The Gran Hotel Bolivar is the old guard hotel at the center of Lima. I love these in any city. By extention, the historic bar in the lobby is exceptional featuring open-air seating with a view of the Plaza San Martin. It is rumored that Ernest Hemingway holds the record there, for most Pisco Sours consumed in one sitting and...

Don't expect too much from this 1920's hotel. It's really "all original". Nothing has really been updated and it has a bit of a not so scary haunted feel to it. The room we had was gigantic. I'm sure in the day this hotel was simply amazing. The place was very clean, the bathroom had what you needed although the...

Our room here was spacious and had everything we needed for a stopover in Lima. The room had a foyer/sitting room, two closets and antique furniture that made it absolutely charming. The hardwood floors were in pristine condition. It seems that at some point there was air conditioning--I'm not sure if it still works, but we just cracked the window...

What an amazing experience, but don’t book this if you expect 20th or 21st century conveniences. It’s a (wonderful in my book) going-back-in-time experience , but you need to be rather flexible. The lift will probably stop working at times, so it could be a good slog upstairs. The Wifi is wobbly and the phones don’t necessarily work. But it...

You can't beat this hotel for the money or location. It's the "Grand old Lady" of Lima. Do not expect luxury or you will be disappointed. One added plus (for those interested in ghosts) the staff concurred that this great old hotel is actually "haunted", and not by mean, nasty ghosts either, but by the nicer kind, which will only...

Stayed 1 night at this hotel. Arrived early in the morning (about 6am) at the hotel but was told that check-in time is 2pm. I was informed that I had to pay a fee (approximately equivalent to the amount that I have paid for one night stay) for early check-in. I chose to wait it out at the lobby (did...

ohhh - My sister and I wanted to have our final night in a "proper" hotel - we had read that it had plumbing problems from the lonely planet so we were not expecting much - especially for our measly $75 USD for the both of us - the reception and the hotel itself is BEAUTIFUL - however we had...

I stayed at this hotel for a single night before I embarked to Cuzco early the next morning with my girlfriend. The hotel is located in a relatively good area of Lima, it's no Miraflores though. I searched a couple of online sites beforehand and found that through bookings.com I could book this hotel for $30/night, which I did. Be...

Very bad exp! I was also told that Gran Bolivar(GB) did not have any arrangement with Expedia and therefore did not have my name in the room reservation list (I had booked for $40 through expedia deal). After much heckling, which involved my logging on the expedia website to show them my confirmation email from Expedia, I was told that...
