Florida and Alfonso are great hosts. I was for one night in the hotel, and was warmly welcomed, has a very clean and tidy room, toilet, wifi and breakfast. Florida was also kind enough to make me a sandwich at night. The hotel is small, very cozy and in a secure and quiet neighborhood. The next day I did a... More

Hotel San Mateo has been the best and most value for money stay I had in Central America. The hosts were thoughtful & eager to make sure I had a good stay. Flori was friendly and always smiling, helped me with getting a taxi, get my torn usd changed & even arranged for her Husband to take me on a... More

In my travels, I always try to find hidden gems in regards to places to stay, and this is one of them. Florida (wife) and Alfonso (husband) are fantastic hosts and make you feel at home. You are in their house, and they are so warm and inviting that they make you feel like part of their family. This is... More

This hotel is in a safe, quiet residential area. The host, Florida, was very helpful and welcoming. Yes, she charges for everything, but she is running a business and makes you feel very welcome! Note: She does have two friendly dogs. Breakfast is included and prepared by her, including some fruits/veggies from the garden. The room is air conditioned and... More

Yes, it's safe. It's also clean and quiet. But I disagree with other reviewers about the host. Maybe because I'm Latin-American I got a different perception of her: someone who thinks that travellers don't mind spending a little extra here and there. If she kindly offers you something, she will over charge for it. If she calls a taxi, she'll... More

Super clean! Very welcoming! Extremely helpful! In a guarded community, so extremely safe. Only thing is that they don't accept credit cards, so make sure you have cash. A lot better if its exact change.

I spent two nights in Hotel San Mateo. Its actually rather like a bed and breakfast, i would say. The hosts are very nice and helpful. They arranged taxi transfer from the airport. The airport is about 45 km away and transfer was 30 US$. This b&b is located in a safe neighbourhood which I guess is critical for San... More

I cannot find any faults with this amazing place. Cheap airport transport arranged any time, free wifi, a super breakfast. Best of all super-friendly owners who really make you feel at home, and went out of their way to help with whatever you need. It was quiet whilst I was there so I was upgraded from a single room to... More

San Mateo Hotel is a wonderful little hideaway tucked away in an otherwise very noisy and very congested city. The hotel is in a gated community in one of the more exclusive neighborhoods in the city, and within walking distance of a bigger shopping center as well as a few restaurants. I always felt safe and at ease in the... More

This is a gem of a hotel, located in a gated community close to the city centre of San Salvador - so is as safe as you can get. Stayed here over three nights and was made to feel at home from day one. A shuttle from the airport was organised for me (28USD one way). Florida the manager, is... More
