I travel a lot with business and very occasionally you find a hotel that feels like you are coming home this is it! Special call-out for Jocelyn on reception, incredible service and support! Good location, very close to Maxwell food court. Traditional building nice boutique hotel with a classy service. Cool roof bar, excellent coffee shop / keto and pizza menu (not part of the hotel).
Room was comfortable, especially nice shower room. Advice from receptionists was excellent. The local food hall covered every taste, close to tube (Maxwell) and in China Town. Our first visit to Singapore and this was a lovely discovery. The decor in the lobby and throughout is a nice fusion of old and new.
Location in Chinatown is excellent and easy to get to other locations on foot or public transport. However, we upgraded our room after we found our Deluxe room to be way too small for an 8 night stay. Even then, there were some odd things. I understand that hotels need to maximise use of space but, couldn't open shower door completely as it hit the toilet. AND the "3" rating is NOT a reflection on the staff. They deserve a 5. Housekeeping and desk staff were amazingly helpful especially Vino, Hari & Joscelyn. Disappointed that ongoing renovations meant there was no Jacuzzi, or Rooftop bar. It would help if a list of available facilities was provided in each room. Felt that Laundry & dry cleaning on offer excessively expensive so chose to use local laundromat. BTW Website is currently not the best - Every time I hit the "Find out more" button, it takes me back to home page.…
We stayed at The Scarlet on our way back to Australia. Exceptionally beautiful little boutique hotel with wonderful staff. The decor is very different from the usual ‘cookie cutter’ hotel chains and we loved it. Comfortable, large rooms (each one has a different theme) and the mini bar is all included in the room price! Even though it is right in the middle of Chinatown the rooms are exceptionally quite. Just what we needed after a 14 hour flight from London. The staff could not have been more helpful. Treated us like real human beings and not just bodies that need a bed which has been our experience with the multi national chains we have stayed in. Cannot recommend The Scarlet highly enough. If you are ever in Singapore this is the place to stay!
front desk staff provided excellent service, special compliments to Ms Nabila who was warm and sincere in attending to hotel guests. room was comfortable and clean. location is great, with access to wide variety of cuisines in near proximity. this hotel is like a little gem in the heart of the city.
The hotel is great as its a black from China Town and The Buddha tooth temple, and two MRT statik s one 50 m away The other about 400m. Staffare great friendly helpful and great at suggestions and options too. The front dest staff are great as are The rest of The team. Great roof bar and restaurant on The ground floor on Ann Siang street, which leads over the Hill to several vist ros and fashinable bars and its less than ten min walk unless you want street food at Maxwell food hall about 59 m from the hotel. China Town is also full of great places to eat and try different Styles. The room are great conformable beds and bathroom with great mini bar included. Top room have special feathures which did not try, maybe next time.
Scarlet by name, and scarlet by nature; entering the foyer a couple of weeks before Christmas was like Santa’s Grotto on acid - they couldn’t have crammed more ‘red’ in there if they’d tried, making sunglasses almost obligatory… Much has already been said about the hotel’s general condition - particularly carpets - and it’s all true; red does not take kindly to wear and tear. It’s also weird to stay in a room without a window but the air on was on top form, working quietly and methodically throughout, so fresh air was not missed. Also previous reviews have covered the hotel’s location, which is great if walking is your thing; Maxwell over the road, Ann Siang up (and down) the hill, and Chinatown on the doorstep - even Lau Pa Sat is doable at 800m. We didn’t try the in house restaurant (we heard it wasn’t brilliant) and it was irritating that throughout our stay we couldn’t use the bar because of office parties but it’s amazing how all the negatives can drift away when presented with good service. The reception ladies, coupled with the cleaning staff, were pleasant, willing and able to address any request with a cheerful smile and a positive attitude and I have to single out Jocelyn as an extremely proactive and professional young lady for whom nothing was too much trouble. We would certainly stay at this hotel again.…
Positives: 1)The staff were excellent and worked very hard - going above and beyond with every request. We arrived early morning after a long flight expecting to store baggage until check in time but we were able to access our room straight away and enjoy a hot shower and a sleep. 2)The location is very convenient - only a 90 second walk to MRT Maxwell for public transport and the Maxwell Hawker Market for a great, cheap meal. 5 minute walk in one direction to the lively restaurant area of Ann Siang Road and 5minutes the other way to the markets and restaurants of Smith, Temple and Mosque Streets. 3)The air-conditioning in the room was excellent! 4)The wifi had good upload speed. 5)The minibar was free and restocked daily ... including a couple of refreshing Tiger beers:) Negatives: 1)Some noise in the room from the MRT - presumably running underneath the hotel. 2)This hotel was probably once quite chic but is in desperate need of a refurbishment. 3)The lobby was quirky but the carpet and fixtures were tired and repaired badly in places 4)The carpet in the hallway was damaged 5)The carpet in our room had white stains probably from bleach and a large brown stain that left us wondering 6)Tiny ants invaded the bathroom and the table where the coffee etc was stored. Housekeeping staff tried to remedy with insect spray but relief was only temporary 7)There was black mould in the shower and basin surround 8) A lovely note advised that bath robes were supplied but they were old and the edges were ragged - we were not inclined to put them on! 9)The tiny soap / shampoo tray in the shower was broken and everything slid off it onto the floor 10) toilet seat was very loose 1)The bathroom vanity tap was broken / loose and swivelled when you tried to use it 12) The shower door leaked (poured) water onto the bathroom floor All together this is a tired hotel with staff who work very hard to compensate for the hotel itself…
I felt comfortable at The Scarlet Singapore from the very first moment. The service personnel was fantastic and took care of my needs every second. Even though check-out was at 12.00, I could use their facilities (shower, meeting room) until late at night since my flight was pretty late. Besides, the location is great, lots of restaurants and cafés are nearby as well as a metro station. Can only recommend this hotel!
