This hidden jewel in hte heart of the city is San Salvadors best kept secret. once you walk thru the front gate you are transended into a lovely paradise. the furnishings, art and faux wall finishings made me feel like I was in Antigua Guatemala or San miguelle De Allende Mexico. It had different patios, Big comfortable rooms with comfortable beds and a lovely small pool with mandevilla and bouganvilla covered walls thru out. the owners and staff were very helpful, nice and provided a wonderfully friendly atmosphere. The prices were very very reasonable too.
I plan to return to this exquisite little gem in August. I highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed at this hotel with a large group of friends for a week while in San Salvador. The location was not bad; in a relatively safe part of San Salvador with plenty of restaurants and stores within walking distance. It was far enough off the main road that there wasn't heavy traffic passing the hotel (though we were frequently subjected to the sound of a very loud bicycle horn in the mornings). The staff was very friendly and helpful, though anyone who doesn't speak Spanish should be aware that none of the staff we met spoke much, if any, English. The hotel seemed like it was being refinished while we were staying there, as many outlets and features were unfinished at the start of our trip and finished within a few days. I'm guessing they reinvested the money we paid into completing some of the needed repairs. The rooms were a nice size, though ours had no curtain in the bathroom, so anyone who happened to look up at the right time probably saw more than they'd bargained for. There are no in-room safes, but they do have a portable lockbox for rent if you want to store your pilferable items. The free wifi worked quite well. Among other things that improved over the week were getting hot water in the showers, organizing the laundry service, and serving meals and coffee. The first showers were quite cold, but the water temperature rose as the week went on until the last few days, where the water was nice and hot. The laundry service was a little disorganized, with clothes initially getting sent to the wrong rooms, but it was worked out by the end. This may have been more of an issue if people outside of our group had used the laundry service as well. The meals needed the most improvement: initial meals were served cold and the toast was served without any butter, jam, or other toppings and coffee refills were slow. The staff ultimately brought out an electric coffee urn so we could refill our own coffee, which was a big improvement. I think their kitchen was just too small to handle the quantity of food necessary to feed a large group. I'm sure the staff was just inexperienced with serving large groups and we provided them with the opportunity for some practice. If they continue to upgrade their facilities and improve their customer service, this will be a nice hotel.

I booked this hotel after seeing the ratings, location within walking distance of a conference my dad was traveling to El Salvador for, and the low price. That was a mistake. My dad showed up to check into the hotel, saw that it was not in a good part of town, and thought the hotel itself looked sketchy. He did not feel safe even going in. When we requested a refund the same day that he was supposed to check in after he saw the place, the hotel said to me and him that they had to abide by their strict policy of no refunds for the 1st day of the stay if you let them know the day of, whether you see the place and are concerned for your safety (among a plethora of likely alternatives for not staying there that many hotels would see as exceptions to the rule and give a full refund for) or wanted to switch to another hotel just for kicks and giggles. That's not right.

As opposed to the other review here, I´d say "More than Adequate and Quite Special!" This hotel has the most character of a dozen hotels I´ve visited in San Salvador. Most have that generic modern feel that could place them anywhere in the world or just are not up to par on cleanliness for the prices they charge. This hotel definitely will make you feel like you´re in El Salvador. It´s not a "luxury hotel" but it is clean and presentable. The owner speaks some English and her daughter is fluent. There last renovation added a pool--it´s small, but heck, it´a pool! If you´re looking for a reasonably priced hotel, go for this one and don´t waste your time looking at others like I did. If you want the generic luxury hotel with all the frills, then look elsewhere.

A quaint little hotel with magical details all around. Several indoor gardens, a nice pool, delicious breakfast and a staff that goes above and beyond. Also, within walking distance to two delicious and beautiful restaurants, a little store and other things. Very safe area.

The hotel is located in a safe area, but it can get quite loud at night since the rooms are not soundproofed. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend bringing ear plugs. In addition, the layout of the hotel is rather open, so it is possible to have rooms that open out into busy public areas, and this can become a little bit loud. However, the staff is very friendly, and they try to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

I was at the La Posada Del Rey Primero for 7 days. This was an unexpected stay, but I thank GOD that I was able to stay there for that length of time. From the front desk personnel, Yesenia and Israel, to the kitchen staff, Miriam and Josefa, to the housekeeping staff, Dora and Leti, and Jorge (night watchman/swimming pool attendant), you get upscale service at a very affordable price. The hotel is situated in a very safe neighborhood called Colonia Escalón. It does not seem like much of an upscale neighborhood, but after staying at some hotels in Rome, Spain, and Paris this is definitely a European-esque type of neighborhood and Hotel. However, the excellent service, hotel rooms with ample cable tv, free wi-fi 24/7, typical Mayan breakfast, and excellent front desk staff make this hotel a notch better than the European equivalent. Of course, this staff is the result of the wise decisions from the owner: Ms. Carmen, who with daughter Monica is at the helm of such a beautiful "orchestra" of employees. Providing travelers with very comfortable accommodations at a very reasonable price. I truly recommend this place to frequent travelers who will enjoy the Spanish colonial style and decor, peppered with typical salvadorean flair. But what truly makes this a special Hotel is not the swimming pool or the excellent a/c in each room, but the genuinely caring staff; who cook and serve with love.

This is a great place for someone who is looking for a quiet and pleasant time. The good or breakfast that is included is very good. It is a bit hard to find. Parking could be an issue because you parked on the street.
