It's been a long time since I stayed there, but I have good memories of the place and Mgt. It's in a great location more of less behind Metro Centro and the big hotel. Having a pool on hot days & nights is a plus. Can jump on a bus to get almost anywhere, but since Covid, buses routes have changed and new ones added as new developments open. Access to wifi, kitchen, and the pool is great...you can do a Dorm Room or kick in more for Private Room, and even A/C!

The hostal is actually kinda clean and the accomodations are nice but there are some things why I have rated it only with 4 stars. First of all the personal is just weird. You read everywhere in the comments from the owner that you can come back after 11pm but they didnt even mention it by a single word bit they actually emphasized the opposite - so you cant. Then then gave us seperate beds in two differents rooms even though the second bed wasnt occupied yet and only later somebody checked in and took it. Then they gave away my lower bed on my first day. So I had take the upper one, which was okay but weird once again.

The worst attitude I’ve ever seen. I cannot return to my country because of the war and the owner told me “You are not that broke if you are travel the world” and charged me money for the booking I’ve never used.

I don’t normally post negative reviews but here I feel that it’s a matter of justice.

I’ll describe the situation below so that everyone could decide for themselves if they want to stay here and be a customer of this business.

I’m from Ukraine and now I’m temporarily in Nicaragua because due to the Russia-Ukrainian war it’s not safe to return to the city where I used to live. The situation there remains unstable and dangerous.

I booked two nights at this hostel. I didn’t read the reviews or anything (which was my mistake). I simply choose it because it was the cheapest option and I’m now obviously pressed for money.

At the border crossing from Honduras to Managua, some unexpected issues occurred and the officials told me that I had to go back to Honduras and wait. I immediately notified the hostel stuff via a chat on Booking and explained the situation. I politely asked them to change the dates of my booking or cancel it without the penalty due to the force majeure situation. I also told them that I couldn’t afford paying for the accommodation where I didn’t stay because my budget was pretty limited.

In response, the hotel owners charged me the full amount for two nights and deleted the chat. Also, they didn’t reply to any of my messages or to my email.

I couldn’t believe, thought, that someone could treat their customers like that and came to Managua to talk to the owner.

When I came to the place, the owner seemed pretty nice, but his attitude changed once he found out that I wanted to ask for the favor of getting the services I’ve paid for. I wasn’t offered any compromise or, God forbid, any help.

He also lied to me that they had to send some people away because of my booking. I know that it’s not true because I checked Booking several times, and the beds in dormitory were always available for all dates.

Basically, he just kicked me out and I had to walk with all my stuff for 50 minutes alone in Managua LATE AT NIGHT. Probably, he decided that I was wealthy enough to afford a taxi but I’m not.

I do understand that business is about making money but at what cost?

Are thing going so bad that the owner really had no choice other than taking money from someone who’s going through hardship?

I didn’t ask for any charity or something like that. The money has already been paid.

The man stated no particular reason why I couldn’t use the money I’ve paid for two nights to stay at least one night. He just kicked me out because he CHOSE to do so.

Therefore, dear travelers, decide for yourself if you want to finance such an institution.

First of all, I want to make it very clear that we sympathize with the plight of the Ukrainian people that are stuck in an awful situation, trapped in a war zone in their country, and that have needed to flee to a safer situation. You need to be truthful about your situation, though...you told us that you have been traveling for the last ten years, so obviously you're not a refugee from Ukraine. It's shameful that you would use the plight of real people in your home country to try and portray yourself as seeking refuge in our hostel only to be thrown out on the streets by the owner! Back to your communication with us, we received the request to cancel the reservation at 520pm on the day of your arrival. We declined the request because it was too late to cancel as we need at least 24 hours' notice. This is made quite clear in the communication that we made with you in advance and also from Booking.com when you made the reservation. We were sold out in the dorm that you booked that night and we likely would have been able to sell the bed if we had received the notice we require. In the end, you showed up at the hostel a few days later, unannounced, requesting (trying to force us) us to honor your reservation (that was long since canceled), which we refused. When you didn't get your way, you became abusive and we had to ask you to leave. That was at about 730pm in the evening (not late at night), which means that you had plenty of time to find another place to stay. In the end, we find your story to be without merit, but I'm guessing it's worked in a few places to avoid paying the night!

I'm so glad I made Managua a proper stop over. 2 nights at Managua backpacker inn and I wish I'd had 3. The staff were gfest and informative. Services (free pancake and coffee breakfast, beer available on site, computer, hammocks, pool) everything was really great.

My day out in Managua was really interesting. Felt safe the whole time. Recommend the plaza de la revolution and the malecon walkway. National palace museum.

The place has seen better days ...very dark, 80s furniture, not super clean (especially the pool) and generally not inviting. Totally overpriced compared to similar standard hostels charging $ 5-7 online.
Weird reception hours due to Covid and hard to find for taxi.
The 2 guys running it are helpful and friendly but the hostel definitely has an "old/dusty vibe". Wouldn't stay again, especially after the amazing experience at Oasis hostel in Granada.

I think you're being unfair in your comments. With regard to the cleanliness, it's something that we put a lot of attention toward and is reflected in the positive reviews we receive on the Hostelworld/Booking platforms, and others. Secondly, the prices you quote ($5-$7) are actually inaccurate in that they probably reflect a monthly rate charged per night. The Oasis Hostel has a published rate of $9/night for the cheapest option. Obviously for longer stays, if that was the case, you receive a better rate! Our rate is $10.50 and since you only stayed two nights, there was no discount offered, which I realize upset you at the time. I really believe your rate expectations are unreasonable. Many businesses are suffering (those that are still open and haven't had to close down) and have dropped their rates just to be able to keep people in the hostel. This is not sustainable for these businesses as they are accommodating you at a loss, which over the long term may result in them having to close anyways. We chose to keep our rates steady in order to keep offering our popular services, including high-speed internet, the pool, digital cable TV, Netflix. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to keep all of our staff and for that reason we have shorter "official" reception hours (2pm to 10pm) daily, at the moment. Once things are busier again, we'll expand these hours. Despite these published hours, as you already know, either Bob or I are always here at the hostel and always available via Whatsapp for any questions/issues. For that reason, if you had told us that something required cleaning or repair in your room we could have fixed the situation at the time.

We stayed here for a night and it was bad ( to say the least ).
More expensive than advertised, and the stuff would not help us with anything, if there was nothing in return. We asked if it was possible to call our taxi driver, just to make sure about our reservation for the next day, but somehow, the hostel has no phones.
The only thing they could do, was arrange to take us to the airport for triple the price. ( I don't know how they would do that with no phones ).
I highly not recommended it

We had a reservation but they just sold our rooms to someone else! We arrived late, so there wasn't any other place around to go to (luckily the cabdriver waited for us and was able to take us some place else) and they just said they were full and closed the door on us!

The receptionist stole around 1000 cordobas. I hope he gets fired and that no one will ever stay at this place again. I'm really pissed. Shame on you!! Do not stay here. Apparently you cannot trust all the members of the staff.

It's truly unfortunate that this happened at our hostel and for that, we feel responsible. In this case, your wallet, which you had apparently left behind in the guest kitchen overnight, was eventually turned in to our reception area by another guest. Luckily your ID was still in the wallet. Its unclear though whether the 1000 Cordobas which was in the wallet was taken during the time it was sitting unattended in the kitchen or after it was turned in to reception. Unfortunately we have no way to prove/disprove your allegations either way.

The location is great, a safe neighborhood a short walk from Metrocenro. The facility is pleasant. But $10.20 is a lot to pay for a dorm bed. I paid in córdobas but the receptionist insisted on giving me my change in dollars.
The staff did nothing to control rowdy drunken behavior--in fact, they sell beer at reception. I paid in advance for two days. In the morning I put my valuables in a locker and went out for the day. Returning, I found that the chambermail had tossed my belongings into the garbage. I was livid, and the staff and chambermaid apparently checked the garbage because they found some of my stuff. I never did retrieve my short pants, shirt, socks, underware, or, most serious, computer case.
Why did they throw my possessions away? Well, they thought I had left, though I'd paid for the following night.
No apology was offered. The staff just didn't care.
Breakfast? I was hungry and at the point of ordering, in spite of the outrageous prices---when I noticed a sign on the Wall, that a "voluntary" 10% tip would be added to the bill.
No way..

Hi, We don't officially offer storage for luggage because we don't have a specific area setup for storage. However, having said that, for guests who are planning to stay at the hostel upon return, we can certainly lockup a backpack or two in our office which is locked up and only accessible to our staff. Hope that works for you?
