If you travel to Tahiti and stay on the Tahiti itself, you are missing a chance to experience a more authentic and tranquil Polynesia. Tahiti, the largest island in French Polynesia, has a population of over 200,000, and is correspondingly commercialized, even to the extent of rush hour traffic congestion in the capital, Papeete.. Nuku Hiva, in the Marquesas, is...

OK, it is overpriced, it is not your standard 5 star hotel, there are bugs at dawn, and if this bothers you, you probably wouldn't come to the Marquesas anyway. This is Nuku Hiva, a remote place with still the Marquesian culture intact, made up of friendly warmth, pride, generosity and no nonsense. The hotel has good rooms facing the...

Ok, so this is not a 5 Star resort. But we were on Nuku Hiva Island in the middle of French Polynesia, so actually that was a plus! It wasn't a cookie cutter resort hotel, like so many around the world. This delightful little resort (only 20 individual bungalows) overlooking Taiohae bay was really something. The views from our bungalow...

First off, understand that this is not Bora Bora. The Marquesas are some of the remotest islands on earth and people do not visit here for the sandy beaches or night life. But Nuka Hiva and Hiva Oa offer a look at how Polynesia used to be in unspoiled, undeveloped beauty. These are not barrier reef islands like the Society...

This was my second trip to Nuku Hiva, the first being in 2005. The Keikahanui Pearl Lodge has not changed. It is a beautiful place to relax. The grounds are immaculate. The food is good and the staff are all very nice. We stayed for 7 nights in a bay view bungalow. The bungalows are comfortable, clean and have wonderful...

I flew from Tahiti (Society Islands) to the Marquesa Islands (Nuku Hiva and also to Hiva Oa). It was a wonderful experience. The Keikahanui Nuku Hiva Pearl Lodge in Nuku Hiva and the Hanakee Pearl Lodge in Hiva Oa are, without a doubt, the nicest places to stay. Both properties have wonderful views, great settings, excellent service and my rooms...

What a nice place, and what a nice owner and staff. Of all the hotels we stayed in French Poly, we liked this one best. Not because it is so luxurious (like Four Seasons, this is a different league) but because the place had so much character and you are i close touch with the real Marchesa feel.

My husband and I visited French Polynesia and chose Nuka Hiva for a very different experience in comparison to moorea or bora bora. It is a little tough to get there as it is a 4 hour flight from Tahiti and there is only one flight a day but it is well worth it.! The hotel was superb. We had...

We have eaten at the restaurant several times during our visit. The service is friendly and attentive, food is very good and they will pick you up from anywhere in town for a small fee. Try the wahoo ceviche, risotto, and coconut creme brûlée!

It is a locally brand. I.e. Not an international hotel chain. The price is high given that it is in one of the most remote part of the world. Surprisingly the service, the presentation, design, comfort and food all exceeds our expectations. It is in a superb location with almost panoramic views of the oceans and beyond. The bungalows are...
