapid transit easy to use but the closest station is a 25-30 minute walk. We found the bus system a little confusing but we didn’t try very hard to use it.
