I should start by clearing up the confusing name. This is not a hostal of the backpacking kind with dorms etc by a nice mid range hotel (about $35 if I remember rightly).

It´s located in a safe (by San Salvador standards) neighbourhood (if that doesn´t reassure you enough then maybe the guard outside with pump action shotgun will). There are a few other options on this street which are listed in the L.P Cen Am (all charging more than the book states of course) which is how we came to be in the area. Armonia seemed to be the nicest at the best price.

It was brand new when we stayed there in May this year. The room was very nice with brand new everything (as you might expect!). There was cable tv, wi fi and a/c.

The price included breakfast (coffee, juice, eggs and bread).

The staff were friendly and attentive. One of them walked with me one night to show me where a tienda was. I didn´t have quite enough money so he lent me some cents and refused to let me give it him back at a later time.

They also let us leave luggage there whilst we went to the beach at El Tunco even though they knew were weren´t going to stay when we came back to collect it.

If I were ever in S.S again I would definitely come back and stay here. Highly recommended.

I just got back from my first visit to El Salvador. I went for an entire week and stayed at the Armonía Hostal. The Armonía offered me EXACTLY what I was looking for. Easy access to buses...they run about every 5 minutes...a few blocks from the hostal and only costs either 20 cents or 25 cents. The Salvadorean people on the bus were very kind and helpful with letting me know when to get off. The hostal is run by an awesome mother and son combo. They are very hospitable / friendly; you feel as if you are with family. Each morning I would ask Alejandro for directions to this place or that and he would explain the buses to take, transfers, draw me a map, etc. I went to MANY places in El Salvador (near and far) and did them all using public transportation...buses. The rooms are large and comfortable. Slept very well and the air conditioner was in perfect working condition. The Wi-fi is excellent! In the evening, Alejandro's mother and Alejandro would always ask how did it go and what did I like or dislike. Then they would suggest other places of interest. You can also use taxi; they will call one for you and they have one (Don Fausto) that is top-notch! I used his services once because where I was going would have been a lot more difficult with buses...though still possible; and because it was my last day and wanted to treat myself to a taxi. The Armonia has good hot water from sinks and shower. I highly recommend that you go to: UCA- to see the Archbishop Romero Building and free tour; the Cathedral, the Our lady of the Rosary church (ugly outside , but what a treasure inside), the Guadalupe Church, the UNESCO Joya de Ceren and San Andres ruins...called the Pompeii of the Americas, and many many more beautiful sites. If I were to go again to El Salvador, I would definitely stay in the Armonia Hotel again! Very nice people running the place. Actually, I found that the vast majority of Salvadoreños are very nice, kind, helpful and hard-working people. Last, but not least, there is an excellent Italian Restaurant next to the hostal and then like three blocks away an excellent Salvodorean restaurant: EL ESTABLO!!!!! You must go!!! Other restaurants are nearby too and grocery stores. Forgot to mention the ladies that cook and clean...very helpful also. They too helped with directions and with giving me insight to their countries history and unique places of interest. I give this place 5 HUGE stars. I wish them even more success!!!

I spent 16 days at Hotel Armonia Hostal after the house I rented was made uninhabitable by a flood. Best choice ever! The air-conditioned rooms in the two-story hotel are spotless and are cleaned daily, the breakfast is tasty, and the staff is friendly and helpful. My first two days were in a large sunny room on the 2nd floor that had a street view (no refrigerator). It was noisier due to street traffic, but it was charming listening to the birds in the morning, and watching the locals go about their business, and watching the squirrels travel on the utility wires. On the third day, since that room was already reserved for someone else, I was moved to another room in the rear that included cable tv, a couch, table, and a refrigerator. Not all rooms have a refrigerator, so if you need one, be sure to ask. The wi-fi signal is excellent, and there is a computer in the lobby if you don't have one of your own. There are no mosquitos. Bottled water and soft drinks are available for purchase at the desk. The 24/7 neighborhood security patrol is located across the street, and the neighborhood is safe enough to walk after dark to three good restaurants located a few blocks away. If you want your meal delivered, the hotel can arrange that easily. A shopping center and more restaurants are located a few more blocks away. If you don't have a car and don't want to take the big city bus for 20 cents, the hotel has a list of reliable taxi drivers available day or night to take you wherever you want to go, and wait for you as long as you need, Airport service can be arranged (the standard price even at the airport is $28). The staff can also arrange sightseeing tours or a driver for the day. Their English may not be fluent, but it's good enough to get by. Not wheelchair accessible yet.

The hotel also has a well-appointed air-conditioned business center that can seat 50 people comfortably, and comes equipped with a kitchen, restrooms, and amenities such as a projection screen. The tropical gardens have outdoor seating and supply the room with cool fragrant breezes.

From now on, Hotel Armonia Hostal is my place to stay in San Salvador. My sincerest thanks to la doctora (the owner), Dario, Irma, Patti, and Alex, for making my stay a most wonderful experience. Somos amigos por vida. :)

This place was excellent. good location in safe neighbourhood. clean and big room. Breakfast was good value and well presented. Staff were all fantastic.....But.....when is it ever acceptable to have major building works being carried out in the hotel going on all day with the amount of noise. We arrived at 3am due to bus delays after an 12 hour journey and wanted a good sleep......no chance.

I spent 4 nights here and was surprisingly pleased with my stay. The building is very secure and they keep the front door locked at all times. I arrived at around 2 am and I had no problem checking in, in fact the owner was nice enough to let me register in the morning when I woke up so that I could just go to bed. Free breakfast is wonderful. Typical Salvadorian breakfast platanos, refried beans and rice, cream, eggs, bread, juice, and coffee. Air conditioning works great, hot water was wonderful, my only complaint about my entire stay was the bed. It is VERY VERY firm. Also I tend to like a heavier blanket on me when I sleep so if you like a heavier blanket make sure to bring one because the bed only has two thin sheets on it. There is parking for only 3 cars but quite a bit of parking on the street. All in all it's a great value for the price.

I recently spent 2 nights at this hotel at the end of my travels through Central America. Despite being unpleasantly surprised by the levels of danger that San Salvador presented, I was very pleasantly surprised with this hotel.

It's a family run hotel located in a safe neighbourhood. There are great restaurants and a mall within 15 mins. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean, spacious, and there is great A/C. I would definitely stay here again.

I really like this place the staff was great and very helpful. Good neighborhood close to Metrocentro. Alex who seemed to be there all hours of the day was great at helping with everthing. Showers had hot water which is rare in El Salvador. Only complaint was beds were to firm and pillows to thin other than that it was a good stay.

This is around 40 km from the airport but close to the city centre. The rooms look old and most furniture and the toilet need a facelift. Breakfast is available from 7 am. The staff were all very friendly but only one of them could speak English.

I stayed here for a week, it was great, quiet, had a lovely bright room with the view of one of the Volcanos. Hot water, quiet AC, comfortable bed. Chose the breakfast included option and it was lovely, made to order. The staff were lovely and very helpful even though there was but of a language barrier because I can't speak Spanish. Alex and Darius and the front desk were so helpful and Pat and Elma the two lovely ladies that cleaned and made breakfast were awesome! The had free water and they offered to keep my leftovers in their fridge. I highly recommend this place, it's in a nice area very central and I would definitely stay here again!

Thanks to all the great people that work at the Hotel Armonía Hostal. Breakfast was delicious. Yum yum. The Room, bathroom, towels and sheets were always clean. Special thanks to the lady that prepared and served the breakfast everyday (I don't recall her name at this moment). She was very kind and always smiling. We stayed 7 days and there is Security Guard outside the hotel 24/7. The hotel neighborhood was quite and safe.
