Detailed Reviews
We stayed at Casa Sucre for four nights last week and really appreciated the warm reception from Alicia,Richard and Jonny. The hotel captures the atmosphere of the old town in a central location close to numerous restaurants and historic buildings. The coffee shop provides an excellent breakfast and great coffee, the bedrooms are very comfortable and the owners are happy to share their local knowledge. The local area is vibrant into the small hours but this is all part of the experience. Highly recommended.

Casa Sucre was the most perfect hub for our introduction to Panama! Rich and Alyce were so friendly, attentive and helpful that we truly felt like we'd gained new friends. Casco Viejo is beautiful- but Alyce warned us that it does get loud at night. She provided earplugs and was concerned it would bother us, but I must say that from our downstairs apartment, the noise wasn't a problem: the bedroom is at the back of the building and opens to the inside courtyard, nicely separated from the party noise outside. We slept so well! Daily breakfast in the cafe was always delicious and Oh! that Panama coffee!!! Shanny, in the cafe, was awesome and made us feel like family! Ironically by the end of our trip, the panic over coronavirus was imposing restrictions, but when life gets back to normal, we anticipate returning some day. BTW, Alyce, if you're reading this, our cruise was canceled the day before we were to board, so we never did get on the cruise ship. Keep the coffee hot! We'll be back!

Service: Welcoming and Friendly!
Rooms: Charming and comfortable. We were upgraded to a small apartment at no additional cost but either way the property is interesting.
Location: This is in the heart of Casco Viejo and is the perfect location for the entire area. The area is very loud at night and we were provided ear plugs which, for us, was totally unnecessary but appreciated.
Cafe: great coffee, the lunch sandwiches are amazing and the breakfast was good.

My rating is less based on the staff and hotel...they were all wonderful! It is about the location general. We thought staying in old town would be fun, it was with great walkability, coffee, desserts and restaurants. However, BEWARE, it is so loud at night, the bass from local rooftop bars was going until 4 am, like feel it in your bones and the walls shake bass. Earpulgs provided but they did nothing to take the bass away. It was awful Fri and Sat, ok on Sun and then the locals picked it up on Monday. The coffee shop coffee was excellent and necessary to make it through the day. If you are up for partying this is the place for you, if you are a family with young kids maybe stay somewhere else.

Casa Sucre
We had a small room on the upper floor (steps). + Fridge and microwave, corner balcony overlooking an active intersection (great place to sit and have an evening drink) A shared living room added space. Great location. Needed to wear the provided earplugs on Sunday night. Other nights were quieter.
Great Breakfast selections included at their Coffee Shop on the corner.
Owner Alyce makes it all happen! An American transplant, she connected us with airport rides and personal tours.
Our Room was a “3” because of the noise, and double bed size, but loved the balcony. Still a highly recommended place to stay. There are other rooms and apartments here you might want to consider.

Our stay was magnificent! We stayed in a clean, lovely, well appointed apartment with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. The hotel is located in the heart of the historic Casco Viejo. The owners Rich and Alyce are friendly and welcoming. Eating in their cafe is a must. Wonderful coffee, and a nice assortment of food for breakfast and lunch. Try the quiche made fresh daily by the owner! What a gem.
Panama is a wonderful place to visit. So much to see from the canal, to the Indian Village, Bio Museum. Wonderful restaurants and above all friendly people. If you enjoy the outdoors and visiting different cultures, Panama is a great place to visit.

I wish I could give this place 10 stars.
The location:
Incredibly beautiful location. They have probably the best corner in Casco - walking distance to the water, old cathedrals, every bar and restaurant you could dream of, and the President's Palace. On top of that, you really feel like you're in the community and not gated away on some resort that could easily be anywhere in the world.
For those who may have traveling abroad safety concerns - the owners know EVERYONE and because of the palace down the street, security is never too far.
The building.
Beautifully renovated old building that really allows you to live in Casco's charm but with all the comforts of modernity. We stayed in a suite with a full kitchen. Electricity worked perfectly, water pressure was fine, remotes to TV's worked (though you won't be watching much of it). The hardwood floors, the calicanto walls, and artwork is absolutely beautiful and for anyone who loves character (assuming you do if you're staying in Casco) this place is a MUST for you.
The service.
Our rooms were cleaned, fresh towels and wash clothes provided daily (even extra for our beach trip), the works. Never had an issue.
The coffee shop.
Coffee snobs and those who THINK they dislike coffee, do yourself a favor and have either a latte or a cup of the Panamanian coffee. My partner is not a huge coffee drinker, especially not in hot humid weather. After her first latte, she was getting it twice a day. It puts anything else you've had to shame. Needless to say, I am back in the states settling for New Orleans Community Coffee (Cafe Du Monde). The quiche is phenomenal, the bagel sandwiches are to die for, the fresh squeezed juice is out of this world.
Bonus* If you stay in the loft style suite, your alarm clock is the smell of fresh Panamanian coffee brewing at 8am!
The owners.
I could write a book about these two. They live onsite and have dedicated their lives to this place and it shows. When you stay here, you are family, not only to them and Casco, but to Panama. They introduced my partner and me to the Panama everyone should see. They know everyone and spend their days making sure you get to see and do all the things you wanted, and the things you didn't know existed. They love their business, but they love people more. Half of my enjoyment was getting to know them. Needless to say, we will be keeping in touch.
And for those of you who may like space and to do your own thing, don't worry, they are great at arranging transportation and leaving it at that too!
All in all, they've won my business and my heart. We will not be staying anywhere else and are already planning our next stay!

I didn't think the owners of Casa Sucre could make it any better but they did. This is my 3rd visit to this ideally located boutique hotel and my first since they opened their cafe. While I loved the home cooked breakfast serve they used to serve every morning, the coffee and food in their cafe are incredible. They coffee is from a small local grower and the bagels are as great as any in NY. As you would expect, the service is great and the owners are hands on. In addition to great food and friendly service, it's a great place to meet people visiting the area from all over the world. People come and hang out for hours. I miss it already.

This was a perfect location for site seeing in Casco Viejo. We were upgraded from a room to an apartment which was a very nice surprise and offered a quieter night of sleep. We enjoyed reading in the quiet courtyard that our apartment opened on to and offered a getaway from the hustle and bustle.

I didn’t stay at the hotel but ate at the coffee house.. Food was good with a large menu selection. Nice variety of drinks, from coffees, smoothies, teas, and specialty drinks.
The owner speaks perfect English.. The location is perfect. Right on the corner next to an ice cream shop.
Since their prices are so reasonable I will probably do the bed and breakfast next time I’m in Panama.

I would recommend the website cascoviejoorg for a review of some of the dinning establishments in Casco Vieo. There is a lot to choose from.
