Took a short staycation with my wife. Walked past Labrador Park previously and saw this quaint hotel that looked like army barracks. Decided to try. What a wonderful decision it turned out to be. Loved the detail that went into the room decor, as well as The Library and surroundings. It all felt like going back into the early 1900 where copper pots and brass locks were the norm. Staff such as Jaya, Priya and Sheela were very hospitable and took good care of us. Great value for our stay, which included drinks, tea, breakfast and fruits. Taking a walk to Labrador Park, re-visiting the WWII exhibits everywhere, was still so educational fun and yet sobering. I highly recommend Villa Samadhi for a stay like no other.

Response from Andy Shaun, General Manager at Villa Samadhi, Singapore

Dear Edwinsim70, We are honored that your first review is to mention about your stay with us and blessed that it happened that you walked by and decided to try. Thank you! thank you as well for your mentions about the team, namely Jaya, Priya and Sheela. Villa Samadhi Singapore is indeed a 1920 heritage building which once was a colonial garrison brought back to life in respect to its surrounding and architecture. We are pleased that you felt the energy and history which evaporates from it whilst also enjoying your cultural walk through the park. Your recommendations and review means a lot to us, we hope that we may welcome you back again soon. warmest regards, Andy on behalf of the Samadhians

Having used to live in a colonial house, we chose Villa Samadhi for the history and away from the busy life. We initially booked the crib room but upon arrival, I requested to have a look at all the other rooms available. The front lady, Priya, was very accommodative and I upgraded to Sarang and Rustic Bath on d next night. The breakfast and the staff of Tamarind Hills are great. Breakfast was good. Staffs were attentive. We didnt expect 100% perfection. But the service and ambience for us masks all the imperfections. We have read some of the reviews. Do expect to walk up the stairs, walk uphills, estimated less than a km walk towards the train station, a few hundreds mtr away from the park itself. We didnt mind that, our early mornings were occupied with morning runs, walk through history and then breakfast. And yes some rooms do not have windows, didnt mind at all as we have lived in this type of smaller colonial, the original design itself is a bit awkward if you are not used to it. And kudos to the designers that made it look much better. Sarah was the front desk during day time, my husband's luggage was a little heavy and she really tried helping to carry it up the 2nd floor but we stopped her and when she insisted we just gave her our smaller bags. You have to love history, nature, walks and privacy and take a step back from a fast paced life and enjoy your stay. Explore the area not just within labrador itself, you will find more of similar buildings and hidden parks, the history of this building and Tamarind hills. Its significance in the 1880s and WW2. Thank you all from the front desk to the "uncle" and restaurant staff for making our stay a memorable one. Definitely will return, maybe this time with lighter luggage.

Dear Laelyna81, thank you very much for having taken your time to review Villa Samadhi and Tamarind hill Singapore including mentions about the team with Priya, Sarah, uncle Nguan, the restaurant team and the service provided. The whole design of the properties have been arranged by our CEO with his love for antiquities and travels where he brought in personally unique art pieces and furnitures promoting south East Asian artisan's craftsmanship of small villages from Malaysia to the Thai/Burmese border. Colonial buildings/houses do bring in a sense of nostalgia of the bygone era and we are please that you have enjoyed your stay and experience away from the busy centre with us. we do hope to have the pleasure to welcome you again. Warmest regards Andy on behalf of the Samadhians PS: Sarah has been working out, so no worries for the luggage, she says she will be ready next time :)

A great place at a great location (20mns away from Chinatown by mrt but lost in the green quietness). Also try the fantastic food at the neighboring restaurant, Tamarind Hill. But all this would not be complete without the kindness and helpfulness of the staff; be they all praised and thanked for their welcome and warm presence.

The colonial hotel provides a very good vacation vibes from hotel it self, if you want to enjoy and experience old Singapore days , here is a good one . Besides, their food , services, greenery surrounding and nearby attractions within walking distance are also unforgettable. It is also convenient to go to the downtown by metro with around 10 minutes of walk.

Great place to relax for a couple of days as hotel was surrounded by nature. Service staff were polite and friendly. We chose to have our tea set served inside the room so the staff brought in a small coffee table for us. Housekeeping did a good job as room was clean and comfortable. Will definitely return again.

Stayed 2 nites as part of a yoga retreat cum staycation. The overall experience was so pleasant and blissful that I have recommended the Villa to friends and family. The forest setting made us feel like we were in some overseas resort. Sounds of birds and crickets were our constant companions. The room was very comfy and clean. It's clear that the hotel had paid great attention to details, from the free facemasks to the delicious local fruit basket to the drinking water in the copper jug to the squeaky clean bathroom. The food at Tamarind Hill restaurant was really authentic Thai and delicious. Luv their homemade pineapple spread! The yoga teacher, Sze Ja, is a fully qualified yoga teacher. She was very friendly, patient and absolutely qualified to teach us yoga. Highly recommend her! Of course, the staff from start to end were absolutely wonderful and made us feel welcomed. They were shorthanded but we were never left to feel underserved. For this, they deserve accolades especially since it was right after covid restrictions were lifted. Definitely coming back again.

We enjoyed our stay as the location was beautiful, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The staff were helpful and friendly. We had requested for a little something special (as we were celebrating an occasion), and they were kind enough to oblige with decorations on the bed. They had offered some complimentary dessert in their email, but failed to follow through on the day itself. It could be more polished for the price we paid. The room had limited floor space, and sparse furnishing as a result. For a SGD 700 per night (2 pax), we only had the bed & 2 outdoor chairs to lounge on. We did have an in built jacuzzi with bath salts provided, however the hot water and jet streams were only on for a short amount of time - not specified to us by the staff. When it was on, the temperature was lukewarm at best. The jacuzzi could be a lot cleaner as well. I was not too enticed by the appearance of the water. Whilst the hotel had included some lovely details such as a copper jug and cups to use, there were clearly areas of neglect. For example, certain soap dispensers weren't working very well/ lose/ clogged with dried soap. The food was mediocre by Singapore's standards for the price. They have a lovely bar but unfortunately it was not in business throughout our entire stay. Overall I appreciate the quaintness and simplistic beauty of the place. No doubt it takes a lot to be maintained, as the price did not quite seem to justify the amenities provided. Nonetheless we would like to thank the staff for doing their best to make our stay an enjoyable one.

This was a beautiful solo holiday, which was 5 star. The rooms are beautifully furnished, the ibrary to read ir do work class is beautiful and the food taste, presentation and all the complimentary extra or afternoon tea is first class. I even got complimentary foot massage from sheela and Preya was so lovely front of house, the food from tamarind hill is premium standard, try the tom yum soup ! I will be bringing back the family for the plunge pool room.

Had the opportunity to chat with my bartender Jia Bao during my stay at Villa samadhi..it felt like he welcomed me into his home, which actually gave me good vibes...he was gracious and served us our drinks...he even had a couple of recommendations...he offered to make my wife a special non-alcoholic cocktail which was really very good and impressive...I'm so thankful for our Housekeeper Jaya Letchumi to introduce us to the bartender and for giving us good insights about the place...absolute thanks to the 2 great souls in Villa Samadhi...
