Casa Cuba is located in the neighborhood of Pueblo Nuevo, a central area of Panama City. We are located close to three of the main roads of Panama City (12 de Octubre Ave. Via EspaƱa and Transistmica) and we are only ten minutes by bus from downtown Panama City. Our location is well known and offers many shopping centers, restaurants, drug stores, supermarkets and convenience stores, as well as casinos, banks and other diversions where you can enjoy peacefully and securely. Our location is ideal for connections by bus to other points of interest in Panama City such as Tocumen International Airport (25 minutes), Miraflores Locks (Panama Canal: 30 minutes), Albrook Mall and Metromall (20 minutes, Casco Antiguo (20 minutes). These travel times are typical but every so often they may be longer due to traffic congestion or closed roads, requiring detours, etc.because of the construction of the Metro of Panama.

Detailed Reviews
I highly recommend Casa Cuba for the budget-minded independent traveler. Clean rooms, plenty of hot water, air conditioning, satellite TV, modern/clean kitchen, all at very reasonable rates. Luis & Teresa are great hosts and the location, although far from the center and Casco Viejo, worked out just fine (when/if the Metro opens in 2014, there will be a station within walking distance of the hostal). I suggest printing out some Google maps of the area to help you navigate...using "Calle 82A Oeste" comes close to the real location. The exact coordinates are: 9.014285, -79.508615. When using taxis, your best bet us to tell them to take you to the Supermercado Rey en Avenida Doce de Octubre...you can then guide the taxi to Casa Cuba or walk the two blocks. A few words on taxis in PanamĆ” City: 1 in 3 is an outright crook and will try to charge 2-3x the real price. We paid $2.50-3.00 to travel from Casa Cuba to the Center/Albrook, 50 cents more for Casco Viejo. It's best to negotiate in Spanish but in any case you have to be firm and simply dismiss the taxistas who try to rip you off. There are plenty of taxis trolling the streets near Casa Cuba but avoid trying to get a taxi at the entrance to Rey (or at the entrance to any mall/hotel) as you will be quoted the "Special Service" rate of $8.00. One ploy several taxistas tried on us was to take us to the Rey on Via EspaƱa and then claim we didnāt tell them we wanted the one on Octubre XII, in effort to extract more cash. Also avoid using the taxi drivers Luis has connections with as we tried this once for an early morning ride but the driver tried to charge us twice the rate Luis had quoted as it was a "Special Service." In terms of food options, the Rey supermarket is excellent and Waikiki offers decent Panamanian food at American prices on Avenida Lefevre 100m south of Via EspaƱa. There are also several junk food options, an expensive Italian restaurant and a Peruvian seafood place all within walking distance, none of which we tried. The neighborhood/area is fine with no shady characters, in fact, despite what the guidebooks say, we found all of PanamĆ” City to be quite safe. One caveat on walking: Beware of the gaping, man-eating holes in the sidewalks, especially when walking from Rey to Casa Cuba at night, and, it goes without saying, take care when crossing the street anywhere in PanamĆ” as everyone drives like a maniac (except Luis & Teresa)!

Room small but neat. Very friendly owners. Excellent breakfast available, though not included in price. The owner can pick up at airport for a fee. Will stay here again next time I am spending some time in Panama City (usually on my way to the islands).

It is hard to find low budget places in Panama City that is nice and clean with friendly staff. Luis and his family's place at Casa Cuba is an exception. The moment I arrive at Casa Cuba I was treated with a warm welcome. Although it is a little bit of a distance to the city center, learning how to use the Metro Bus system which is easy to use will enable you to travel to all parts of the city including Panama Centro. The Metro Bus is very cheap ( 25 cents a ride). Up the hill from Casa Cuba is a nice little mall with El Rey Super Mercado and small good little restaurants like a Grill Restaurant, KFC and Sushi if you like.
Luis' and his wife is very helpful with tourist information both in Panama City and the rest of the country.

Casa Cuba is a great place to stay at, The price is good if you compare to other hotels/hostel. The Owner Luis and his wife Teresa is 2 wonderful persons that make you feel at home.
The area good and it close for shopping and a taxi do not cost much if you going to the other shopping mall or out to eat. I can recommend Casa Cuba.
Next time i visit Panama its Casa Cuba the place i will stay at :)

I stayed here for 3 nights upon my arrival in Panama City. I was travelling solo and felt safe and secure here. I had a room facing the back, which did help subdue the little street noise that there is. A full breakfast is not included in the price, but you can order one the night before and it will be waiting for you at the time you request it -- anywhere between 7am and 9am. Luis was very helpful in suggesting places to visit and ordering safe and secure taxis for me. I found it difficult to figure out the bus system in Panama City so I just took taxis to get where I wanted to go. Rooms come with private bath, AC and fridge. There is a small plaza withing 10 minutes walk where you can buy things at a supermarket and there are also some restaurants. Everything else is too far to walk so its best to take a taxi.
This hostal also has a small swimmingpool which made for a great dip after a day of sightseening.
The room gets made up every day, but sheets and towels do not get changed every day which is better for the environment and also helps keep the roomrate down.

you feel welcome since the first moment. The place is clean, and the area is safe. It has everything that offers. Wifi, cable tv, air conditionair, hot water, refrigerator in the room and clean pool.
I first went to another place and I hated there, I remembered the good opinions for this place, so I called Casa Cuba in the middle of the night and we went there first thing the next day. I totally recomend it.

Very hospital and clean hostel. My friend and I didn't really have big expectations, but this hostel gave us nothing to complain about. I don't know that this location was perfect to get everywhere, but taxis are very cheap and easy to come by (compared to Chicago and St. Louis). Also, there is a fantastic grocery store within walking distance. Wifi included was a plus too. A/C worked really well. Like I said, a nice quiet place with nothing to complain about UNLESS you have something really specific in mind...and then my review won't be too helpful to ya. All the best in your travels!

We stayed for 3 nights and this was a great base from which to go exploring the city. The is a large supermarket 10 minutes walk away and the kitchen in the hostel is available so you can prepare your own meals.
The hostel is a little way from the centre of the city and the old town, but taxis are very affordable.
The owners are very friendly and accommodating. When we asked Teresa for directions to the post office, she drove us there!
The rooms are smallish but clean and have everything you need - good hot water, tv, aircon. The building is very secure and the area feels safe.

I used Casa Cuba as a base to travel around Panama. I stayed with my boyfriend for several nights. Luis and Teresa were amazing. Luis arranged everything for us from private tours to transfers to the bus station and airport. Teresa made delicious breakfasts as well. Their kitchen is incredible--large and fully stocked with proper cooking items. The location is near a large grocery store and restaurants. The upstairs rooms have a lovely large balcony and it is in a quiet location.

Thanks to other TripAdvisor reviews, we selected Casa Cuba Hostal. All the reviews were positive, and they all mentioned the hospitality they received from Luis and Teresa.
Our experience was no different. As a Mom travelling with my 3 daughters, I was very thankful for Luis and Teresa. They arranged for us to be picked up at the airport (Jorge - who is wonderful), and helped us with some day trips. We stayed at their Casa for 3 nights and then returned again for 1 night prior to departing Panama. We were able to walk to the grocery store (Rey) for food to cook at the hostal in their well-equipped kitchen. There are restaurants also within walking distance. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We appreciated the pool. Our stay at Casa Cuba was very pleasant. Thank you to all the others who have written reviews - they were very helpful.

"Sorry, no spa on site that I know of, but I'm sure Luis can help you find an excellent one nearby. Check the prices on individual rooms. We had a great room with a queen size bed and a single bed, a private restroom with a shower, hot water, and good water pressure. The rooms are named after the different regions of Cuba. Ours was the Las Matanzas room. This room and several others at the hostal also have access through the back door of the room to a shared balcony overlooking a beautiful canal with lots of tall trees growing around it and a striking city skyline on the horizon."Read full review
