This place was great, we were staying in a different hotel in Lima and went to visit the Gran Bolivar for a Pisco (we hadn't chosen to stay here because of some of the negative reviews). After visiting and asking to see a room we booked a night. The hotel is elegant and old, not like most hotels which are...

Stayed here for a couple of nights before heading up to Cusco for the Inca Trail. The hotel is in a good location in Central Lima within easy walking distance of all historic sites and some great shopping and restaurant options. The rooms were massive and very clean. The overall feel of the place was nice, it was like stepping...

Got a FANTASTIC price on Orbitz and the Gran Bolivar promised a very different hotel stay in Lima. We experienced elegance from another era with the possibility of a haunted night (sadly, no ghost encounters). The hotel is gorgeous and in a great location. The rooms were large , but seems to have been renovated last in the 1970's. The...

A $85 room/night downtown Lima is a sweet deal... if you are a sound sleeper. Otherwise, ask for a room that does not overlook the plaza but the back instead, or the inner patio if possible. While the hotel has the charm of the 1920 era, furniture and windows seem to be from that era as well. We had a...

I got my best nights' sleep of my vacation here: because it's as quiet as a tomb. That's a welcome relief from the architecture of most Peruvian lodging where the walls are paper thin. We knew what we were getting into in this place. Old. Worn down. Seen better days. Possibly haunted. But we were giddy with just how gaudy,...

Stayed on 2 separate nights either side of a 4 day excursion and have to say I nearly didn't go back after the first night. Now I wasn't expecting much for the money I paid for the room but it was truly awful. The door didn't lock properly and the room had no curtains and the bathroom was very poor....

The Gran Hotel Bolivar is the old guard hotel at the center of Lima. I love these in any city. By extention, the historic bar in the lobby is exceptional featuring open-air seating with a view of the Plaza San Martin. It is rumored that Ernest Hemingway holds the record there, for most Pisco Sours consumed in one sitting and...

Don't expect too much from this 1920's hotel. It's really "all original". Nothing has really been updated and it has a bit of a not so scary haunted feel to it. The room we had was gigantic. I'm sure in the day this hotel was simply amazing. The place was very clean, the bathroom had what you needed although the...

Our room here was spacious and had everything we needed for a stopover in Lima. The room had a foyer/sitting room, two closets and antique furniture that made it absolutely charming. The hardwood floors were in pristine condition. It seems that at some point there was air conditioning--I'm not sure if it still works, but we just cracked the window...

What an amazing experience, but don’t book this if you expect 20th or 21st century conveniences. It’s a (wonderful in my book) going-back-in-time experience , but you need to be rather flexible. The lift will probably stop working at times, so it could be a good slog upstairs. The Wifi is wobbly and the phones don’t necessarily work. But it...
